and see if you just look at them...their no calories!! LOL...I made the Buckeye's to give to friends and the Divinity is for my brother...His 70th birthday is Wednesday and he loved my mom's divinity!

The Buckeye's are sooo good...but boy are they time consuming to make...it takes about 3 hours to make it up and roll them out...I put them in the frig overnight cause they set up better when you dip them in the hot chocolate!

I made about 5 or 6 pieces of the divinty without nuts so I could enjoy my cooking...The rest is loaded with crushed pecans...a sure way for me to get diverticulitis!

they are very pretty. I don't like divinity...but they are pretty! LOL
but what are buckeyes???????????? they LOOK good enough to eat! lol

Well I got my pacakge today and it was an avacado seedling. Hum....If I didn't figure out who my partner was from being a married male I sure know now...he he! An avacado.....I am sure that I will be the only one growing one of those in Wisconsin! My wife told me that it needs to grow up so we can make guacamole! I am sure she is going to have to wait because it is only a foot tall. I also recieved a bunch of herb seeds. I never buy dill but have always wanted to grow it because I love the smell and now I have the seeds. I also found a pillow stuffed with pine needles or rosemary or somthing that smells really good. I don't know what it is for exactly but I think it will make my socks smell good if I put it in my sock drawer! LOL I also see some copper tags in my box. Did I mention that I LOVE copper! I have been looking to by a shut off valve for my sprinkler hose so I can just shut it off at the hose and not at the house. Thank you gardening buddy ........who ever you may be! I will have a lot of fun watching your avacado grow!

HI Mark! Na I planted 6 large and medium size varieties and the grandsons and daughter mixes them all up when picked. I'll list the varieties here. 1. Beefmaster (large variety)80 day Indeterminant 2. Better Boy (large variety)75 day Indeterminant 3. Celerbrity (medium-large variety)72 day determinant 4. Moreton Hybrid F1 (small-medium variety)70 day indeterminant (Harris Seed Co exclusive) 5. Jet Star (small-medium variety) 75 day indeterminant (low acid?)(Harris Seed Co.) 6. Supersonic (medium size)78 day indeterminant (Harris Seed Co.) All these tomatoes are similar in taste and texture when grown in the soil where I live. Its a clay base heavy soil. I use peat moss and worm castings as soil amendiments. No chemicals. I water with treated Lake Onterio Water and of course rain. I have had no disease problems to speak of and am luckey so far. Choose your favorite BBQ sauce, slather it on and then grill it. I do cut down the bacon to it's a small sliver so that it gets cooked enough. Nothing hard here. I make several different kinds of sauce, so whatever is leftover gets put on it. Not much help, am I? Here's one I use for chicken where you just plop it all in a bowl, smear over chicken and broil it. I bet it'd work great for this (even the broiling part). :) See the link for the whole chicken recipe. Paula Deen's Easy BBQ Sauce 3/4 cup ketchup 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar 3 tablespoons white wine vinegar 2 tablespoons minced onion 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard 1/4 to 1 teaspoon hot sauce, (recommended: Tabasco) 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 3 tablespoons chopped scallions (white and light green parts) 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly grated lime zest 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lime juice Lime wedges, for serving In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, onion, mustard, hot sauce, and black pepper. I didn't really find this cabinet (?); I built it 1989 when I was a single sergeant and had more apartment space than furniture funding. It sat against a wall in the center of my efficiency apartment. At the time I kept a swivel shelf on top of it to hold the TV; I could watch TV from the "bedroom" or "living room." I've always intended to build a hutch to go on top, just never got a round tuit. This photo was taken before we moved. Right now it's sitting out on the sunporch, buried in boxes and "stuff" waiting for the house to come together. There is one fixed shelf inside. I put a pull out basket on the left, top shelf to hold napkins and smaller linens.

Ya know Liz, Santa isn't going to come see you for being so mean like that lol. I had to settle for a candy cane, I'd much rather have the buckeyes and divinity.....you can send those to me to make up for it and I'll tell Santa you were good to me......see it all works.

Just kidding, and by the way those look wonderful I bet they taste great!!!!

No,no,no Liz, Nodakgal has a problem and can't have the divinity 'cause um well i'll think of something sooner or later but, she told me she really didn't want the divinity and that I could have it instead, so I'm sending my address to you and you can just toss her's to the side ;o) okay?!?

I am jealous! My mom had a microwave divinity recipe...that was in her recipe box...that got thrown out by accident after she died and we weren't happy. It was the only way she could make divinity. I love divinity...and I will take it with no nuts too. Yum Liz!!!

BTW, if you wash them down with beer, that will neutralize the calories so you don't have to worry.

Lands Sakes!! I cyber shared and ya'll got in a fight over my Buckeyes!! ya knows I love all of you bestest!!

Cynic...sorry too late...after spending two days in the kitchen with these things...Milk Choklit is what your getting...take it or leave it!! (and don't you dare wash them down with beer...you'll ruin the beer!) LOL!! Toni...since ND and Zipper are fighting over them...I'll just send them some coal...naughty naughty gals...you were sweet and can have all the cyber looking you want!!

They've been a hit at work...and since work is where I first discovered them some 25 years ago...I feel I'm paying it forward...A women came on my plane around Christmas and brought each of us a plate of them...I begged and pleaded and she sent me her recipe...Here it is: (I'm forever thankful she followed through and actually sent it!) This was way before the days of internet and recipes are at our fingertips!!

one pound of stick butter (I use margarine)
2 pounds of creamy peanut butter
2 pounds of sifted confectioners sugar
2 12 oz packages of semi sweet chocolate chips
l/4 bar paraffin

I melt the butter/margarine in the micro
mix it in the creamy peanut butter
sift in the confectioners sugar

after awhile you're gonna have to start kneading it like bread to get it mixed up...yes I put on rubber gloves for this...

After it holds consistency of a little rolled up ball...I put it in the frig for awhile to get chilled...maybe an hour or more

Roll it out into balls...I put them on foil covered cardboard...set in refrigerator overnight...It helps keep their shape when dipping into the hot chocolate mixture the next day!

The next day

melt the semi sweet chocolate pieces with the l/4 bar of paraffin..I use my little crockpot...I think it's the reason I first bought a crockpot was to make these things!

dip the peanut butter ball mixture with a toothpick in the chocolate shaking off excess chocolate (or not), leaving a small spot of peanut butter at the top! Sit them back onto the foil lined cardboard...Put them back in the frig to set...Store in ziploc bags...(I keep them in the frig till I'm ready to pass them on!!

Pris...I'm only guessing here but I think someone with a buckeye tree in their yard thought it would be fun to make something like the things laying in her/his yard...They look just like these...

ENJOY!! I know my co-workers, kids and neighbors are!!

The Divinity was a hit with my brother and arrived just in time for his birthday yesterday...I don't know how he ever got to be 70 years old cause we're only 16 years apart and I'm only 10!!

Kay...I think my mom's recipe is pretty easy peasy...I copied it down as she was making it and teaching me how...She never used a candy thermometer and would only make it on a day when it was low humidity...nor did she have the recipe written down anywhere...no way no how I could do that...I went immediately and bought a candy thermometer and it's really the only thing I use it for...but my divinity comes out everytime!

2 l/2 Cup Sugar
l/2 Cup light Corn Syrup (Karo)
2 egg whites
l/2 Cup Water
l/2 tsp salt
l tsp vanilla

In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, l/2 tsp salt and l/2 Cup Water...Cook to the hard ball stage stirring only till the sugar dissolves...(i take it off the burner right before it reaches the hard ball line on the candy thermometer...it stays softer longer...My mom just held up a spoonful and when dropping it back into the pan it would form a hair like stream...that's how she knew it was ready.

Meanwhile...

Beat egg whites to stiff peaks...(mom used a whisk and it took her forever...I use a mixer)

Gradually pour the sugar mixture over the egg whites beating at high speed with your mixer..Add Vanilla and continue mixing until candy holds a shape...usually 4-5 minutes...(or in my case till my mixer starts smoking...LOL)

Stir in crushed nuts...or not...I can't have nuts so I drop a few on waxed paper then add walnuts or peacans (a cup is plenty!)

Drop by tsp onto waxed paper...store in ziploc bag...
