Westboro gang to picket Edwards funeral

This is beyond insane. Free speech be damned. They HAVE to be violating some law. Free speech doesn't allow me to shout FIRE in a crowded building. What did Elizabeth ever do to warrant this? For that matter what did anyone especially our soldiers do? These "Christians" are the most despicable people on earth.

They need to be rounded up and done away with.

Despicable is too kind for these "things"! What
on earth has happened to people?

Hopefully someone will protect the people attending the funeral.
Just a thought on this church? Wonder what would happen if everyone started a prayer chain for them from all over the world.? What saddens me is seeing the young children holding up signs Some quite young. I strongly disagree on what they are doing, but do not want to get kicked off this forum.

By the way, if you do go their website, you will get a WOT red warning the site is dangerous on the computer--don't know why--I never got into the site.

The Patriot Guard is usually there when the solders are being buried. I don't know if they will be at hers. They stand between them and the mourners. I think that family ranks right up there with Hitler and his gang.

Those people are a waste of skin and oxygen. I do hope they are kept at a distance.

I don't know anything about the Westboro gang and I'm sure not going to try their website, but I agree with everything lily316 said. Please let the poor woman rest in peace.

Just what would their purpose be in picketing at the Edwards funeral?

thought they were supposed to be in my part of the woods down at wayne state university...how can they afford to travel so much?

One of their women who is somehow a spokesperson was on KOMO 4 news radio today. She said they are picketing because : Elisabeth spurned God when her son was killed, and she also said Elisabeth Edwaeds was refusing to pray to God when she had cancer. She refused to humble herself before God and that is why she died and they are going to be at the funeral. Now just where did they get this information and since when do they speak for God? This idiot was saying she speaks for God because she reads the Bible..

This is so sad. According to the news, Elizabeth said she wasn't afraid to die because she knew she would be with her son again. I think they need to read her books before they start judging her. And if I remember right, judging others is wrong.

What is their purpose to picket any funeral, and especially the soldiers who are over there fighting to save their dumb A**es and their freedoms.

I say round them all up and send them over to afghanistan to the Helmland province, then send our good guys back home.

They're total jerks and i hope the police etc can keep them away from elizabeths funeral.

    This just infuriates me!!!

those idiots are lucky they have never found themselves at our funeral home! we own the sidewalk, parking spaces, street portion in front and parking lot across the street and not to mention own the city machine so they would be going to jail, d@mned free speech LOL. there is nothing that can overcome this city machine complete w/ judges up to the state level :-) when they first started they were at a funeral in our area once and my dad welcomed the opportunity to get to strong arm them into some respect for the family for the deceased. ~ liz

So called Christians run around all over the place including the internet claiming to be "His Followers" and they lie and cause problems for others around them but these people are not true Christians. You don't have to be told time and time again that someone is or isn't a Christian. That they are evil or don't worship or honor God. Those of my friends who are real Christians don't pound their chests or interrupt funerals or meetings yelling about their beliefs. They are those who just quietly go about their business doing his work and worshiping in their own way and honoring God true to their own beliefs.

These people are not Christian......They are part of the devil's brigade...I suspect they will cause themselves more harm than good with this one...

So sad. The hurt they cause so many families on one of the saddest days in their lives is so wrong. I don't see how they can call themselves Christians when they cause others so much pain. Christians I know would never do this to anyone..

"This idiot was saying she speaks for God because she reads the Bible.." Uh...so does the Devil!!!

I agree with Ruthie and others. These people are NOT what they claim to be!

Some one will kill him some day. I don't know why it hasn't happened already. They arrested a vet here who had been stalking him. The vet was injured in the war and had his legs amputated. I guess it is hard for him to hear the church say things like that. Money is pouring in all over to help with his legal fees.

I agree with you, Country Bumpkin. Just because these people call themselves "Christians" doesn't mean they are. You know, that man and his group remind me of Jim Jones and his followers who drank the poisoned koolaid. A group of people just following him around, doing everything he says to do and believing everything he says. It's sick, twisted and evil.

    Shoot on sight.

I think what they want is publicity. This group was at my daughter's college a couple of years ago because a student housing unit burned and several students died. This group came to their college, chanted their hatred and left. They must have filed some type of protest application with the college because the student body received an email saying it was their right to protest and they advised the students not to have any contact with the low life and not to engage in any type of violence. Many students started their own protest. Apparantly, the Westboro gang gets their money from lawsuits against people that give it back to them.

I think that as hard as it is, you need to just let them do their thing. They'll run out of money soon enough. But if people fight back, they get their money to keep spewing their filth.

This is from their website. Words fail me..

The group announced on its website that it will picket Edwardss funeral for an hour-and-a-half on Saturday.

"WBC will picket a respectful distance from the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards who split hell wide open on December 7, 2010," the group says on its website. "This witch spent her life in defiance and disobedience to God, and blasphemed Him with her dying breath. She received multiple warnings and opportunties to repent. After God smacked her by killing her son, she thought shed show Him, pumping herself full of hormones to have more kids. God gave her two more children, and she despised them like she did the first two, raising them to believe God is a liar."

"Our message is for the living," the group adds, "do not live like Elizabeth Edwards or you will die like her and spend eternity in Hell where the worm never dies and the fire is never quenched."

These asses are right down in the gutter with the drag queen idiots who invaded a Catholic church in California a couple years ago. Let them come to my town and my church and try their sh!t. Everyone has to answer for what they do and don't do in this lifetime.

IMHO, the Westboro gang is not a true Christian Group. Just because one calls themselves Christian, does not make it so. I can say I am a singer because I love to sing, but that doesn't make me a singer. Going to church doesn't make someone a Christian neither, no more than going to McDonalds makes one a french fry.

There are many people in this world, on and off the internet that will quietly bait others and create stumbling blocks to those that really do try to keep a close personal relationship with the Lord. Then they back away into the shadows and allow others to ravage the carcass like vultures hungry for blood.. These are of the Westboro Gang ilk.. Bullys in every sense of the word... Many of who never set foot inside a church except for weddings, funeral, and of course Christmas and Easter.. and many have never shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with another lost soul... The Westboro gang have their own 'church' and most of the members are related blood kin or married into the family.. They can call themselves anything they like, but unless they themselves repent for their heinous acts... well, we all know where their eternal life will be. Right their with the other self righteous bullies of this world.. and they are ... "of the world"..

Carol Wimmer summed it up nicely when she said:

    "When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I am saved"
    I'm whispering "I get lost!"
"That is why I chose this way."

    When I say..."I am a Christian"
don't speak of this with pride.
    I'm confessing that I stumble
and need someone to be my guide.

    When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
    I'm professing that I'm weak
and pray for strength to carry on.

    When I say..."I am a Christian"
    I'm not bragging of success.
    I'm admitting I have failed
and cannot ever pay the debt.

    When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
    my flaws are too visible
but God believes I'm worth it.

    When I say..."I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartaches
which is why I seek His name.

    When I say..."I am a Christian"
I do not wish to judge.
    I have no authority.
    I only know I'm loved.

So they stuff they said about Elizabeth...so obviously "out there." They may as well have said "elizabeth had a blue head." It doesn't even get a second thought, with me. Babbling, mentally ill folk. Nothing more.

This family church makes millions by suing entities (city/county/state governments, private entities, etc) for "freedom of speech" issues" and have been awarded millions of dollars over the years. Several of Phelps' children are lawyers, and they know all the rules and how to provoke others into breaking the law, instead of them. And they sue and they collect.

All in the name of god, of course.

When I heard about this today, I was so tempted to call the church and ask them how they got so much hatred in their hearts. They certainly are not Christians.

I don't know diddly about this group and frankly don't really want to know much more than what I looked up when this topic came before me. Many churches are nothing more than attention-seeking cults. Religion is an interesting thing to a curious person such as myself.

People kill, in the name of religion. Yet they usually preach to not kill.

People force their religion onto others, yet preach to not so do.

Religion is modified for the times, convenience and otherwise. (One day it's a sin to eat meat, then all of a sudden, have a burger.)

More often than not I see truly religious people as quiet types. It's the people who feel a need to shout PRAISE THE LORD, HALLELUJAH and otherwise often are simply seeking publicity and attention and in my experience usually are insecure in their own religious beliefs.

And while the PTL shouters also allegedly preach live & let live, they're often the first to be suspicious if someone should shout PRAISE ALLAH!

A small minority of Muslims are terrorists in the name of their religion. A small minority of Christians are equally terroristic in the name of their religion.

This isn't really any different than the blowhard who threatened the Koran burning. Or is it the same one? If not, same type. He still won. He got the attention sought, raised funds and attention for the cause, not unlike this group or many others.

Misquoting the Bible, the Koran or any other "good book" is common practice in the religious zealots and runs the gamut from the terrorist to the holy rollers. Quote to achieve your point, interpret it as you can to make it fit your position and justify it as "it's in the _____ (book)". Curiously they lose sight of how many times these books have been re-written, nor do many even know who wrote them.

To me there's two things that are wrong at a funeral.
    1) Protesting. What's it accomplish other than satisfy a need for notoriety? However, equally as wrong is
    2) To make someone out to be something they weren't. If Hitler were being buried today, many would be chanting about his loving family and he was a "human being", bla bla bla. I don't think you need to attack a person in the box, but it *is* totally un-Christian to sit and lie and glorify them too just because they're dead. (And before a couple of you go off the deep end, I'm not addressing this toward Elizabeth Edwards! Sheesh!)

The sad fact is that they won, without firing a shot so to speak. They seek attention and are getting it from all the newspapers, TV/radio stations, websites and even commentaries in forums, blogs and so forth. And to top it off, taxpayers pay for their actions! Their church pays zippo in taxes right? Victory #2.

The case that went to the Supreme Court happened around here. The father of a dead solder sued and was awarded money but it was overturned. This despicable gang screamed God hates faggots at the funeral of his son. The father was distraught.

This is theater, not religion, and theater that people want to watch, at that. I'll bet the people in that church love to Google themselves and see how many people are talking about them. And I'm sure the leaders laugh when they're able to goad people into a reaction, especially when they're able to make some money off of it.

*Of course* these people aren't Christians. They're entrepreneurs. They make money off promoting anger.

The Westboro website quote left utterly speechless and sad.

This group was in our area last summer. They chose to picket two schools in the area. Not sure what is issue they pulled out of thin air to protest. All the school officials ask the students not to engage them in conversation, to ignore them or wave and smile as they passed. Must have worked, they left this area very shortly. Next stop was a college, and they found what they love. The college students wanted to take issue with them and the entire campus was shut down for the entire day. Even a group of church folks from the town came on campus to argue the issues with them. The police had to be called on the campus when things got very heated. Guess they were ready for a big fight after leaving our area and not causing any commotion. Most times they are not on the school grounds, but this college allowed them to come on the grounds.

It will be interesting when they try to enter the Pearly Gates. In my opinion, being a christian, is trying to be Christ-like. Christ would NEVER behave like these people. He was so full of Love and Compassion. Not full of hatred and a mean spirit, like this group. JMO

this is the first I've heard of this and I can only think how sad it is to see people that are so ignorant and, actually, just stupid. Why am I not suprised? What a sorry excuse for humanity. I understood Eliz. was comforted by thinking she'd be reunited w/ her son. That doesn't sound like anyone who is leading a misspent life. I would hope maybe these people won't receive much media attention, b/c that is one of their reasons for acting in such a dispicable manner.

Patti43 said...So sad. The hurt they cause so many families on one of the saddest days in their lives is so wrong. I don't see how they can call themselves Christians when they cause others so much pain. Christians I know would never do this to anyone..

I totally agree and I totally agree with those that said this is not a religion, it's a performance theatre. I agree with free speech, but this is just vile hate. I can't for the life of me understand what their point is? Do they really believe the hatred coming out of their mouths? Do they think they can convert people to come to their side?? Blows my mind. Why would you want to hurt people like that? I am also scared at the very young people I often see holding signs, screaming things. I shudder to think what they will grow up to be one day.

country sunshine-that is a lovely poem. I would like to say I will pray for these people, but really I'm so angry with them-hard to be compassionate.

Similar to the protests at veterans that read "Thank GOd for IED/war" etc, I heard their signs at Elizabeth's funeral will read "Thank God for Breast Cancer"...pathetic.

Ken, thanks for expressing some of my thoughts on this topic...you do it so well. :)

Theresava ~ I know it is difficult to pray for folks that don't seem to have a soul, but those are the ones that need it the most.

IMHO this is a hate group / cult that is hiding behind the title of church. The only way that they will get past those pearly gates is to fall on their face before God and confess all these horrible things they are doing and at least make an attempt to be more Christ like. Christians are not perfect (as some folks seem to think we should be), but at least we try to be... and these people are not even trying..
