So Proud of My Niece

My niece Jessica is a beautiful, talented girl. After college, she took a job at a local radio sttion selling advertising time. Last month she organized a charity event, all by herself, to raise funds for The Special Olympics. It was one of those polar-bear-plunges into chilly Lake Erie, right after Thanksgiving. They made over $110,000. I am so proud of her!

Thanks, everyone! The 1/2 was DH's idea so he gets the credit. I am in the Dallas area and this fall is really nice. Mommytoty, we had the same concerns. Google Solo Pet Doors. A little magnet goes on your pet's collars so it only opens for your pet. You can adjust the sensitivity, both how close your pet has to get to the door and how long it stays open. Also, it is a pulley system. Some others are motorized and can come down on your pet and do harm. If this comes down it's just the weight of the plexiglass door, so not much. We had one in our old home for 4 yrs without any problems. I highly recommend it. The only downside is that they are pricey. In our last home I had it in the wall in the closet in the bonus room. An untraditional place, but it was nice that it was out of the way and I could close the closet door and totally have it hidden. We downsized so no bonus room in the new house. If you decide to get one think about all the different places it would work for your lifestyle.

Orubis...You have no idea how timely your post is! The gutters are going in on Tuesday followed by French drains on Wednesday. :o) We don't have gutters on our current house (never needed them), but the new house is a whole different story. We realized after the first heavy rain that they'd be neccessary. It's been pouring rain for 2 days and there are trenches where it's coming off the house. The puddles are turning into lakes. *sigh* Since we're on the subject of gutters, we were amazed at the variance in bids that we got for them. We need 141 LF and 10 downspouts with a few miters. We had 4 bids that were between 800-900, 1 for 1700, and another for 2700!!! I think that guy's method of bidding a job was to see how much he owed in bills that month. LOL

You should be proud! I've had that same sort of conversation with my Mom. She stays at my house occasionally, and loves my dogs. I keep telling her she should find a small dog to adopt, a middle-aged dog, not a puppy. She says she's not home enough .. and I point out that I work full time! She then comments on how quiet they are, and that they sleep alot. Still haven't convinced her to adopt yet ...

Yes, she ran into the lake also. Her female cousin was supposed to be her partner, but dropped out at the last minute. Jessie went in alone and her "team" earned $1000.

Good for her!

Our neighbor's son has Autism which affects his learning and communication, but his physical coordination is very good.

He is so proud of the medals he was able to win in the The Special Olympics two years ago.

I think it is a great place for her. Plenty of exposure and opporunity to do things that would be impossible otherwise Congrats !!
