That sounds like fun, Lydia. However you decide to do it be sure to put a time limit on how long someone has to answer (like Jeopardy). I don't know how many people will be at each event, but if you have 10-12 at each, you could get several people that answer at the same time.

I think it sounds like fun! Make sure that younger people will be able to answer some of the questions.

Sounds like fun, but you will probably have more than one calling out the answer each time. How about giving each person a pencil and paper and let them write down their answers. This is a fun way, because it will involve peeking at other's papers, etc.

Also if you need another game I have a Christmas songs game we have played, but it involves giving each player a copy. Don't know when your partys will be, but I could send you one and you can make copies, if you would like.

I think that sounds fun, but I would have a ladder system, where the fastest correct answer moves the player to the next round. For example, start with 2 players, ask a question. The "winner" gets a peppermint and moves to the next round. Repeat with the next two players, and so on. As the rounds continue, make the questions harder. The top two players will compete against each other, by answering 2 of 3 (difficult) questions and that person will be the overall winner.

This would eliminate the issue of having 20 people scream out an answer at the same time and you having to decide who was first. It will also give people who do not wish to participate in question answering a way to contribute (by reading the questions, being a "judge", handing out candies), etc.

Part of it is whether you want it as a competition, which can be problematic, or just plain fun. So what it there's a tie? Give them both a candy! You could have them raise their hands I guess if you wanted. Better yet, ring a (sleigh) bell, snap their fingers, say Ho-Ho-Ho or Merry Christmas or something, clap their hands, turn on a flashlight, kiss their partner or whatever the indicator would be. Could be something different for each too.

We do trivia things often. And have questions that only the kids are allowed to answer unless they don't know them. Harry Potter, popular movies, cartoons, etc are great for the younger and they feel involved too.

I wouldn't put a time limit on it except for when you end the game, then give the answers and enjoy watching people dope-slap themselves! Sometimes people help each other - it was that guy on whatever show that had the blank car, bla bla bla, and reminds someone and leads up to an answer.

The candy part is usually more fun since many people can't resist... especially with a Christmas bell chocolate, a Hershey Kiss or something that would go quickly. Even a small Christmas cookie? The ones that answered the most would "win" because they got more candy, but there could be another prize of some sort too.

Some like to go one step further, though I've never done it. They give a wrong answer prize too. A Hershey Kiss for a right answer, a mini carrot for an incorrect one, or a slice of beet, celery, turnip, raw potato or whatever. Part of the idea here is to get everyone involved, right or wrong and it promotes conversation and a lot of humor. Which was the heaviest reindeer? My mother-in-law! You know some of the obvious ones but some can be creative. Even a creativity prize for best laugh or something, give an extra candy for a "good answer" or a good try. Just have fun with it.

You could even keep a few of the questions for a "lightning round" where 2-3 go head to head.

Thanks for the responses everyone! You've given me some very good ideas to consider. The 'kids' are all in their late teens and up... so they won't need easier questions. I found a set of very hard trivia questions for a tie-breaker at the end. There should only be 8 players at the first house and maybe 10 at the second.

Cynic, I don't want to post them in case one of the 'players' happens to stumble into the KT. I'll post them after Christmas if anyone is still interested.

I did something similar at a party last year, but it wasn't a competition. The one who guessed had the satisfaction of beating the others. But my one suggestion is to have someone else besides yourself being the judge. You're going to hear, "BUT I SAID THAT!" a lot, lol.
