A lawyer asked for a delay in a trial in civil court which was to begin the 4th.

Reason: He had tickets to the Bama game.

Judge was on tv, and said because the lawyer was so honest he granted the delay.

Asking the wrong person, I wouldn't pay 5 cents to see a football game, so no. lol.

You would have to pay me that much to get me to go. Me and crowds... not a good time.

No way would I pay $6,700, but if I really wanted to go see a certain event (a football game would likely not qualify!), I'd pay quite a bit, maybe $2000 or $3000. Disclaimer, I don't have any kids and I am a pretty good saver, so while I consider this a good amount of money (meaning I'm not loaded!), I could swing it without suffering too much.

and that isn't a cheap area to stay in either. you have to take a cab, car, or bus to get down to the stadium. at least the seats are better than the the last time i went to a game there...(they were bench style, gross!)

that field isn't going to be in the greatest shape...

the oregon ducks and ohio state play the rose bowl on the first (same price for tickets) at least you get a parade of a life time before, and that's free unless you get grandstand seats...

Maybe to see the Yankees play in a World Series game but never football. (But I don't have that kind of money anyway.)

Probably not, but maybe. Depends on the situation.

Not me, but my neighbors spent thousands and thousands of bucks to fly them all (9 or 10) to the Rose Bowl a couple of years ago. And they bought box seats. Big Longhorns fans. Clearly I live in the low-rent district of the neighborhood, LOL.

I wouldn't ever spend that kind of money on any sporting event.

I was thinking to say, "Not in a million years", but then ...

... with the country carrying such a huge debt ... and having racked up such a heavy deficit, this year, and bailing out some companies, with the prospect of maybe bailing out some more ...

... plus printing a lot more of that money so fast ...

... inflation in the not too distant future is a great possibility.

I remember having a discussion with an old retired doctor doing work with TB, which was prevalent in Korea in the mid '50s, with him claiming that inflation was, to a large extent, government theft ... and I gave him an argument in those days, but I'd be much less vociferous, now.

Many governments owe large amounts of money. If they allow inflation to get going, they can pay off those debts with dollars that have become a great deal cheaper.

My first year's income, in 1953, was $1,900. ... so there's been quite a bit of inflation, since then!

So, in a few years, maybe $700. or $6,700. won't be a "large" sum.

But in the current situation ... no way would I pay even a quarter of the smaller amount for a sporting event ... that's over in, what, a couple of hours?

That I can watch on TV for peanuts ... small set at home, or, if I want a larger picture ... at a sports' bar?

Suppose I ask you for a prayer along this line, "Lord, would you please give us an indication of the appropriateness/(legitimacy?) of ole joyful using $500. of his/your money to attend a sporting event".

That said, that system as outlined is more or less a general guideline ... which I often disregard, when it suits me. For example, if I were to be consistent, the world's, national and local needs being such as they are, I'd donate most, or even pretty well all, of my assets to help alleviate some of those needs ... which I have been, thus far, choosing not to do: who knows what needs I may have, ere I depart this part of God's kingdom?

Never! That's the price I've paid for some of my used cars, and I'd rather have the car.

Now why would I do that when I can pour myself a nice glass of wine,make my favorite snacks, light the fire, get in my 'comfies', curl up in my chair with my fur blankie an watch it on my big screen TV?

I don't have to wait in line to get a refill either.

Good Lord, NO!!!!!! The adoration of sports in todays world just baffles me. Here in Minnesota, hospital care is being cut for the poor, number of police sre being cut, there isn't enough room at the shelters for the homeless and still the billionaire owner of the Vikings is still asking for people to build him a new stadium for his pampered, egotistical, often lawless and ignorant, not to mention WAY over paid, ball jockies to play their game. No way the average person who would end up paying for this debacle, couldn't afford to go to any of the games. Where are the values of this country? Dottie

Funny you should mention World Series tickets and the Yankees. We have Yankee season tickets (DH has had them for almost 30 years) and every year we sell about 50% of our seat tickets to re-coup the cost of what we pay. Having season tickets gives us the advantage of getting tickets to the World Series if they make it through. This year we got WS tickets for game 6, which was the winning game...whooppee! We sold those tickets for mucho $$$ and friends told us we were crazy to sell the tickets, that we should go to game 6. DH told them we would be crazy not to sell the tickets at the price we were getting.

My husband and I went to the national championship game several years ago and the tickets were maybe $200 each, but DH was a booster (or whatever they are called, the people who pay a small amount to support the team, that cost maybe $150). We don't have the money to spend thousands on a ticket, but if I had the money I would do it if it would make DH happy. Money is to spend (within reason, within your means), there are no pockets in a shroud. You can't take it with you (etc.).

Honestly if I had it...I would.....but I won't every have to worry about having it...

i'd spend double that $6700. to see a chicago cubs world series game and i'd pay it per game! of course i grew up going to games as did my father and neither of us has had the opportunity to get to spend that much on a cubs world series ticket :-( i might spend $500-700 to see certain concerts once my dh is done w/ his MS degree. i believe in buying an experience and having that memory forever...~ liz

If I were in a position to do so and it was the Steelers in the Super Bowl I would!

It never fails to amaze me, we have sold a few of the Penn State packages this year, we usually do. But when the Steelers qualify for the Super Bowl (which tey won't this year!) I know that we will be booking packages. Last year we sent about dozen people....cost was over $12,000 per couple...PLUS airfare.

I wouldn't cross the street for a free ticket!

Haven't been to a college football game in forever, but if I had a free ticket, I would go in a heartbeat!

Especially to the Alabama game in Pasadena vs the little known Texas team. Yes indeedie :o)
