CAKE-FORMS MAKE YOUR OWN

From a clipping from Women Home Companion September 1954

(2002 note: I donÂt know why the sides of cereal boxes couldnÂt be used as the forming boards. If nexessary two could be stapled together for added strength)

A pan in he shape of a bird was used as the example. there was also a picture of shapes drawn on squares that equaled 2 inches. Simple shapes like a big clown or heart or flower etc. could first be drwan on graph paper to get the dimensions right.

then it is just a matter of cutting the strips and covering with foil.

All you need is a sheet of 3-ply white Bristol board, pencil, ruler, scissors, stapler and some heavy-duty or freezer-weight aluminum foil 18" wide. In handling the foil be sure not to allow even tiny holes or tears. Test by holding to light before adding batter.

1,Mark lines off on strips of white Bristol Board (20X2 1/4") for the folds. Score with scissors then bend to shape and staple strips together.

2. Now cut strips of heavy-duty or freezer foil 6 inches wide; fold around the cardboard strip, folding over on the outside. Smooth inner surface carefully as you go.

3. Place form on square of foil: turn it up around sides with care to avoid tearing at corners; pinch in at bottom. Trim foil so that only 1/4 inch is turned to inside.

4. Before greasing and pouring in batter, put form onto cookie sheet; fill only 1/3 full. When baked, slide from sheet. Cool before loosening sides from cake.
