Are You Doing Anything Today

I am. I am going with Amber, Alyssa and Cheryl to see my new Great Grandson. This is the first we will have seen him. We are taking lunch, chili and creamy vegetable soup is what Cheryl is taking and I am taking ham and cheese sandwiches on little Hawaiian rolls, lemon meringue pie, yellow cup cakes with white icing and blue sugar. I am also taking bottled water. I fixed a special lunch box for Alyssa, two of the rolls plain, a bag with cheese and a bag with shaved ham. Also a container of jello and a clementine and a small bottle of water. She will like that. I am giving the baby a big box of Pampers and we are all giving Mandy a bouquet of red and green carnations, Christmas colors. I don't know what gifts the girls are giving him. The baby's grandma will be there too, she is my daughter, Terri. It should be an enjoyable time.

I am cleaning house and making goodies for tomorrow. Will also be washing the china and setting the table...that is if Molly ever wakes up..lol

got a new part for my house heat, then went out to do errands...no power steering! so now have to wait for dh to get home, and get cards mailed and pay a bill... grrrrr!

I do make New Year's Resolutions, and I really try hard to stick to them. My resolutions last year included trying to fix many of the things that were broken (health-wise) with my poor ol' body. I tackled the sleep apnea first and now have a CPAP machine that helps tremendously. Then I tackled the bad foot problems, and things pretty much stopped right there! More than five months later, I'm still not fully healed, so the rest of that particular resolution has gone to heck in a handbasket! And I absolutely do have hawg jowl and black-eyed peas, or Hoppin' John, for New Year's dinner. It's been a family tradition for my whole life. I don't know that it's brought me any luck, but having a pork roast in the oven and beans simmering on the stove makes the house smell like January 1 to me, every year. I'm thinking up my resolutions for this year as I type. It's always seemed like a good time to take stock of what I've done right or wrong the previous year, and to resolve to do a better job in the new one. Marcia

On her birthday I was going to make a cake for Jan, basically because I wanted to play around at decorating a cake, but she shot that idea down saying it wasn't on her diet... Well diet be damned, I am gonna make her a valentines cake complete with red roses on it, and if she don't like it, I guess I will have to eat it to,,,,but I am going to make it anyway.

I looked for job openings for about 3 hours this afternoon, sent off a couple of resumes. Went to Ace hardware for their $1 days. I got 2 butt buckets for DD, a dish soap, a eyeglass repair kit, and 150 count box of Kleenex. I had a $5 rewards card, and spent 54 cents total. The kleenex kept ringing up .29 ea instead of $1, and I told them I would take all they had. lol....I was a good sport and waited while they fixed the scanner. We had a good giggle over it. Then off to the grocery. Glad to be back home, it is really hot out today, now it looks like is going to rain. Yea!! Gave Buffy some fresh water and a hug, now I am inside on the computer. Sounds like it could be thyroid. On the other hand, I have my thyroid checked every six months now that I take thyroid supplements, (it's fine) and my immune system was crap this winter even though I did every thing imaginable. As for herbs and vitamins, be careful. You may be taking a placebo, very difficult to determine if the active ingredient in the supplement is actually present. Most of the time I doubt it. Would be best to grow your own, but even then, chemical composition varies. With vitamins, it is whether your body can even absorb what you are taking, many things cancel each other out, like asprin/acetominophin and vit. C, for just one example. Calcium and iron for another. Same with foods, vitamin content can drop dramatically when they've bee sitting around or upon cutting them open, etc. Other than what has been mentioned, (hydration, CLEAN humidifier, hand washing, etc.) with the cautionary note about "caveat emptor" (know your sources, freshness, interactions, etc.) another supplement I have had good luck with is lysine. Lastly, lots of sleep, a diet RICH in whole foods, lots of fruits and vegetables, and SOUP. I don't know if soup makes the vitamins in the ingredients extra absorbable or what, but soup along with other hot liquids helped me finally expel the last of the flu lingering in my lungs. I got a flu shot but it didn't stop the flu from laying me low for two months. Vit. D helps too during the low sunshine times, but it is tricky to get it absorbed. Stay away from alcohol.

I have spent the last 5 days on Coronado Island in San Diego. I attended a womens conference celebrating the Divine Goddess in all of us women. This is my 3rd year doing it. It has been a very quiet and restfull weekend and I loved it. I am on my way home today after I go to my Ayurvedic counselor for a Vedic Astrology reading;) My first I am excited to see what she says.

I read the 'Red Tent' while I was here, all about women, loving and helping other women~~as they go from girls to women, as they birth and as they die~~

Marilyn Sue, not as exciting as your day. What a gift to have new babies and family. We are out running errands today. Don't pick up the grands from the bus stop today, so have lots of time for running . Some groceries, returns, and haircuts. Just the same old, same old.

I don't think any of us can hold a candle to Marilyn Sue's first visit with her new great-grandson! (I think this is the first boy in her family for quite some time?)

I'm back from having stitches removed from my oral surgery Dec. 2. (Yow! I should have let him numb the gum; it's still feeling 'angry'.)

I found a pair of b.o.c. lace-up shoes with metal shank in size 8 at Carson's, but have also ordered a pair from DSW in size 8.5. DSW will ship to my house, free. I'll have to take the 'wrong' ones back, but neither store is that far away.

I spied a gigantic Jewel grocery store along our route. Yes! They had the Melitta Columbian coffee I haven't been able to buy for six months.

Time for lunch. (Nothing as good as Marilyn Sue's "picnic w/Baby".)

Went to Bible study and so many people needed prayers for illnesses and surgery etc. Did not stay for lunch this time- Just some things I have to work thru with certain people. Got some of Dale's jackets and sweaters to give to a Pastor that servers the homeless in Williston. With all the money and jobs and high prices in the oil reagion, we were given the report that 68 people were homeless and that is sad for that area.
Other than that, not much

I went to the local hospital to pre-register DH for cat scan in the morning. He has been suffering all weekend with back pain. He was to the doctor yesterday for evaluation and medicine but is not feeling much better at all. Because of the miscommunication between the doctor's office and the hospital, I feel as if I have been running around in circles. Maybe the actual procedure tomorrow will work out a little smoother.

Put finishing touches on Christmas decorations, cleaned and am now heading out to pick up DH's jacket at the cleaners. When I get home, I have some appetizers I need to make for tomorrow night.

I went to the Salvation Army Angel Tree center. Our club usually (even this year) builds up the bikes that are given away, but I couldn't participate cause I was with my grandkids that weekend.

Thus, today I went over, to help build up the bikes that came in late, and to help inspect the bikes still needing such, before they went to the box for the family they were assigned to.

Just got home.

Only got to go, cause school was out another day, this time because of mostly impassable neighborhood roads.

Our women's church group of ladies went to one of our town's nursing homes. We buy gifts for the patients to give to their family members. The each get to shop for gifts and we wrap them. What fun to see the smiles on their faces. They will have a party and give them their gifts on Thursday. Then we go do it again at the other home in town. It sure warms your heart.

Sue, have a wonderful visit with your new great grandson.

I went to work. Then visited my mother tonight. Now enjoying some down time on the computer and watching Wheel of Fortune (while waiting for my preferred Jeopardy).

I went to work. We had our office Christmas potluck & chili cook off today. After work I ran a couple of errands. Now I'm eating dinner, which I thankfully had in the crock pot.

Today was supposed to be a sisters shopping day, but the snow started early so we postponed.
It was very productive day for me though...made cinnamon rolls, bread, candied pecans, and ham and bean soup.
Did 2 loads of laundry and all the bed clothes.
Shoveled the driveway, carried some wood to the house, re-caulked the shower, and wrapped some Christmas presents (about 6 more to go)
I am sure I'll sleep well tonight. Thankfully the mess I made cooking and wrapping is all cleaned up!
