Jhosta, I love what you have done with the globes. I have been trying to come up with something for the trailer at the lake for lighting and I think that this might be just the ticket. could change out the colors for the different holidays. Most important is that we are only there on weekends etc. so if someone decided to "borrow" them it wouldn't be the end of the world :) Thanks for sharing your neat idea. Ellen

I especially like the one that has the globe sitting on a vase, so that the whole sculpture lights up. Very cool! Got to add that to my To-Do list.

I love this idea! I would really like to do something like that around the garden.....but, these days it seems that's as far as it goes...just the idea. :>(

Very cool idea! I have seen those globe lights at plenty of places and never thought to do that with them. I wonder how they would work with the battery powered fake candles too. I'll have to try that on my balcony since we don't have a plug out there. I really like the flowered green globe, that is very pretty!

i didn't have the red or blue lights. i have to remember to buy them at Christmas time so i can have those over the 4th of july.
there are alot of old glass lamps you can use for the globes .i picked up the green one thinking i would make another garden gal with it but it works better this way.
for over a year i was buying them at 2nd hand stores to find just the right size and style for the kitchen remodel. then i went to hanging tiffany style and did not need them. this year i am doing a clean out and anything that does not get used is out of here.that is why they will go in the garden.j

I did one of these kinda like yours after a horrible accident with a LARGE gazing ball hit by a rock thrown from my lawn mower. I loving garden stuff had kept the base of the gazing ball when this happened a couple of years ago; I guess thinking of buying a new one. Well never did of course. some time after this happend my grandmother passed away and I got one of her old globe style lights that hung by a chain on her back porch well the light had a short so I took the globe off and wired it with a small watt bulb like that goes inside one of those Christmas village houses and make myself a lighted gazing ball for my yard I just love it and chereish it very much as it was something from my GM and I dont have many things of hers. I know she is looking down at night and loving it too.

Oh I forgot to ask how did you get the star shaped holes punched into the paint can. I wanted to try this for and outside party an few months ago and was told by a friend to freeze water in coffe cans and then i could punch the holes but when I tried it just dented the cans and so the Idea was trashed

the paint can i used is plastic.i used my drill to make the holes.took about 10 min.
the can washed up really well.better than the metal ones.dh kept kicking into them on my side of the garage and cussed them so i figured i better use them or lose them.
i didn't do anything to it just drew the shape then drilled the holes.

Solar power lights look great in glass globes too. I have several sets of solar string lights that have firefly attachments on them, they blink on and off like a firefly would:-) For some of the glass globes I removed the fireflies and inserted the string of lights in the globes.

I also used hanging lanterns that are made to hold candles. They look so nice out by the pond and not using electricity is another bonus!
