Maybe you could soak the stains in some hydrogen peroxide, which has a mild bleaching action. I don't know if it will work if you already dried everything, which might have set the stains, but it might be worth a try.

Try some shampoo. It is supposed to get body oils out well. It works well for ring around the collar. Just don't use a colored shampoo or you could make the problem worse.

How disappointing! I don't have any advice except to google stain removal and continue trying to get it out. I would be crushed, because when I have a favorite nightgown, I wear it until it just gets too frumpy! And your vintage pillowcases, too! Good luck, and let us know if you find anything that works.

Thanks for the warning. I think Petra has a good idea with the peroxide. Which stain remover did you use?

I used a stain removal stick called "Stain B Gone". Have used it in the past with success. Yes, that was a big no-no I did by drying the item with the set stain; but I thought the remover would work.

I have used the old salt and lemon mix on stains on old linens and it works - eventually. Takes some time; but this red stuff looks mighty tough. I'm convinced it was the face cream that caused the staining. Just wanted people to be aware. Thanks for the feedback.

Look for the Oxi-clean stain fighter,as I have crappy water, which we softer and put in iron remover, and it is still bad. It seems to take out stains that have been in for awhile It is a blue bottle, and Clorex also has one with Oxi-clean, but that is good but the regular one I mentioned seems to work better. There is also a concentrated one in a spray bottle.

We have very hard (a lot of iron) water and I have discovered over the years that any sunscreen that gets on clothing or towels turns red in the wash. Sadly, I haven't found a way to remove those stains.

I never trust those dollar stores. They put famouus brand names on the labels, but we have no idea hat we're getting. If I were you,I'd stay out of that store. I buy my beauty supplies at a well-known American drugstore.

Since you've dried your items, I don't know if this will work or not, but I swear by a product called Folex. We get it at Lowes by the gallon (great for carpet stains) but it is also available in a spray bottle. Peroxide is another old standby.

tobyt,I have never heard that or experience sunscreen stains on clothing as I don't wear SC anywhere but my face in the summer. Thanks for the tip.

I usually buy the Olay face cream at CVS, it's like $9 - $12 for the same 4oz. bottle, so when I saw it at Dollar General one time for $7.50 I bought it. Since then I haven't found it there except for this sensitive skin formula variety the other day. I'm going to CVS tomorrow.

if the material has been laundered and dried in a dryer,you wont get the stains out now

awhile back,I was to a MaryKay show...did the face makeup thing,came home,washed it off,3x with a hot washcloth,and then my oil of olay facecloths..those washcloths that I used,have never washed out the stains from the MK product.

you can try ironite.. or what ever its called, iron remover for laundry. takes out all kinds of stuff! My son's yellow football uniform (was icky yello) came out bright white.. I had some stains on a white top that wouldn't come out, and this took them out.

The reddish stains are probably iron from the water. You could try something like CLR (Calcium Lime & Rust remover) or maybe LimeAway if that works on rust but I thought that was mostly a lime scale remover.

Also, plain old Dawn dish soap is one of the best pretreaters & stain removers out there. It cuts oil and grease so it's good on greasy messes. Best to treat it immediately of course and after the dryer it'll be tougher to remove.

Another thing you could try is soaking overnight or for a couple days in automatic dishwasher detergent and possibly some Borax in it too. That's how I whiten things around here. The dishwasher detergent should be one with enzymes in it like Cascade Complete. Check the box to be sure it has enzymes.

Get some carpet cleaner - MUST BE WOOLITE - should take the stain right out.
