done, done, done, i am so excited!

I have had a CRAZY couple of weeks. Here is everything that has gone one:

1. Had a manuscript accepted for publication (it is the one that some of the KT kids and parents took part in)

2. Publicly defended my dissertation

3. Got sick with some stomach thing

4. Ended up at the ER getting IV fluids(puked more last week than I have in the last 38 years combined!)

5. Made all of the modifications to my dissertation that my committee wanted

6. Picked up some sort of cold/sore throat thing (probably from the lady that was coughing all over CVS when I was trying to find something for my stomach last weekend)

and, finally......

GRADUATED with my PhD. I don't actually walk until May- that is the "big ceremony" but I am done with school!

Me too on the skeeters. Will they never go away?? You might try a few drops of lavender oil in an unscented oil base, like mineral oil. It's funny, this works for some, not for others. Not for me and lavender oil is pricey. I gave some of the mixture to a friend and it works for her but not her partner. Weird but she bought the lavender oil from me. I have a small amt left if you would like to try it before investing. email me and I'll send it to you.

I've done such things a million times, Mike... it's depressing, to be sure... but it happens to the most careful of people. On the good side, they're beautiful flowers, and all the plant's energy will now go toward the second spike of blooms, if that makes you feel any better. I know how bad it feels... but I bet I'm way more clumsy than you'll ever be! Can you fall UP stairs? I can! Have you ever fallen INTO a car? I have! The old man says, "expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed!" He means it rather jokingly, but it does hold a bit of truth.

One+ year later update! Ok, so here's the scoop on TWP and the arbor that I used/built - still holding up pretty well. Color has faded a bit, but I can't tell if it is the wood changing color or the light stain fading. Regardless, still looks nice. Though now, I am starting to see, what I call "pollution" streaks from the very top of the (the flat part exposed to sky) of the 2x2's covering the whole structure. it's probably the tanins that are leeching out and "dripping" down on the upper struts of the arbor. But, in a way, it's not too bad - in fact it's lending a slightly weathered look. Will need to keep an eye on this though. Anyway, the stain is still beading though which is great. in fact when it rains the wood takes on a darker hue. Wood is holding up just fantastic. no splits, minimal shrinkage around base of posts, and smooth as my 4 yo's butt! Sorry about that! he's running around here nekkid! Routed sides of posts have saved many split heads on our kids...plust the base of the posts have helped them not to run near them. though they love to stand on the bases. Installed lights up in cavities of the trellis and have crated a really cool effect onto concrete and wood accenting. I'll post some pics. Oh and money grew on some of my trees so I get to start my outdoor kitchen! Whoo Hoo! Will have matching arbor over top of that too! just wanted to give you all an update. I see some many forums and the threads just seem to stop with no updates...

Ah francy, francy.....that's mighty fancy! LOL. I leave the computer for a while and come back and lord love me you finished your apron! I LOVE your pictures....seeing the project makes this forum so much fun. Your sewing area looks very very familar...like my own... threads and "snippits" all over the table, across the floor to the ironing board and back, never mind those I wear on my clothing when I sew. This apron makes me think you should grab some of those scraps, tie them loosely in your hair with a big knot to the front, don that apron and be standing at your lovely stove banging a wooden spoon in a pot when DH arrives home tonight....You could be standing there ala Lucy....saying things like "Now look Ethel, Ricky won't believe me for a minute it took all day to make this thing..... and no housework done. I've got some serious 'splaining to do!"...... If I lived closer I could be your friend Ethel....what a duo we'd make! Now apron one is done.....get on with your "cherry" project! No wait, first go and BUY MORE fabric......only look at the price this time. Budster.

I feel like a proud grandma (or at least a proud mama) hearing about your accomplishments.
So what are your plans.......teaching, doing or both? Are you going to stay in the same area?

The degree is in Public Health Sciences-Social Behavioral Track.

We are hoping to stay in WV forever! Eric and I both love it here.
Last August I was hired as a research manager for a teen pregnancy prevention study that should last until August 2015 so we should be set until then.

I would like to get a faculty researcher position at WVU eventually.

Bigack, we celebrated by eating at the Wonder Bar in Clarksburg. Have you ever eaten there- their steaks are unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!! Melt like butter in your mouth. I had to try very hard not to lick my plate, lol.

Now to take another dose on NyQuil and curl up on the couch.

Congratulations on a job well done, Dr. Janie.

(Even resulting from using some of the local characters as guinea pigs).

With them saying these days that with our diet and lifestyle being such as it has become, with so many juveniles tending currently to obesity and diabetes, and likely to suffer from them later, and that possibly the long average lifespan that we've achieved may reverse, with a substantial number dying younger in a few years, it sounds as though your specialty may be needed in those years.

I hope that, along with our continuing emphasis on curing people's ills, we may become more concerned with building a lifestyle that will forestall many of those illnesses in the first place.

I hope that you find a position where you can be of good service to the community and find much satisfaction while doing so.

Good wishes to you and Eric as you step into the next phase of your life.
