Change of atttitude
Another post that I read, about relatives we like/dislike, made me think about my bro-in-law. For years, I tried to avoid him, even when he visited us. I would eat in my room and let him and hubs visit over the meal. One reason is he and I are polar opposites, politically, and once in a while, he would hit a nerve and we would get in an argument. Also he was a deer hunter and we all know how I feel about that. Now, he is a millionaire and remarked one year after killing a deer, now he would have meat for the winter., and Please, I'm just making a statement about why he wasn't my fave relative, not about hunting. Then I found out about how he has helped some down and out kin who, because of medical issues, and no insurance were about to lose their house. He brought their payments up to date, and made a few ahead, so they could get on their feet. They are doing fine now, thanks to Loyd. I've heard how he quietly helped other kin, knowing full well he wouldn't get paid back. What I'm trying to say in a long winded way, is after hearing about his generous heart, I can over look his other issues. I feel nothing but love and admiration for him. When he starts in on politics, I just smile and say that I'm not going to discuss this because we both already know we won't agree. He just smiles and says, your right.
I even feel better, not having that dislike and bitterness inside me. He was here yesterday and we had a real nice visit. Loyd is 83 and I was so sad to see how he has aged just since we saw him last, about 4 months ago. He doesn't drive this long way anymore about 150 miles or so, he gets a great niece to do the driving.
Have any of you had a similar experience about relative or friends?
