Missing Our Moms on Christmas

Sue and I met in school in 1963, sixth grade, and we've been best friends ever since. In August 2010 we both attended our 40th High School Reunion in our hometown, Clarence NY (near Buffalo). We stopped by her Mom's house and I briefly chatted with Sue's Mom, whom I've known for ages. In October 2010 Sue's Mom passed away; my own Mother went to Heaven January 15 2011. Shortly before Christmas last year, I called my Mom to say I was baking Christmas cookies but I couldn't find those silver balls for decorating. Several days later I got a package in the mail-it was all of Mom's cookie decorating supplies, all her colored sugars, sprinkles, and those elusive silver balls. My Mom entered the hospital Christmas Eve 2010,was treated for pneumonia and released January 13, but passed on January 15th. I phoned Sue yesterday, she had been baking Christmas cookies in her Mom's old kitchen. We discussed our cookie baking. I somehow felt very close to my Mom when doing my decorating with "her" supplies. I felt she had passed them on to me. Sue said she looked in her Mom's freezer and had found batches of Christmas cookies her Mom she had baked and frozen for Christmas 2009, her last time. Sue said she defrosted a few cookies and they still taste good. So we commiserated over our stories of our Moms and Christmas cookie baking. God Bless All Mothers Everywhere, living and passed on. We love you and miss you.
