Piggy Lee and Piggy Sue...on hand this morning for their morning treats.

And some pictures of a girl and her pigs.....oh, okay, an old woman and her hawgs! Me and Piggy Sue.

Piggy Sue

Piggy Sue is the feral pig that I raised. Piggy Lee is one that showed up here just before I got Piggy Sue. Piggy Lee was about the size of a cat. They roam free, but I used to pen up Piggy Sue at night, but it has been so muddy here...more rain than I've ever seen, as far as the number of days in a row...and my husband has been home for a month, and he was to build them a barn and fence off about an acre for them, but it has been too wet and muddy to do that, but that is in the plans.

Wonder what they'd think of all this snow we have...

Our dogs didn't want to leave the porch this morning...We had to chase them off so they didn't drop a load on the porch...lol...There was at least 5 inches on the porch (and that's a covered porch) and there is over a foot out there...but the drifts are four and five feet deep. More than we've seen out here for years and years.....And.....it is still snowing. The weather men say it should stop tomorrow evening. Thirty some hours more snow...should be fun.

Well, if a dog can be a "man's best friend"...nothing wrong with some piggies being a "woman's best friend". I notice the kitties in the same picture as you....beautiful that they all seem to get along, eh?

Ditto with the others on calling the folks that haven't bothered to rsvp. However, in terms of dinner and the question as to whether or not you should make something different for finicky kids, while I agree with the general sentiment that kids need to learn to eat what is put in front of them, you also don't want your holiday table to become a battlefield, if they are ill mannered as well as picky. After all, it is not your responsibility to teach these children how to behave. Who wants to listen to children whining or parents admonishing whining children at a holiday table? I had a friend who handled it well, as she had a big family, with many children who were raised in different ways. So, she set a place at the table for the children, and set up a side table with hot dogs in a crock pot and all the fixin's in a sort of "hot dog bar" on one side of the room. The children could then either choose to eat "grown up food" or go build themselves a dog, quietly, without complaining or sulking about the dinner offerings. If you make roast beef for the adults, allowing for enough in case the children decide they want it as well and it turns out that they eat hot dogs and you have leftovers, well, goodness knows that leftover roast beef has a hundred uses at least. If you have left over hot dogs...well, they're pretty cheap, so if you don't have a dog who would appreciate them, or wild critters such as raccoons or crows about, you won't be wasting much if you just toss them.

I'm so sorry about your Mom - and about everyone else going through this. It is so wonderful though to have this Forum to talk about these things. When my DD passed, I didn't even know about "firsts", until someone told me that the anxious feelings I was having at certain times during that first year, was my feeling her loss. I called her a Holiday Baby because she was born on the first of the year of the US bicentennial, and died on the US birthday. I still get anxious around New Year's because I keep thinking I'm supposed to do something for her. Then I end up going to the cemetary on the 2nd. Seems as though I have that, "it wasn't so bad" feeling and can then go do what I have to do. It's been a lot of years now, and with each year, it gets so much better. I meet people like yourself that are still going through the "firsts", and I just feel blessed that I survived that. It is VERY important to continue the traditions - to continue the celebrations. As the years go by, they will tend to become ways to share your Mom's life to the generations that follow. They need to know her and family traditions are a great venue for doing just that. Talking about your Mom amongst the family is an important release as well. Hugs to you as you go through this. Have faith that Mom is still with you, and smiling that the family is still going strong.

Their not swinging anything but their snouts and jaws. Piggy Lee went to the woods today and Piggy Sue stayed behind to dig up my gingers.
