'Red' room, nothing working; beggin ideas, 2 pics

These photos are terrible. They're washed out and don't show the dark, rich colors. But they're the best I could do on this cloudy day.

I brought the "first choice" chair home and put it in the office. It doesn't do a thing for the red room, and the red room doesn't do a thing for it.

I want a recliner with legs, preferably not Queen Anne legs, that looks like it could remotely belong in an "English Library/Office"-type room. I don't want leather.

The oak washstand is not staying in this room. It doesn't work with the floor at all.

The flash faded everything here, but you can see there's just no "umph!" Even with the planed rug, lamp, accessories, I don't "see" this chair working.

Pictures are another problem. I want to put Wes' two favorite Lee Teeter prints in this room. As you can see, the current mats and frames don't work either. I'm hanging them as they are, and "thinking" about them for a while. "Red" is becoming a challenge.

I've not unwrapped the dark, round legs. I have 30 days to return the chair. I think it it's going back today.

My next choice to test drive will be a "neutral" recliner in a textured fabric. It doesn't have legs, but it is very comfortable. Do you think a solid neutral might go better in this room?

I could just use a recliner I already have; Wes and I both find it comfortable. My neighbor has offered to reupholster it for a reasonable fee.

Can someone offer any ideas of what to do in this room?
