To those of you who have been using these "home made" detergents, are you experiencing any odor, mold or mildew issues? The reason I ask is because castile soap builds up into a gooopy, gel-like gunk if not properly rinsed. This could potentially cause problems in washers. Every home-made product I've tried - from detergent to fabric softener - has proven unsatisfactory. Either the products don't clean well, they risk building up in my machine or on my clothes or they just don't work. Price is not the only consideration, which is what appears to be driving this homemade laundry movement.

Bleach is fine. We've got to change some wording. It's just that bleach leaves its own residue if you use too much. If you have sensitive skin (like a baby's butt when washing cloth diapers), I would recommend running another wash with Charlie's to get the bleach out if you use more than a tablespoon. But it's fine to throw bleach in with the wash. The reason you don't need fs is because most fabrics are naturally soft once you get through the old detergent residues left behind by your previous washings. That can just take several loads. You thinking of this thread by chance? There's a bunch of different recipes for laundry soap but they're all similar. Some prefer a powder detergent while others prefer the liquid/gel. Some add OxiClean, some add Cascade or similar to get some enzymes in there for an added boost, some add vinegar, some have added Calgon or other softener, although Borax will help soften the water.

THere is a paint available to paint on soap, I think plaid makes it, (not 100% about the brand) you can paint on soap & candles with it. Check google, or else try your local craft store-Micheals, hobby lobby etc..... Also, there should be a color chart somewhere to mix dyes to get brown......don't know where though...... Hazel
