Don't go to work sick. You'll only feel bad and expose everyone else to this nasty virus. Go home, get to bed, try to sip something liquid. Whatever appeals to you, lemonade, eater, avoid fruit juices and milk. You'll feel better in a few hours, hope you feel better soon!

Sorry you are so sick. Sooey had good advice...make sure you tell the doctor everything that is going on with you, as you never know what is a symptom of something else. (Maybe I watch too much "House"?) :0)

Also, please get a note from the clinic. I manage people, and this dots the "i's" and crosses the "t's" for you.

I'm glad you're going to Urgent Care, but I'm so sorry you're feeling so awful. This won't take the place of your Friday appointment with the doctor, will it? I hope you soon feel better and that you find out what's causing your health problems. Sending tons of good wishes your way!

Is anyone else appalled that a person in this country can fear for her job because she needs to stay home due to severe illness???! When you are feeling better, Nikki, contact your state Labor Board if you have the feeling your job is in jeopardy. And please, tell the doctor you see today about the terrible headache you've been having and how long you've had it. Hope you're feeling better very soon.

Thanks so much to all of you for bein here for me. You don't know how much your support means to me.

I went there and told them everything. But, seems to me, after talking to the Dr. and telling him that I already had an appt to be seen for the headaches this coming Monday, that he saw the other symptoms and already knew it was the flu and left it at that. I told him I tried to go to work this morning and I just.. well, seriously could not function.. at all and I asked him if he's ever known of a flu lasting this long because I've never missed this many days of work in a row. He said that this year's strain seems to be leaning towards 4 or 5 days of "down time" and that he's seen about 15 people so far this week with the same thing. He gave me a prescription for Phenergan and wrote me off of work until Friday. He wanted to write me off till Monday, but I told him I had to get back as soon as possible. My boss has been very nice about the whole thing. I called and told her about everything and that if I felt better I would try to come in tomorrow.. she said "no, stay home and rest and get better, I've got you covered". That made me feel better about not being able to be there.

This flu has totally kicked my behind let me tell ya and on top of it, I STILL have this pounding pain behind my eye which is still scaring the crap out of me.

I'm so sorry for whining. I'm stopping now, I promise.

I'm glad you are going to the doctor and hope you feel better soon. Your main job right now is to look after your own health. Get notes to support your going to the doctor and not faking illness just in case you need them for your job. Please let us know how you make out.

I have a dear friend that had a bad headache behind her eye...then she started throwing up thought it was just the flu....Her husband found her on the bathroom floor...she had a brain anyurism (sp) she will never be the same!!!!
she walks with a walker, her speech is slurred, she has to have help with everything she does...

nanacherie, I've made the decision that if I cannot get into see my Dr. tomorrow instead of Monday that I will be in the emergency room tomorrow. The pain has seriously gotten worse and to be honest, all I can think about is the same exact thing you just mentioned. Things seem to be "snowballing" on me and I'm seriously having a really hard time bein strong. Times like these are when I wish I had somebody to hold me. My oldest (who is 11) knows a little about what is going on and she tries to be my counselor.. she's sooo sweet. But I keep telling her that is not her job, I will be fine. I'm pretty pathetic, huh?

Really, Nicki, is there someone who can take you to the ER now??? You've just got to get this checked out and you're playing Russian Roulette--the pain is TELLING you something. Call a cab if you need to, but please GO!

Nicki, how is your vision? Do you have your peripheral vision? Do you have a blind spot? Is there a friend or perhaps your daughter who can hold a pencil off to the side and move it slowly towards your front until you can see it? If you can't see it until it's in front of you, there's a problem.

Something isn't right and I hope you find out what's going on really soon.

Oops, me and my armchair medical degree gave the wrong description of testing for peripheral vision...duh!

Here's what the real doctors do....
"The simplest way to test peripheral vision is for a doctor to face the person and gradually move a finger in toward the center of vision from above, below, left, and right. The person tells the doctor when the moving finger is first detected. The person must fix his vision on the doctor's face (and not look for the finger) for the result of the test to be valid. The eye not being tested is closed."

I think that you have the 4-day stomach flu. Both my wife came down with at the end of September - can't keep anything down - Have to be careful how much water you drink at one time. I was very sick for 3 days, then began to recover. Lost 5 lbs. And I had a flu shot 3 weeks before this flu. Apparently, its a much different flu than the ones the shots are for.

By all means, do go to the doctor. If your boss gives you a hard time, ask him if he'd rather you'd come in and Urp! all over his desk! and expose everybody. A note from the doctor's office will verify how sick you are. In fact, if you call the doctor before going in and describe your symptoms, the doctor may advise not to come to his office.

If its the same stuff that made the rounds in my neck of the woods, the gestation period between exposure and getting sick is 4 to 5 days.

Your ability to "think straight" diminishes as you become dehydrated, and you'll become dehydrated if its the same thing I had.
