My found cabinets....... add yours! Attn: Cabinet Queen aka YaYa

Here are 4 of the 5 cabinets I found at yard sales. The most expensive at $30. was the tall 2 piece one which I may one day paint white. The interior pink I painted is a little pepto-bismol in color, but it catches the eye! lol The curio now full of bears was still wrapped in the original factory plastic when I bought it for $25! Winston's favorite cabinet is a old phonograph cabinet, got that one for $15. .The little white hanging cabinet was a end of the day yard sale find for about $4.00. I almost didn't buy it because it had smudges of red paint on it when I found it. I was told it was probably a boy's shop project back in the 30's or 40's. It is my favorite now! (Below it is a little white cabinet I bought at Target.)

Let's see your found cabinets! I know Marilyn, Jaybird and a few others said they had some.

Maybe we'll do a "found table" thread next? I have several of those too!

Does this count as a cabinet? I found it at an antique store, although it's not an antique. It was painted red. I loved the lines and the price ($350), but not the color. The store owner agreed to paint it for me for only $25. I'm happy with it!

I already did one rant recently about historical "cheating." Or rather, faux historical interiors without living historically within them. That modern wine cooler next to the cabs painted in assorted milk paint colors on the Timeless website gave me the giggles. I agree that historical styles don't need to look pre-aged--after all, they were once fresh and new; it's time that has aged them and given that overlay of crust and definition in the crevices. I think that hiding a refrigerator behind a 19th or 18th century panel is just plain silly. I feel that these interiors are stage sets. I want to live in the real world. I've secretly hankered to live in an old house but probably never will. In my own kitchen planning, when I would get flashes of a way to incorporate historical style, I let the idea run its course in the theoretical plan and then abandoned it. The honest truth is that I'm glad to be living in my modern kitchen, a not-quite-spare room with few trims, and will not apologize for it. I've worked in enough historical kitchens at historic sites to have tried them pretty honestly. I love the separate pieces, the integrity of pieces collected to suit a period or a house, but the idea of stringing them together as banks of cabs in a modern kitchen is a Walt Disney idea. Yes I know Pennsylvania has a much older white settlement history and a lot more older homes than Minn. Nevertheless, I think that even in an old Penna house, my kitchen would be much closer to late 20th than 19th century in "feel." No lye preparation barrels, no dry sinks, not even a classic wood stove, although I have a more modern one in a nearby room. But...give me a few well chosen antiques to put out as counterpoint to the new stuff and I'm happy. Will I really mount a classic wooden hay fork in the new lobby? stay tuned...

Ninabarrowdesigns- We have 10' ceilings. We've been in our house for about 7 months, and I still can't believe how high up those top shelves in the upper cabinets are! Just a single not-stacked 42" cabinet works out just fine for us. We have a wetbar around the corner from our kitchen, and it has a soffit over the 42" cabinets. I like how it looks for the small area, but I'm very glad we didn't do any soffits in the kitchen. Good luck!

Hi Lydia, thanks for the ideas. I like the antique idea the best. The top has glass in front and it does have shelfs. The hardware on the doors are brass so if I polish them up hopefully they'll look good. All the boys (4) are gone now and I turned one of the bedrooms into my craft/painting room. They're going to flip when they come home to visit. Tee Hee. BUT, you know, I like the idea of showing off some of my collectables in it. HUMMMM. Decisions, decisions. I should be done painting it today. I'll post the finished project in a couple of days when it dries. Or should I say, when I decide where to put it.

I saw your post last night and thought "OMG big kitchen envy? No, she's gotta be kidding right?", but just incase, I'm not touching this one. Glad your confirmed you have a wickedly dry sense of humor! I too would love to see more small kitchens. It's a lot easier to make a giant dream kitchen or make a space look fabulous with a wall of windows on an ocean view (I'm talking to you interior design magazines), but I need to see creative inspiration for my small kitchen...and late 1980's track home. So come on you small kitchen people up thread, post those modest kitchens you're selfishly withholding!

I didn't really find this cabinet (?); I built it 1989 when I was a single sergeant and had more apartment space than furniture funding. It sat against a wall in the center of my efficiency apartment. At the time I kept a swivel shelf on top of it to hold the TV; I could watch TV from the "bedroom" or "living room."

I've always intended to build a hutch to go on top, just never got a round tuit.

This photo was taken before we moved. Right now it's sitting out on the sunporch, buried in boxes and "stuff" waiting for the house to come together.

There is one fixed shelf inside. I put a pull out basket on the left, top shelf to hold napkins and smaller linens.

Love all of your cabinets! I gotta get my full driver's license so I can go to these things and bring stuff home to fix up like this. Thanks for sharing - I'll be watching this thread to see the rest of them.

I've probably posted pics of mine before. Here is one of the doctor or dental cabinets. I need to have the glass replaced and paint it. It's one of those "some day" projects, but hope to get around to it soon. It has beveled glass and I plan to replace it with beveled glass, so it will be costly, but worth it, I think. I paid $70 for it in a junk store.

This isn't a cabinet or cupboard, but a counter top that I found roadside. I plan to use it in my bathroom remodel. Will face it in beadboard and just put a curtain across the front. The faucets, etc. on top came out of the dumpster at the thrift shop.

I was trying to post pics and doctor a hurt cat. Here is a one that I bought to go in the kitchen when we remodel.

The pics were made in the junk store where I bought it. So crowded with stuff I couldn't get all of it in the pic at once.

Here's the top.

Look thru the ship's wheel and you can see the bottom of it.

Actually, I bought two of these from the same place...the other one is a little smaller and a little different in design.

Great finds Marilyn! I really love the dental cabinet and that huge one you are going to use in your kitchen.

An old Oak Sewing Machine cabinet. The tops lifts up and the whole thing will unfold into a great little bar. There's a nice metal tray(where the old treddle machine used to be) that is great for setting glasses etc. on.
DH bought me this for our 20th anniversary. We had been out for drive and I spotted an ANTIQUES FOR SALE sign at a farm.
Now DH pretends he doen't see those signs!:)

Awww...man! These are wonderful. Thanks for letting me know this post was here, Lydia. I'll have to get some photos of the ones that I have at home. My DD has a bunch at her house.
