Anyone wake up with sore neck.? Need pillow advise.

I am asking this for my SIL who always wakes up in the morning with a sore neck.He had some back surgery a few years ago and he has no problem with his back only his neck. He has tried various pillows and so far he has not found a good one.

Can anyone recommend a pillow for him to try.

I find a contour memory foam pillow is the best for me when I have a bad neck. I don't remember what brand mine is, but in general you get what you pay for. A good pillow is certainly worth the investment, though!

I got a Perfect Pillow at JCPenney several years ago. Haven't had a sore neck since.

Oh, KitchenDetective, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I had to have my rottie girl euthanized in January after a long bout with cancer. I was devastated even though I had plenty of time to prepare.. and it's only very recently that my other dog has settled into the loss. I wanted to share my experiences because like you, my other dog is a lab and a rescue. I think those two things affect how a pet will respond-- labs are so incredibly social and sensitive to their "pack". My situation was compounded a bit by the fact that Beau, my lab, is very old and deaf. I had no idea how much Grace had assisted him in interacting with his world. They both always greeted me at the door-- but without Grace, Beau doesn't know when I arrive. He doesn't know when I call him for dinner or to go out. While in the old days he used to follow me around the house and be bonded to me, when I adopted Grace, they were much more bonded to each other. The good news is that now, 6 months later, he has become more focused and sensitive to my movements again and we are learning to work together despite the fact that he is deaf. Some of the things I did to help us both get past the grieving was to change some of our routines. Beau was my first dog and we were very well bonded but when Grace came into the picture the two of them were attached at the hip-- not that I was on the outside or unbonded but they definitely had thier own bond. I have spent a lot of time bonding with him again but in new ways (partially because he is now 16-17 yo). He won't go near where they used to sleep (they slept side by side) so I have taken that as a sign that he needed to change things up. I feed him at different times now and in a different spot.. our play is different.. and we walk, relax and bond differently and, of course, more frequently. I didnt share Grace's ashes with Beau-- it was clear to him that she was sick and he knew when she was gone. I don't know if it would have helped.. others in my life have been urging me to adopt another dog or a cat but I just don't have the heart for that right now. Beau is very old for a lab and I know my next loss will be even harder for me to handle. I question myself sometimes..because I DO think he'd do much better with another animal in the house. I don't know if that is an option for you, but it is something to consider. All I can say to you is to read your dog.. and to do what feels right for you, your family and him. My heartfelt hugs to you. I know this is a very hard time for you. I know nothing will make it better for you but I hope you find comfort in knowing there are others who understand your pain.

Anyone Dislike Their Memory Foam Mattress?

Well, I'd be more worried about finding a replacement I love than getting rid of one I didn't, lol. I did buy a really nice mail order pure natural organic latex mattress that is really comfy. Firm on one side and a bit softer on the other, but neither is really soft like a memory foam or gel one is. Let me see if I can figure out the brand and will let you know. The first one they sent was an undersized queen and they promptly replaced it. The second one is better but they are not generous in their measurements. It's in a guest room and everyone seems to like it. I'll come back and post the name when I find it. eta: that was easy, it is Zenhaven. They have the Zenhaven and the Saatva hybrid; I got the Zenhaven. It is flippable, so should last almost a lifetime. The last pure latex mattress I had lasted 40 years, lol. Zenhaven

'permenant crick' in my neck?

I started out a couple weeks ago with what i thought was a crick in my neck.Then it got so i couldn't turn my head and kept getting shooting pains up into my head and down into my back and shoulders.After about 5 days of this agony,i finally went to the dr,had xrays taken and was diagnosed with degenerative disk disease and muscle spasms.He put me on a week of steroids and a muscle relaxant. I can turn my head now,but i still have pain as the day wears on,depending on what i'm doing of course. Ya know back in the dark ages when i was in school,we didn't have backpacks,or back problems.We carried our books with the notebook on the bottom and all the other books stacked on top of it then carried it across our bodies,kinda like hugging yourself.Or if you only had say 2 books and the notebook you could carry it down by your side. I got a small neck pillow filled with buckwheat hulls at a store with Japanese products. This has served me well.

It conforms to the contours of your neck and shoulders as you shift around, and yet the buckwheat hulls pack together to give support.

I have been using a buckwheat hull (Soba) pillow for the past 11 years.
We went to visit DS in Japan and he had them. I used to have a very painful neck after sleeping on a regular pillow until I used the buckwheat hull one.
They take a little getting used to because they sort of "crunch" when you turn over.

Lois, is he a side, back, or tummy sleeper?

I used to be a tummy sleeper, then the neck pains started. Found out, by eliminating sleeping on my tummy, no more neck pains.

I need a new pillow also. That one is kinda pricey. A friend of mine buys her DH a bolster pillow, thats all he uses. Glenda has one she likes, ask her about it.

The Chiropractor in town sells water pillows. They can be filled to fit the owner. They are very heavy with an outer layer of fabric and so nice to lay on. I only had a chance to use one for two weeks before returning it. I noticed it wasn't cold and ALWAYS retained its shape which is great for my arthritic neck. I'm hoping my family gets me one for Christmas and if they don't I'll be there next week! $45 bucks.

I bet you can find the soba pillows cheaper....that is just the first site I found.
I love my soba pillows so much I take them with me everywhere.
We bought four of them last time we were in Japan....they were on sale.
I do wash mine in the washing machine and then toss them in the dryer....but it takes forever for them to dry.

I found some soba pillows through Amazon for around $20.
You can read the reviews and see what you think.
My pillows are small but I don't find that a problem.
I hope you find something that will help.

I've found the best pillow for me isn't a pillow. I use a good sized towel. I can crunch it up as firm or soft as I want, make it as thick or thin as I want, easy to wash, and if it's chilly flip part of it over my head or even shoulders to keep warmer. It really works great.

I loved my buckwheat pillows... until I left them both at different hotels.! darn! And they don't sell them locally anymore. I WANT ANOTHER! I LOVE IT!
