Not DHs day to die...

DH had a very close call Thursday while finishing work. It apparently wasn't his day to die.

He was on a two-lane highway going southbound. A school bus was traveling northbound. Little did he know there was a high-speed chase going on - some guy with drugs and about 15 city police cars and highway patrol vehicles following the guy (who had drugs). DH also did not know that the drug guy had already caused a police car and a school bus loaded with 60 kids to collide.

DH looked up and saw the drug guy's vehicle pull out into his lane to pass the bus and estimates the guy was going at least 100 mph. When the drug guy saw DH and about 5 other southbound cars, he crossed over the lane of oncoming traffic and pulled over onto to the southbound shoulder and continued speeding by them!

Think about it. You're driving 50 mph and a vehicle pulls out in front of you and then onto YOUR shoulder and speeds by at 100 mph! Gravel flew everywhere. The chase vehicles passed the bus in the correct lane of traffic and continued the pursuit a few more miles until the drug guy rolled his car.

DH was rattled, for sure. It didn't even really sink in for me until a few hours later when I realized he was literally within inches from something tragic. A lot of lives besides his were in danger. The kids on the bus and the officer involved in the collision were not seriously hurt. Looks like we got an early Christmas gift, as did other families.

Here is the police car that collided with the bus earlier in the chase.
