Good luck. I took that test when I was pregnant and I hated it. I failed but not by that much. I felt really horrible after drinking that stuff but the bad feeling didn't last long. I didn't mind the needles nearly as much as drinking that liquid.

I felt fine when it was over.

One woman cheated. They were hounding her to finish it and she walked out (not allowed) and came back rather quickly with an empty bottle.

I didn't realize that they did the 3-hour test to diagnose Type II. I thought they did it just on fasting numbers. I always thought the 3-hour test was just for pregnany women.

I've heard that you have to drink a bottle of orange 'syrup' on an empty stomach. Just the thought of it makes me sick to my stomach. Good luck with this! In the long run it'll be worth it though. :o)

I had one of those several years ago to see if I have Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and I do. My sugar levels were in the 20-40 range after fasting then drinking that syrupy stuff!

I had a glucose tolerance test when I was pregnant twenty years ago. The drink was unpleasant but bearable, and then I sat and read magazines while waiting between the blood draws. Luckily, the test showed I was not diabetic.

Ditto Leslie. The nurse said, "Are you all right?" and I burst into tears.

Three-hour glucose tolerance test? Piece of cake! I had to go through an 8-hour GTT when I was in my late teens. Thankfully, it was normal. And, even more thankfully, I love to read, so I just took a couple of books with me and I was fine.

The liquid, as I recall, wasn't really horrible, it's just that it was very, very sweet. Overly so.

Just ask them to have it poured over ice and use a straw.....then it isn't so bad.
I was in a medical study for pre-diabetes and have to have a 2 hr. glucose test a couple of times a year. I am glad the study is over!

Well, the drink wasn't too bad. I had an upset stomach before we even started. If I don't eat within an hour of waking up, that happens. I had to pick up the orders at the dr's before hand. My appt was at 9:30, they finally took me back at 10. Finger stick said 118 at 10. Between 8 & 8:30 it was 101. They got blood first try every draw. I don't look to pretty, but I only felt one stick, so they were really good! I have to lay down and not see them do it or pass out. I took my knitting with me, so I didn't get bored. My GF came in about an hour before I was finished for an EEG. She has been having virtigo with headaches. We finished at the same time, so we went to lunch together. That was the best part! I should find out the results the 12th. If I have it, she'll send me to a nutritionist. Thanks for "being there" with me! It helped lots.
