There's a guy sitting outside my door ...

Hey there everyone! I've been reading your posts but didn't get to respond. Things have been happenin here ... Hubby is in India for a recruitment drive, and I've been alone since Friday evening. A faucet in the bathroom was leaking, and the maintenance guys tried to fix it but it didn't work; I reminded them again and again - they turned a deaf ear. So I turned off the main water valve in the bathroom; that would take care of the leakage. Husband reached India at 5 AM, I spoke to him and then went off to sleep, around 5:30AM Sat morning.

The agent who has rented out this place tried calling me up (the bathroom taps in the outhouse - a small family lives there - ran dry bcoz I turned the valve in OUR bathroom off). I was fast asleep and didn't attend the call. A minute later I heard doors being banged INSIDE my house, the cats running around, and Nikita screaming in my face, alarmed. So I rushed out of the bedroom - to see the maintenance guys and the agent swarming all over the place! I was so sleepy I didn't recognise any of them, and was looking for something heavy to throw at the nearest guy. And the agent said relax, it's just us. The nerve of that man!!! They knew very well that I was alone at home, they had no right to get into my house! The agent said he thought there was no one at home, so he got in - as if THAT was the right thing to do! He said he told the guys to use a screwdriver to open the glass door that leads out from the hall, and to get in from there. I said he did a very wrong thing by breaking into my house, and he said not to worry, he let them come in only bcoz he was with them. So I reminded him that he is still an outsider, and told them all to get out. He told me that he wasn't aware that the valve controlled the water supply in the outhouse bathroom, yet accused me a few minutes later of causing problems for the neighbours; I told him I had no idea the valve was a common one, but he just wouldn't listen. Then I had to remind him to get out.

Told the entire story to husband, he said he'd lodge a police complaint, these guys have gone too far this time. I can't go someplace else to stay - those guys know that they could enter the house thru that door; they might let the cats out or do somethng to them, just to get back at me (and I know they're quite capable of that). So hubs arranged for a guy from a security agency to be posted outside our door 8PM - 8AM every night. During the day I'm fine - our next door neighbour works the night shift; he's at home all day, and is aware of what's going on. We're also looking for a new house now; can't stay here with what's been happening!

Anyway, now Sylvester (love the name!) stands guard outside the door, and takes rounds every few minutes, checking the back door to the hall. Finally I can sleep in peace!

I hope everyone's safe and warm - I always thought it'd be lovely if we got snow here but until I read your posts, didn't actually think about the problems it would cause. It's cold here too now, but pleasant - around 16-18 deg C. Anyone wanna come over for some hot chocolate and brownies?! I'm sure the cats would love some more laps to cuddle up on - mine's not enough for five!

Hugs to everyone,

Pranjal
