It's so quiet :(

First, let me say thank you to Marilyn Sue for starting the "Hugs for Granlan" post. And my sincere thanks to all of you who understand and have sent hugs..I need them.

Even though my sweet Stash was never a large cat, this house is way too big and quiet without her. Wonder how long I'll miss her 'Good Mornings and Good Nights'? We develop such a daily routine with our kids, don't we, and it's such a precious part of their personalities.

Granlan, who has another special Angel. I'll love and miss you forever, my Stash girl.

(((Granlan))) I've been through this to many times.It gets better but not for awhile.Getting a new kitten would help. At least it always helped me to get a new baby to love.Doen't take the place of the one that passsed but it helps.Thinking of you!

Back to the catalogues! Unless I overlooked it, no one has mentioned John Scheepers (Van Engelen is their wholesale branch) in the US. They offer quite a few amarylli and I have always been really happy with the size and health of the bulbs. They also send me physical paper catalogues every year. I get my tulips from them, too. I assume they also have an online catalogue. I've been enjoying looking up some of everyone's favorites! Royal Colors is too expensive for me, though perhaps some day I will be more flush. Even so, a lot of their varieties also appear in Scheepers and Van Bourgondien. I got 'Exotic Peacock" last year from Van B. and loved it. Was surprised it was so good, as their tulips, etc. have not been in the past. Every year I splurge on one or two varieties, getting 6 of one to share with my family and friends at Christmas. "Ambience", "Dancing Queen" and "Elvas" so far have had the biggest raves from my family. Oh, also "Rosalie", who is a light salmon color. Very beautiful. This year everyone is getting "Double Record". My sister, Karen, particularly likes the picotee edges on things. Budding orchid grower - if you get your first ones at Trader Joe's (my biggest source, as they are cheap and have a lot of variety), check the root systems before buying, and if it is in spaghnum moss, I highly recommend immediate repotting in bark. The spaghnum tends to get soggy and salespeople I think overwater. I have bought a couple in the past with no living roots other than those that are reaching above the little plastic pot. If there are a lot of those, it's ok, once you repot with them in the bark. The oncidium relatives like smaller bark, and mixing that with perlite assures good drainage. I just found this site this winter and I've really enjoyed reading the posts in several different forums. My winter months are spent dreaming about what I can do in the garden next year and I've been finding lots of great ideas. I have always really enjoyed the birds and have become convinced that I need to plant many more natives. I just chopped down a small Norway Maple in our backyard yesterday--am thinking about a serviceberry in its place. I don't think I will ever be militant about planting natives only, but this site has certainly opened my eyes to many issues I was unaware of. I threw my bag of lawn "weed n' feed" in the garbage yesterday too. :) Kind of hurt, since the stuff isn't cheap, but I want to make better choices than I have in the past. Think I'll just get rid of the lawn entirely, instead ;D Keep posting everybody--I've really really enjoyed and benefited from reading many of these posts!

coolspot, I have seen many posts saying that in Canada Miele is way more expensive than others. OTOH, I think you have lower costs for Blomberg, LG and the BSH family (Bosch, Thermador, etc). All good. Measuring noise, and hearing noise is still quite subjective after all is said and done. A "deciBel" is a comparative scale -- it's not a "number" in a regular numbering system (called "absolute numbering"). Although they use instruments to measure noise, it's compared to a reference noise (and this gives dBA)... and a lot of other factors impinge on your feeling of noise so it's not as simple as just comparing a spec sheet and seeing one is at 48 dBA and another is at 54 dBA ..... can't bear to think about losing him. Time goes
so fast - seems he was just a fat little kitten.

Hugs to you and I'm going home to hug my cat too. Seems like I don't spend enough time with him. This is a reminder that they're only with us for what seems to be a short time.

I know exactly how you are feeling, granlan, my house still seems so quiet, and I am kind of dreading putting up the Christmss tree, cause Jazz and Rex would always sit under it. Like my little presents.

The holiday season is a strange time at pet shelters, I have learned. I went to one after the holidays once, and I couldn't believe the number of adult, pure bred, well cared for dogs especially were in their kennels. I asked the vet there what was going on, and she said that every Christmas their shelter fills up with family pet cast offs. People decide they want a new puppy for Christmas, and so they dump the family pet at the shelter so they can have a puppy for the kids under the tree. Just blew me away.

Anyhow, my advice is to contact your local shelter soon and visit to see if you find someone there who needs to come home with you.

I'm sorry you are so sad
I know the feeling of the empty quiet house and the "hole" in the heart. I've been there so many times too.
Maybe a new kitty would help? Like chubby_rat says, it won't replace Stash, but will make you smile!
