When you forget what it means, what do you do?

I found a little notebook in my desk drawer. It has a few entries I have no idea about at this time. Don't remember writing them, but it is clearly my handwriting.

This is disturbing to me. Getting forgetful??? Yep, I am.

There is a couple in Claremore, whose address I have, but I have NO IDEA who they are...

And why would I have corner, Verda, Gregg and Susan, Allyson and Jessica, along with Connie written down?

I sure have to make better notes..... or my future will be more puzzling.

I've been known to be unable to read my own handwriting. Is that a 6 or an 8? And whose phone number is that?

Hey; I was reading this new organic gardening book I got the other day. They had pictures of a melon box with trellis from China, circa 1970s. You could probably easily modify it to protect the melons from the monkeys. (did I just write that... LOL) Basically there is a 2x2x2 box filled with rich soil, Mel's Mix in SFG case. Next they build a four post frame over it with 4x4x8 is what it looks like with the box centered under it. Then across the frame at the top they had a couple more horizontal supports of wood and dropped strings down from there so that the vines could grow up them. I think if you wrapped chicken wire around the whole thing it would keep the monkeys out. They recommended using slings to support the fruit so it doesn't drop prematurely. Plus, you'll have to put door(s) into it so you can get at the vines to work them a little, or you could make separate frames of chicken-wire and fasten them to the vertical poles, so you can just take them off when you need too. I tried to think about what bothers me about different rooms and if a solution might be part of the remodeling. For example, we have a very cold bathroom in winter that results in most of the family taking showers in the warmer one. So, first I thought about an in-floor heating mat. Then, talking with the electrician resulted in the decision to add a toe kick heater under the vanity which can be regulated by a wall thermostat. A wall heater or towel heater wouldn't have worked for our situation. So, my learning has been to talk to both GC and the trades people about challenges and be open to their ideas. I don't expect myself or anyone person to always have all the answers.

OakIris, I have plants coming out the kazoo this year and was planning to pot some of them up to bring to the swap after I got home from my trip, but since I'll be out of town until after the swap this time, that won't be happening. But, I did just look and in 2012 I actually took the time to collect some seed, and I'll do my best to remember to send a little packet of them along with Barb for you. When you get them I need to warn you that most of what you see in the baggie will be chaff! The actual seeds are the hard little black things!!! When I collected them there were a whole lot of them that had gone to seed, so I just cut the whole plants off at the bottom and stuck them in a bag and left them sit to dry completely for a month or two. When I got around to it I just SHOOK the bag really well, and since everything was SO dry, a lot of "plant debris" came off along with the seeds! What I recommend you do with them is to wait till late summer or early fall, then "rough up" the soil in a couple small places, take a BIG pinch of "seeds" (the stuff in the baggie!) and scatter it in each of the places you've "roughed up." Then rub your hand over the soil where you scattered the seeds to "mix them in" just a little bit, and then clearly mark where you planted them 'cause they kind of look like weeds when they first come up and otherwise you might decide to pull them out when you see them and then think the seed I gave you was no good!!! ;-) Depending on the weather, some of them will probably come up before winter gets really cold, and then more will come up in spring. Any that come up will bloom next summer! And once you get a couple that bloom--you'll never get rid of them again! In this case, I don't consider that to be a bad thing! When they start to drop seeds you can either scatter some of it in other places where you want them--or you can just let them do their own thing and they'll wind up coming up all over the place anyway in a couple years! After any individual plant blooms it's gonna look REALLY ratty, and there's no way to make it look "good" again, so once you know for sure they've dropped some seed, I recommend just pulling the "old" plants out (I cut them off at the top of the soil, leaving the roots in the soil to decompose!). Since, once they drop seed, you'll ALWAYS have more, there's no need to try to "save" the old ones. If you have any other questions, I might not be back to answer them till after I get home after my trip. I'm crazy busy trying to get ready to go, and now something "legal" came up that's gonna take a bunch of the time I already don't have! Have fun at the swap, and enjoy your forget-me-nots next spring, Skybird Edited to add: After you sow the seed it would be a really good idea to mulch that area with some sort of "wood mulch" to help keep the surface of the soil moist. If you already mulch, just do whatever you normally do! Edited a second time to add: Mine are just starting to bloom! And my Brunnera 'Looking Glass' is in full bloom too! Love that BLUE!

That’s just it, as horrible as this sounds it obviously wasn’t a priority with me and it isn’t for me to get together anytime soon. Life is hectic and emotionally charged right now and will be in the future for an undetermined amount of time so getting together would heavily depend on how and when things unfold over here as well as her schedule, of course. It’s more than adding a new baby and she’s aware of some of it. Add into the mix that we also live pretty far away. I can count my close friends on one hand. The list hasn’t changed since I was a kid. Everyone else falls into an outside category. I’m good with this btw. I realistically don’t have the time or desire to dedicate adding more people to that close knit group. I truly believe this person and I have each other in the same friend category so that helps a little, but it still doesn’t mean I wanted to forget a birthday hello. She's a sweet person and due to past conversations I know she really appreciates this type of thing; probably more than me. She normally sends me a card and a text. This year I got a quick text and that was fine. It was nice. I don’t use my phone or email for reminders. Not making an excuse I just never found the need before to use those features. I’ve always been pretty good at remembering birthdays. I will take the time to set it up now. May – I have a handheld calendar and failed to write it in even though I know the date. ACTUALLY I did give my Grammy a birthday gift about a week before (it made sense to do so in this case) and we talked about the day and if she had plans, etc. Still wanted to make a point to call on the actual day. Tibb – I have some friends who are single that have noted feeling ‘forgotten’ and some that don’t. Generally, my married friends invite me over for dinner and it usually begins with, "DH is out of town or has a late business meeting tonight. Want to come over for dinner, or go out for dinner?" That kind of thing. I can't have dinner with my friend and her husband, many of whom I am friendly with and know well as well?....I’m certainly old enough (and moral enough!) to not be a threat to any married woman friend! Interesting. I've never looked at it from this angle. I setup and say similar stuff not for pity but because my thought is why would you want to hang out with me and my husband, at least not every time. Especially if we were the ones originally friends which is usually the case for me. I'd much prefer to hang out with just the person I’m primarily friends with vs. the whole family. I also take this approach with getting a babysitter for my DS for the same reasons. I thought it inconsiderate not to do this. I've always looked at it like a good thing! At this point I think I’ll try and find a nice belated card and write a little something. I have no problem owning that I screwed up and I won’t lie about it. I just was trying to think of the best way to handle it without adding more insult. And I would like to get together just at a later date. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Yes don't hope for improvement, it gets worse. I too find notes that I have no memory of and numbers for who knows! Yep start now taking more dtailed notes, and label all numbers, not a guarantee, but it can't hurt.

The other thing to start doing is make a note booK write down Where you put stuff, especially any thing important. I once had an incredible memory,photographic when I was younger in schooland college, well let me tell you it doesn't last forever! We can not find things we bought a week ago. So seriouslystart now keeping that journal,you will be thankful one day.

I had this happen to me last Saturday. I was going to Pierre shopping and I had a list of about 6 things. Of course the things I should have bought weren't on it. So I get to WM and I have trees written on it. I could not figure out what that meant. I knew I wasn't going to buy a tree and the only other trees I could think of were the Little Debbie ones. I wasn't going to buy them either. I had asked my DH if there was anything he wanted me to buy and he said just eggs. So I call him and ask him why I had trees on my list and right when I said it I remember why. I wanted to go to the State Capitol and see live decorated Christmas Trees on display. Boy did I feel stupid and I had just written that that morning. I know how you feel.

I've lost the same pair of leather gloves twice in five days. I left them in the shopping cart at the grocery store on Tuesday. I called; they had them. I picked them up Thursday.

Friday I had an appointment with a surgeon and left the gloves on a chair in the waiting room when they called me for my appointment. I was walking toward my car when I realized I didn't have my gloves. The clerk at the registration desk said someone had turned my gloves in to her, but...strangely, she couldn't find them back there behind the desk. I'm guessing a cleaner came through and 'liberated' my gloves. I'm more disappointed in the kindness of strangers than I am sorry about the loss.

I shouldn't be allowed out alone. LOL

I got myself a day planner about 15 years ago, just to get in the habit of writing stuff down. That way, I am able to look it up later.

Works great overall, but that darn small notebook... I wish, I knew why I had that stuff written down.

I find notes all the time that I wrote and can't for the life of me remember what they meant. Your not alone.

Oh I make notes to myself all the time. Work related and on my DESK at work. And I forget what they mean. I've started writing essays instead of notes. LOL!

i can imagine with all your lovely biking adventures you've met your fair share of people who you thought i'd love to communicate with them again and then find the list but havn't a clue who they are...

Words, numbers, phone numbers with single letters--or a name and number--or call this Tue with a number- I have a ton of sticky notes that are so interesting.

I once bought fancy wedding paper for a gift for my nephew. Laid down the bag somewhere, couldn't find it. So I had to buy more paper. Never found the original bag-I must have thrown it out by mistake. My SIL was cleaning up after Christmas and somehow threw out her jewelry box. She said she was more upset because it contained personal treasures, baby photos of her kids and a watch her parents gave her, than about her actual jewelry. Would you believe she filed an insurance claim and got some money for it? I'm not sure of the details.

I lost my favorite LLBean cap I'd wear in the summer when it was humid out. I always took it off in the kitchen ,and it plain disappeared. It will show up in some really stupid place some day. My memory or lack of it scares me a lot. I remember my mother forgetting things and worry I'll be like her. I'm already half way there.

Things are often disappearing from my house..an expensive, large covered skillet, a brand new airbed that was never blown up when all of my kids and grandkids came at the same time, and it wasn't small and was quite heavy. And most recently, 2 adjustable tongs that were in a drawer. The sad thing is that I am physically incapable of being the one who misplaced them! For daily things that I need to remember and passwords, etc., I am using a free program called Evernote. I haven't unleashed all that it can do but I like it so far. Also, I just switched from a pc to a Mac and there is an app called "Reminders" that I just finished putting in birthdays. I'm sure there is one for Windows. Of course, non of these will help you find your keys or lost gloves!

Don't forget to look in the refrigerator. I found my car keys there once. I'd set them down on a shelf when having to juggle to make space for a gallon of milk.

I am trying to learn not to leave my shopping list behind on a shelf while I'm shopping. (Did I set it down with the bananas or the green beans, beside the coffee cans...?) I'll know it is missing when I approach the checkout and have no coupons.

So happy that I am not alone. I have really been worried lately. I can have something in my hand one minute,then the next it is totally gone. My SIL sent me a book for my birhtday. I didn't want to tell her that I had already read it,and it was one of my favorites. She asked me how far I had gotten.So I started reading it,and it was completely new to me. The hardest thing is trying to remember words. I have to go to great lengths to describe to people what I am trying to think of. I have been told that it is Chemo Brain, but I am starting to think that it is more than that. This morning I got up early for a doctor appointment, got there and was told that it is not until tomorrow.When they called for the appointment, I went straight to the calender to write down the day and time. Had forgotten before I got to the calender.

This weekend I found a cute sundress (wrapped) I bought for a 6 month old...she just turned 2 yrs old in November!
I had to unwrap to even figure out what it was.
I must have bought more than one gift. I didnt even miss it until I found it!

Last week when I got ready to put my Christmas tree up, there was a note in the box. It was to me from me. It said 'Dear Susan, 1/2 strand of the bottom set of lights on this tree does not work. Before you go all Rambo on the poor tree and start using your outside voice saying not so lady like words, remember that the tree looks beautiful without them, you can't even tell that the are missing, so calm down and enjoy. Forever your friend, Susan.
Good thing I wrote myself a note. It saved the tree another tongue lashing

I have left my shopping list on the counter so many times that now I leave it in my purse. If I need to add to the list, I pull it out, write it down, and back in it goes. Of course, it didn't do me a lot of good when I left my list on a shelf SOMEWHERE in the store.

I left my car keys in Target once. Luckily I needed them to put my bags in the trunk and go home so they were still on the shelf where I had put them haha.

I have an address book with names, numbers, addresses, website, passwords, account numbers, etc. for us, each of our kids, one of my brothers. I told them all, if this place ever catches on fire, save that damn black book or we're all in trouble.

Moni, please do not worry. Mystery notes to, or about, mystery people is perfectly normal. Yes; normal! I do it myself, so it must be normal, right? Right!

I can related to nearly every "challenge" listed above, so everybody, repeat after me...

This year as I was "hiding" Christmas presents in the back of my closet before I wrapped them I found several presents I forgot to give my children last year, just like Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation. :(

We were having some break-ins in our area last year. I hid my Mom's crystal desk clock, took me 6 months to find it. I still can't find the holiday look bracelet I got to wear at Christmas. I've been looking for that. Someday it will turn up. I bought a little notebook once to write down where I hide things but-t-t you have to write in it. LOL
