Have never used a supermarket. Have done it through a restaurant. How bad can it be? And if it's awful, you'll always have a "remember when...."?? story! :)

My friend that is recovering from knee surgery had a turkey dinner like that for Thanksgiving and she said it was pretty good. I think she is going for the ham one for Christmas, as she is still recovering. I think she may have gotten it at Kroger.

I did it once. Not at Christmas, but it was a Christmas-like dinner when family was visiting. It was from Shaw's and it was wonderful. Of course, a big bonus is the ease of it (I was swamped and stressed at the time and this was the only way I could handle it), but the food really was good. We had turkey, gravy, and I can't remember the sides.

I've not but a very good friend of mine does it for both T-giving and Christmas every year. She is in retail and there is no way she has the time nor energy to prepare her own. She swears by them!

Some of my friends have done that. You usually get a turkey or ham with all the trimmings/sometimes you get to select the sides. They have all been happy with the quality. The prices didn't seem that bad, and of course the conveinence.

I ate one at a friend's house who did it for T-day. I was impressed with the offerings and the quality. It would depend on who does the preparation though of course. A bad restaurant or deli is going to produce a bad spread. A good one will most likely try to maintain their reputation for excellence with a quality meal.

We have several stores in the area that do this; they are very good, but not "grandma good". They are a lifesaver if you are traveling close to the holiday. Just make sure you check to see if you need to pre-order; many of our stores will run out of the Christmas dinner "kits" well before Christmas Eve.

I checked the website for the shoprite at home and it wasn't in their ad for this week.
So I contacted an old friend and asked her and she said they were offering them this year and gave me the phone # to call.
I am hoping this will work out,for oh so many reasons....
I 'm going to call and see what the offerings are.

We got one from Wegman's a few years ago but not for Christmas. Ours was a late summer family reunion. DD made all the arrangements with Wegman's from out of town by phone. They were very helpful.

We had turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy--all surprisingly good. No complaints.

We have done Safeway in a box many years ago. No where near as good as homemade but better than what most restaurants serve as holiday dinners.

An elderly friend of mine does this occasionally for holiday dinners when she and her husband have their sons over. She said it cost her $70 for a whole turkey, dressing, msh.pot salad and dessert. I was thinking there was something else but can't remember now. It's from a local supermarket.

Fresh Market does that for Thanksgiving.
Don't know if they do for Christmas.

did it in 2006, when i had no time to do anything for turkey-day. it was actually my dh's idea, since dinner responsibilities would fall on him. we ordered from Publix and the mashed potatoes and salty gravy were great, nothing else was good, including the turkey that came in a plastic bag you cooked it in :-0 even non-picky dh didn't like it lol ~ liz

Whole foods has really good quality and taste.

My daughter wailed about not having left overs, the year she came for TG. When she returned home, she went to Krogers, and got turkey left overs. Said it was really good. But, none of us ever bought one of those dinners.

Cracker Barrel does pickup meals. Friend used them Thanksgiving.

If you do not have a store in the area, contact certain restaurants. Do you need the turkey or ham? Could you order part of it and do the rest? Chicken? Where north are you going? Google the area and then call.

Friends of ours ordered their holiday dinner from Boston Market, and said it was really good.
