What's on your Christmas menu?

I was sure I'd already seen this posted quite awhile ago. That was too soon for me though! LOL I did a search and can't find it anyway.

Christmas Eve is simple:

prime rib

twice baked potatoes

maybe a salad

either sour dough bread or garlic toast, can't make up my mind

apple pie

What is on your menu for Christmas? I feel like I am missing something or forgetting something.

Ours for Christmas Day is:

turkey

ham

stuffing

mashed potatoes and gravy

sweet potatoes

baked beans

corn

pineapple casserole

cranberries

pickles and olives etc

dinner rolls

pumpkin, lemon and chocolate pie

I have tons of goodies and cookies and candy to be eaten up also!

My gosh, what great menus. There's just the two of us so I'm not cooking that much. We're having:

Prime rib
Roasted potatoes
Green beans almadine
Sister Shubert rolls
Pumpkin pie

Looks kinda puny after your menus!

After the three-day fiasco preparing the ill-fated "Thankful-this-day-is-over" meal, (which ended with deep burns to my left hand) I declared myself off limits to huge holiday meal prep unless I have three hard-working helpers. We are going to be low-key for Christmas. He is going to make his favorite breakfast - venison sausage, eggs, biscuits - I will add fresh fruit and oatmeal for myself. Then we're going to sit in the livingroom, read our Christmas cards, watch the snow and birds, drink hot tea, and decide on a movie to watch at the theater. Afterward we're pulling a page from the movie "A Christmas Story" and going to a lovely Chinese restaurant. I'm pre-ordering Peking Duck. I've never had it, but I'm hoping it's similar to my recipe for "Drunk Duck" which takes three days to prepare with Brandy, spices, soaking, massaging, drying, and slow roasting. I'm looking forward to the day.

It will just be two of us for Christmas eve. We usually do seafood. Crab or lobster or something. I have 2 frozen tails. That might work. Or we might have fondue in front of the fire..... hmmmm Christmas day we are doing Thanksgiving over again. My daughter had pneumonia over Thanksgiving so she missed dinner here and said she really missed the turkey and stuffing we make. So it will be turkey part deux. Just 4 of us. Her and her BF and us. This weekend she is spending one night so we will be baking together on Sat. We haven't done that in years. Only making a few things as non of us want to eat it all. Mostly for gifts. Making biscotti and fudge and truffles. She will bring her dog.... so 2 dogs and 4 cats in the house. The cats will hide all day and the dogs will chase each other... will be a zoo here!

Grandson's birthday party was held in the afternoon. Went back to their house for gift unwrapping and finally left at 7:30. Stopped at a diner and had chicken noodle soup, chicken fried steak, baked potato, mixed steamed veggies and french bread and butter with iced tea. Burp.

For many, many years when we were growing up and the beyond, our family went to ’Christmas breakfast’ at my paternal grandmother’s home. After the passing of most of our parents, we discontinued this ritual. This year, both of my brothers live nearby (one moved here a little over a year ago) and i have one niece and her family living here too. So we decided to get together today for brunch. One of my brothers planned to host but he tested positive for Covid last Tuesday, so we proceeded with plans at our home. We were sad he couldn't make it but will get together again soon and do it all over again for his benefit. We had our traditional eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese grits, homemade biscuits, jellies and jams, fruit, plus bloody mary’s and mimosas and hot cocoa for the little ones. So yummy. Tomorrow we will go to our daughter’s for pot roast (DGD’s request) sides of potatoes and veggies and apple pie. Plus whatever snacks we have thrown together.

Still do not know IF I will have Christmas or what!

But IF I do here's menu:

shrimp and grits casserole
scotch eggs, a definite
smoked sausage bites in cranberry and chili sauce
buttered Mary B's biscuits
blueberry grape jello salad

May change as I'm still thinking!

If they do come, will be just for a little bit before they head to HER parents.

Alisandi...can i come to your house??? LOL I'm going to make, Ham, Aug. potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, carrot-raisin salad, rolls, apple and pumpkin pie.

We're using a KIS menu this year...SO! it's smoked brisket & smoked ham (already smoked & in the freezer), scalloped potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw, pickle tray, & cookies. With 40 or more ranging in ages from newborn to 86, this will work!! If my kids were coming to my house, they'd get chili. But not this year.

Keeping it simple, since family may be snowed out.

There will only be 6 adults; each brings part of the meal.

So far it looks like Turkey, green beans, some kind of potatoes, corn casserole, sweet potato casserole, ambrosia, broccoli cheddar soup, biscuits, plus cookies and cake.

I don't know what is on the Christmas menu cause I'm just showing up for dinner! I'll bring something if my Mom asks, but usually she like to do it all herself.

Our traditional Christmas dinner is...

Beef Wellington
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Glazed carrots
Creamed corn
Rolls and butter

Cabernet Sauvignon to drink with dinner

Pecan pie for dessert served with a dessert wine

What are scotch eggs? I have never heard of them but am guessing it is Southern cooking.

We will be having dinner out and a movie on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day if it is nice we will play a round of golf (Course is closed, but residents may play)and I am not sure what to eat. Might better get something planned since most restaurants will be closed.
We had our youngest daughter and family here for Thanksgiving, so no company for Christmas.

Scotch definitely aren't Southern.

I bake mine instead of frying.

A Scotch egg consists of a shelled hard-boiled egg, wrapped in a sausage meat mixture, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried. Scotch eggs are commonly eaten cold, typically with salad and pickles.

Cut mine in half when serving along with dijon mustard for those that want.

Well hubby has to work Christmas Eve day...so it will probably be a smÃ¶rgÃ¥sbord of appetizer type things..

And Christmas Day will be a local grown grass feed beef rib roast..some kind of potato...probably Au gratin...some green veggies...some home made bread...

Oh and for breakfast it will be Woody's (over at the CF)Creme Brulee French Toast Casserole and a sausage, egg and cheese fritta....

We're headed out at 8am tomorrow morning-driving up to my DD's in Raleigh. 1st time w've been together in 18 yrs in her home for Xmas! I am psyched!
They do all kinds of seafood Xmas Eve and on the 25th-I'll be preparing:
Homemade sticky buns for gift time and for dinner late afternoon:
Roast Prime Rib au jus
Chestnut -Apple Sourdough dressing
Mashed & Sweet Potatoes
Limas /w pimento & sauteed onion & sour cream
Acorn Squash
Raspberry English Trifle for dessert

I am going with Sharon FL.....I will bring whatever she want me to bring.
Wine from our beatiful central coast, avocados, lemons from our tree....whatever she wants.
I still haven't decided. Last year was a Hawaiian feast but I am thinking either ham and scalloped potatoes or stew and hot rolls.
Or Cornish Pasties made with the authentic beef kidney suet crust if I can find the suet.

Since it's just the two of us we always make appetizers and a thermos of hot chocolate and drive around town looking at Christmas light and eat our appetizers.
For Christmas dinner we are having spiral cut ham, twice baked potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and homemade rolls.

Carol-in-Cali...Hey-if you can find a SST jet-hop on it & come to Clearwater by 8am and I'll wait for you! Oh-don't forget to bring wine, lemons and avocados...in that order! LOL
