I would be lost without my vacuum, but I have pets, firewood, mud, dust from a dirt road, you name it. Perhaps you don't bring in anything vacuumable? :-)

My house is almost all wood. The kitchen is vinyl. I do have large area rugs, so I do use my vacuum on those. I like to use the wand on the vacuum to suck up the dust along the baseboards and corners too - I live in the country, so lots of dust.

I use my regular swiffer with the dry cloths, and I also use a damp microfiber cloth in it to wash my floors. Don't need to spend lots of $$ on cleaning products either. I use ammonia and water on the vinyl and Pledge wood floor shine on the wood floors (never squirt anything directly on your wood - squirt it on the microfiber cloth on the swiffer and don't let the swiffer/cloth set on the floor when you are done or it will leave marks.

If you want shiny wood floors, make sure you get the "shine" stuff, not the wood floor "cleaner"

I use my canister vac on the tile kitchen floor and all the area rugs. I also use it for the baseboards. I vacuum the wood floors as well, but to really get them clean I dust them. I use a swiffer sweeper but instead of using the disposable cloths, I use a microfiber cloth. Sometimes I spray it with Endust, but you have to be careful not to make the floor slippery with that.

The swiffer cloths work well but I seem ti have to use so many of them and they are expensive, IMO.

I recently bought a steam cleaner for all the floors. It was kind of an impulse purchase, so we'll see how that goes.

Don't get rid of that vac!

You'll use it nearly every day. I have bamboo floors and couldn't live without the level of suction I get with my standard floor vac - it gets dog hair AND sand up.

We use the Bona system. Just Google it.

Are you able to turn the brushes off? When you vacuum wood, tile or vinyl most manufacturers recommend turning the roller brush off and just using the suction. Obviously when you vacuum rugs you will need to use the beater brush.

I use both on the floor. I know at my daughter's, I use a broom sometimes and a vacuum broom other times as the kids track in sand from the sandbox and mud from the garden too.

I use an electric "broom" floor sweeper as well as a Swiffer mop. If the floor is a mess from bits of things, I prefer the sweeper. It it is just dusty and linty, I use the Swiffer.

Yes, you set it to 'bare floors' and the brushes disengage.

I use my vacuum daily as well. The drapes, furniture, walls, louvered doors......

My previous and current house are laminate and tile floors. I use an electric broom regularly. Whenever they need it, I clean both surfaces with Murphy Oil Soap Squirt and Mop. No rinsing necessary. My next house will also be totally carpetless, even if that means tearing it out and putting down laminate.

Amen, Drew! I couldn't have carpet if I wanted it - the yard is basically all sand and I have two dogs and two Grandkids - sometimes I have to clean the floors a couple of times a day - T.G. for hardwood floors and tile, especially in the South! Also, T.G. for wood floor repair cleaners - takes care of the inevitable scratches on the hardwood.

I hate dragging out my vacuum and usually only spot clean and sweep my wood foods. Check into cleaning recommendations for your floor type. I think you may be amazed by the recommendation of not using any water or cleaners on many of them.

I generally sweep, but use the vacuum occasionally -- like before company to get by the baseboards, clean out the couches, do the lamp shades, etc. If you live by youself and don't have any pets (or sand), I would think you wouldn't use it a lot or wouldn't need to.

When I clean my wood floors I use Bona system, love it. To clean up daily I use a cordless Eureka sweeper. It's wonderful, under 25.00 and no cord to mess with while using. I find, since I got it, that I use it for small jobs on area rugs, kitchen and den floors, around fireplace etc.
One year I gave them to all the men in the family. They laughed and then later told me they use them every day. The cordless has two settings, floors and carpets.

I have all hard floors downstairs and capetting only in bedrooms. It stays pretty clean. everey morning I sweep then Swiffer wet jet my kitchen, where I have linoleum tiles. Bona is great on wood floors-thery make both floor cleaner and shiner products. I vacuum upstairs once a week. Spot clean as I go.

Yes - Bona is the cleaner I use on my floors - couldn't recall the name and too lazy to go look! LOL!

I use Norwex. It is a microfiber with silver woven in. No cleaning supplies needed, just water. Very comfortable mop handle and head. Super easy - I can almost run through the house and get it done in no time.

Expensive though.
