My girlfriend went to see it, she said it was good but that there was no way that she would ever watch it with . She said I would probably be crying hysterically......

I haven't seen it, but when I was browsing Amazon I saw that it is available on Kindle for $5. It's a young person's book, but the reviews look like adults are reading it.

lynn_d, I am afraid I would be like your girlfriend. Though the story is one of gripping love for a horse, I don't know the ending and would be so afraid of what might happen. Too close to my heart and past experiences with pets.

I think Old Yeller traumatized me for like. Why parents took kids to see that I will never know.

Ellie....I should have added me to that...she would never watch it with me. I'm with you, I canot watch Old Yeller to this day, what a heartbreaking story.

I heard it is a "must see" but like others...I too have a real hard time with anything sad relating to animals even if the ending is happy.

I hate movies where I spend the whole 2 hours worrying about the animal in it. I don't care if the animal is the main character like Lassie, or has a bit part, like the cat in Alien- I worry and worry and can't follow the plot for the worrying.

I don't even like to watch the previews! I've never seen Ol' Yeller or Bambi. The Yearling nearly killed me.

My mother and I sobbed our way thru a Lassie movie in the 70's, I think- we ran out of napkins in the theater and were just a mess!

I think I'd better skip Warhorse - I had that feeling from the previews I've watched anyway.

I've seen Old Yeller - a number of times, and the ending never changes. The puppy almost saves me from destruction, but not quite.

I'm with you all! I have such a hard time with animal stories. I still have a book about a Beardie that I was trying to read to Grands 15 or so years ago.... just can not get the words to come out without sobs. Too embarrassing. Think I will HAVE to pass too.

I truly feel the movies from my childhood shaped who I am. And not in a good way sometimes. I will not go see War Horse because when I was a kid, I saw Bambi and all the Lassie movies and became hysterical at each of them and had to be asked to leave the theater. I think it's cruel to take kids to these types of movies.For that reason I didn't see Old Yeller. But a few years ago I thought I was wise enough to realize it was just a movie and went to see Marley and Me, and literally SOBBED out loud at the end. My love for animals is sometimes extreme, and I had no pets as a child nor did my parents even like animals very much. So I blame in on the early movies for traumatizing me.

We just saw this and thought it was terrible. Totally predictable, overblown musical score, and sappy. I'm not heartless, so the horses in agony was difficult to watch, but I felt the movie was manipulative.

DS went to see it ealier this evening and siad if was ok but nothing more

I wish I had waited for the DVD. Totally not worth the price of a regular movie ticket.

Well, I went to see Warhorse last night and I loved it. I did not like all the graphic war stuff but......I am a horse lover and the neat scenes when the horses intereact with each are were great. I closed my eyes to some of the graphic stuff, which only shown briefly. It was beautifully filmed and I am glad I went.

My hubby has already mentioned wanting to see this movie, and I had to say 'no thanks'. I'd be crying like a baby at any hint of animals suffering. I've also never seen Old Yeller or Marley and Me. It's hard enough hearing heartbreaking real-life stories in the news, without actually paying to see it in a movie.
I don't know why it is, but movies about people who suffer do not affect me as deeply. It's strange when I think about it...

I went to see it and loved it. It had a happy ending so no worries on that score. I also enjoyed the Scenes from WW1. It was a dreadful war but it was accuratley depicted and I just loved the whole movie. Sometimes you have to ignore what the critics say. It was a sentimental story but that's Ok with me.

I don't think I would see it in the theater, but might rent it later -- then I could fast forward through the graphic stuff.

Petaloid..if you rent it that is fine but some of the scenes are really amazing seen on the big screen. There is a cavalry charge that is wonderful although it ends in disaster for the British. It is a beautifully visual movie.

I thought that cavalry charge was laughable. I certainly hope the British army didn't actually try to ambush a German war camp, equipped with machine guns and other artillery, on horses with only swords. If that really happened, I can see why they lost their status as rulers of the world.
