DH will swear we have gremlins because he can never find his keys, or anything else. I always find them... right where he left them. LOL

Maybe 'that' old lady (or man) came and moved or took them.

Have you checked pocketbooks...empty it/them totally and turn it upside down and/or inside out.
all coat and and outer garment pockets?
Looked in the vehicle? Is is locked? Stand on your head and look under the seat and beside the console...I've found missing things there.
Refrigerator?
Trash?

When did you have them last?
Has anyone else driven it since you drove it last?
The trunk maybe?

Have someone come and help you look. I once had a neighbor lose her keys and she had looked high and low.
I went down there, asked a few questions, and walked righ to the jacket where I found them in the pocket.

Good luck...you're right. They are not cheap at all! I heard somewhere that someone had paid $300 for one programmed key from the dealership.

You've probably already done this, but...

Check hubby's jacket and pants pockets and check the floor to see if they fell from the table.

Is there a drawer that they could have fallen into if they were placed on a counter?

Could they still be in the car, or have been dropped on the way from the car to the house?

Did you get anything out of the car trunk, possibly dropping your keys inside it as you did?

We misplace things every now and then, but almost always find them. Best of luck!

He put his somewhere this summer when we were called to go to MN quickly because his mother was dieing....still have not found them!!!!

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice. I did all of the things you suggested and more. Got a flashlight and looked under the dresser, bed, nightstands and sofa. Lots of dust bunnies but no keys. Looked everywhere in the car. Checked the trash and recycling, even emptied all the cans. Cleaned and straightened out each room as I went. The place has never looked so good. LOL

My first suspicion was DH had them so checked all his stuff but he only has his set. The last day I had them was Christmas Eve and everything was chaotic around here, so who knows what happened. I asked the dog if she had ate them but she just gave me a puzzled look.

Yikes! I sure hope they don't cost $300! DH will have a fit! Maybe it was that old lady who keeps hanging around. I think I will blame her.

Check jacket and pants pockets. Inside the car itself? Dog's bed. Freezer (hey, I've heard crazier places than that!). Inside shoes in your closet.

In your searches, did you find any missing socks that never came out of the dryer? LOL

True story; back in the 70's at a restaurant I worked at, the kitchen manager lost his keys. They were found baked into a pan of shortcake weeks later. (It had been baked and frozen. We didn't serve six week old cake.) He actually remembered that that was the day when he lost them.

Check the turkey stuffing too.

Have you had any holiday visitors? Sometimes well meaning busybodies try to 'tidy up' and put things away to be "helpful". Or they rudely move things out of their way when they need space. Maybe call around and question people?

Gee, Clare, I hope you find those keys before Monday rolls around.

Keep looking a bit more...like the others have said, the replacement keys cost a small fortune.

my dd1 got ahold of my mother's keys when she was a toddler...she finally found them in the front closet floor...you might call around and see if company picked them up by accident...

mother lost her tv clicker..found it in a kitchen drawer...

My DGD put my mom's remote in her mailbox on the front porch. I'm glad it wasn't the keys.

Do you still have all the wrappings from Christmas eve? I found my TV remote in the "de-cluttering" bag one year.

No company came by so can't blame them (wish I could - LOL). I checked the wrappings - not there. I am ready to clean out the refrig and freezer and even the oven. I asked DH if he would take the washer apart to see if they were left in a pocket and went through a cycle. Boy, this is driving me nuts!

Now you gotta try to remember everyone who has been in your house since last you drove the car.

Sit down and try to think the last time you drove. Did you have to use the keys to get into the house? Or did hubby open the door? Were you carrying groceries or any other items you shopped for? I ask because if you had bags, you probably headed straight for wherever those items would be put away. (Of course, if you're like me that prospect would be too good to be true. All the bags land in the same spot, but ohhh noooo not the keys LOL) Did you take off your coat before putting things away? What was the first thing you had to do when you arrived home? Cook? Clean something? Do the duty dance to the bathroom :)? Answer the telephone? Yell at the kids :)? Feed the furbabies? Sit down calmly and think back. Good luck!

Clare, definitely check the frige and freezer! Do you have any idea how many times DMIL would put the milk in the cupboard and the salt in the frige? We still find ourselves starting to put something in the garbage instead of the frige. The garbage closet is right next to the frige! We just think of her when we do it!!

Hope you find them soon. You are right, they are expensive. I think we were told $50 when DD bought her used jeep, for an extra set with the remote key fob.

And for good measure, look carefully along the sides of the car seats; we've lost cell phones there before and wouldn't have thought to look there except for the ringing. Maybe you've already done this. Good luck! Such a frustrating experience!!

Sure hope you find them too...if not better dig out the title, proof of insurance, etc. since dealership will ask for proof of ownership before they make another one. Oh, and don't forget your checkbook!

The "reader" (thingy that reads the info on that special button) in our steering column went out & had to have a new one- that was costly enough, but I nearly choked at the $125. for two new keys!

Too late now, but maybe a good idea to have a hook that one hangs them on.

Someone in a discussion here a while ago said that he was able to get such a replacement key for in the neighbourhood of $75.00, maybe up around $80.00, I think. But quote a lot higher at dealership, as I recall.

I found mine once under a flowerpot on the porch...a year after I lost them! LOL!

Sheesh Clare. I only hope the New Year brings you better luck and fortune than the last month has. You've certainly earned it.

Are these the new truck keys? Mine has a split seat and things fall between the console and the seat towards the back and are almost impossible to find without a very careful search usually more than once. Happened with my glasses and my cell phone more than once.

I lost my keys twice, got them back both times. The first time, I had been in a minor car accident and the police took me home. At my house I discovered my keys were lost. Found them a week later at the lost and found of my closest grocery store. The second time I had visited my cousin and the keys disappeared. She found them beneath the cushion of her sofa. They had been in my back pocket. I've been very careful since then. I know the panic of lost keys and the expense of replacing lost ones.

Once my mom stopped to pet the dog on her way in to visit. Darn dog saw the giant clear key chain, grabbed it and ran off with it through the snow banks. It took probably half a day of digging through the snow, with Mom, me, and 4 kids looking.

I was going to ask if you had dogs? or cats? Would they take to their beds?

If I'm not mistaken, you might be able to get a key fob for less at Ebay. It would probably need reprogramming, but it may save you money in the long run.

My Toyota guy told me a long time ago to be careful with mine because it was at least $85 to replace, and that was about 10 years ago. I'm sure they've gone up.

Good luck looking, I hope you find the key ring. How frustrating it would be to lose something important like that!

Saying that the last time you saw them the atmosphere was chaotic is not a good thing, one time I threw out an important receipt during a time of great distraction, and after searching high and low I steeled myself to go through my garbage bag, there it was, eww.

Are you able to relax and think back to remember what had occurred the last time you had those keys. Distinctly remember placing them on that mat, or maybe at the last minute decided to put somewhere else over the holidays?

My keys, my purse, and my watch have distinct 'holding' spots, and occasionally I take off my watch in the bedroom and leave it on the dresser, but the next day when I need it and go over to the usual spot in the kitchen for it, it won't be there and in my panic I'll momentarily forget the other spot. So I try to stick to the same ONE spot for special things. I've also been known (only to me) to hide special things in the house (like the kids S.I.N. #, special money etc) then not be able to recall where I've hidden it. Then we moved and I rediscovered it, not a help in your situation.

And as life will have it, you will have bought the new ones and then you'll come across the originals - hope not!

WOW! What a response! Thanks everyone! No luck yet and I have literally torn the place apart. I think somehow they either got mixed in with the garbage, which is long gone or are in a very strange unusual place and won't be found for a long time. Or maybe the dog did bury them. She does like to run off with my things. I still love her though.

I will find them when I am looking for something else. That has happened to me in the past. This time I found a book I thought I had given away over a year ago.

I did look up the fob on ebay and it runs between $10 - $15 so might get it there, then have the key made by a local locksmith. I will use DH's till I get the new one. And if the old one shows up, I will have a spare.

It is just too crazy around here with the holidays, master bath remodel, and other minor problems to get stressed over a lost key. Time to call it quits. (And isn't that when you find it - when you give up and order a new one?)
