sick now?!

I was off work the two days before, and Christmas day.
Christmas morning, I woke with a sore throat and chest tightness...not really congestion, cuz I was a coughing fool, but nothing coming up.

HAD to go to work yesterday, or I'd not get much of a paycheck. Not feeling any better today, but off I go again. This had been going around, and at least I didn't get it as bad as some at work.

I wish I could stay home. I hate spreading germs! Wish those who'd come down with it first had stayed home too!

It will be all about washing my hands a hundred times, and staying out of people's faces.

You are not alone. I woke up at 2 am on the 26th with chest congestion. This morning I am running a slight fever, so I am on the couch watching cartoons.....my rib cage hurts from coughing.

Advil, musinex and robitusin are my friends.

I was sick with a cold for about a week. It started with a sore throat, progressed to cough and chest congestion. I spent about three straight days in bed. Lots of fluids. I'm much better now, these things mostly have to run their course.

I have a circular driveway and in the island we have blueberry bushes. I have fought with the oh so tame deer for a couple years that like to eat the leaves. I did not want to fence it off as it is in the front and would look unsightly and the solution I came up with is a device called a scarecrow. It is a motion and heat activated sprinkler. Deer gets too close it sets off a 3 second blast at them from the sprinkler. It scares the deer to death and has completely solved the problem as they avoid the bed completely now. Old topic but wanted to share my input. I'm growing hydroponic tomatoes (various strains) at university in a lab setting (indoors under HID lights) and outdoors in a greenhouse. In one of my greenhouse NFT systems, i recently had a similar problem on 1 tomato plant (total 9 plants that share the same res and tubes). But im gonna try to diagnose your issue by mentioning what others missed out on. 1 major cause of leaf curl is compaction of root system (i.e. roots are compressed or dont have enough space to expand). This risk is exacerbated in hydroponic systems that use tubes. This was the problem i had and had to replace tubes with square tubings that have a liftable top. Once you have access to roots, you must seperate them strand by strand (i.e. so they arent sticking together). In your setup, this risk will further be exacerbated because you filled the entire pvc tube with hydroton (right?). Remove hydroton from tube and place the plant in a net cup with hydroton. Nitrogen burns usually cause browning/yellowing of leaves (similar to sun/heat burn) and not purpling. Test your solution for each chemical if possible, or use a commonly employed aggregated measuring device that shows total concentration in ppm (dont let it exceed 2500). In my system, only one plant was affected. Coincidentally, it was the largest of all plants with the most root mass. I let another normal one grow to its size to see whether it would undergo the same problem, and it did. Viral and bacterial infections that cause leaf roll usually cause it to roll up. Same with the physiological roll. If your leafs roll down AND if your stems bend, this is caused by a diminishing turgor pressure (read: not enough water reaching afflicted area). Mist several times when lights are off (no photosysnthesis) and observe increasing turgor pressure (unbending). Or, untangle roots and remove hydroton from from pipes. I tested various growing methods including fully and partially submerged roots. They all work but a submerged root cannot intake oxygen; it has to borrow oxygen from another part of the plant (i.e. a root part that isnt submerged or above ground stem). This requires energy for transportion and isnt the most efficient (optimal) way for growth and cellular processes. Lastly, an airstone in the reservoir is useless unless the reservoir is completely airtight all the way up to the plant holes. Better to keep small airstones in the pipes right under the plant roots. Those that say aerating the res prevents bacterial development.. is false. If you dont have air in res, you will get anaerobic bacteria (they grow/accumulate slowly but acidify the solution); if you have air in res, you get aerobic bacteria (not acidifying but grow extremely fast). Most bacteria prefer aerobic environments for optimum growth.

Yes, sick feeling. I installed a new $650 double door set, the last arrival and final thing to secure my new build only to discover next morning that a mouse trapped inside had riddled the weather stripping in an attempt to escape. The house has developed other flaws in the last 5 years but I am still very grateful to have it. Hope a spirit of acceptance will gradually develop.

Working and being around all sorts of people from all sections of your community or city, kept your immune system on it's toes. It's a marvelous system. You were coming into a constant stream of germs everyday. Once you retire and see only a few people, it gets a little lazy so that when you do bump into something from outside your usual environment, it hits you hard. Of course, we are getting older and our immune systems are not as good as they once were. That makes a difference too. When I first started babysitting for children that live on the other side of town, I usually got a sore throat and/or a cold. I NEVER get one otherwise. I think it must be that they were bringing home germs that they are used to but were new to me. Now, several months later, I seem to have gotten used to them too.

I had it too; started over Thanksgiving weekend. Probably would've been gone a lot sooner, but I don't tend to rest & take care of myself.

Be careful of Robitusson. Don't take the "DM" stuff. It can really raise your blood pressure!

All of us were sick except my older son. My first grad grandson caught something at school and shared it will all of us. His poor parents caught it twice. Vomiting, diarrhea, exhaustion. I hope we have finally turned the corner. I fixed Christmas dinner and then couldn't eat it. My sister and BIL could not risk coming for the usual holiday. Then we cancelled dinner at our favorite place for tonight so that my visitng younger son could see his uncle and family.

Mine is still with me. It started right after we got home from Thanksgiving, sore throat then to sinusitis and bronchitis. I have coughed so much I lost my voice beginning of last week and I still don't have a voice, it's really getting old. I have been through 2 rounds of different antibiotics and it's not gone. I swear my ribs are cracked from the coughing. I should have brought stock in kleenex.
I am on so many immune suppressing meds that I have a very difficult time kicking any kind of bug.
I am just praying it doesn't turn into pneumonia. We head back home tomorrow morning and I am happy about that, I am going back to the doctor ASAP.

I feel like I should wash my hands after reading this thread. I am so sorry so many of you are not feeling well. So far I have managed to dodge any illnesses but back in the days when I was working and doing a lot of shopping I would get sick every Christmas. Exposure to too many germs and exhaustion will get you every time.

Wear a big, face-covering mask to work - maybe the boss'll get the message.

Thankful to have dodged the bullet - thus far, at least.

(If you go to the "can" to wash your hands too often ...

I also got the 'creeping crud' on Xmas afternoon. I ate a small bit of my son's dinner-came home & was in the bathroom from 5pm to midnight-on the 'throne' as well as the wastecan in front of me as I was vomiting at the same time! Totally exhausted today-never even got dressed but felt good enough to eat tonight! (I'll probably pay for it later but I made my Xmas gift from a friend..a 1 and 1/2 pound Lobster tail.)..Yummy-eating it NOW!

I bought a large size box of the ear loop masks before we left home. And kept a bottle of hand sanitizer hooked on my purse and one in my pocket plus I washed my hands every time I entered and left the places we went to. I told my family we would cancel our Christmas vacation to prevent this from possible spread but was told no way. I know this crud is around everywhere and in the air right now but I really don't like thinking anyone might get sick from my visit. I tried to take as many precautions as possible. I somewhat isolated the 2 of us from the others when possible. Being able to stay in our own RV helped too.
I am sure glad we didn't get the vomiting and diarrhea kind!

I just read an article that said studies have shown that taking a small sip of strong spirits can stop a bad cough! I am not a drinker but I sure was eyeing the liquor store tonight! I might have to test that claim. I am afraid that would be as bad as drinking the cough syrup.

For those with a bad cough I have found something that has helped me a bit. And it tastes very good. It is for children and is found in the kids area of medicines. By Mucinex called mini melts they are for cough and congestion so contain Guaifenesin and Dextromethorphan. They are orange creme flavor much like the ice cream dreamsicle. They are little tubes of granules you pour into your mouth. Like Kool aid straws. They are very good. I would be careful with kids because these are just like candy. Easy to get them to take it but they might want more.
They are very easy to carry in my purse. I like it better than cough drops.
