Who has one? What kind?

sephia has mentioned the George Foreman... and I emailed my daughter and asked about hers. Found out, Lori's is a Ronco Showtime.

She says, it makes GREAT chicken, but the clean up is a mess, and very time consuming. She only used hers twice so far, because of that.

How does your compare to Lori's?

I love my George Jr rotisserie. It has 2 baskets, 1 flat for doing meat and the other for veggies. DS had the Ronco showtime and I didn't like using it. I did work great but I like mine better. I think they have a bigger one also.

I have a Ronco Showtime. It made great chicken (even once did a small tiurkey) and I loved it. Until my daughter accidentally threw away the metal rods part of the interior mechanism. I no longer use it. Maybe I can buy replacement parts from Ronco? In the meatime, I roast chickens the old-fashion way in my oven or buy Rotisserie birds cooked at my local store.

Jenn, I think you'll find appliances all cook in different times. Heck, BSCB cook in different times even pan to pan. I think your best bet is to experiment and use a good quality instant read thermometer. There are just too many variables to rely on a "recipe" for cooking meats. For instance...how cold are the chicken breasts when they go on the broiler? How thick/thin? Fat content? Looks like a nice appliance. Years ago, I had a Farberware electric grill that I loved. Chinchette...pink things are a bust....really. They were basically a waste. I prefer string. But I have 5 left so I keep trying :) THANK YOU datura and shaklee... chinchette the salt thing is originally from CA. You figure 1 Tbsp per 5 # of poultry. I use kosher salt which is less salty as the grains are bigger. Any way you do not need to over salt. Sprinkle 1 tsp on the outside of the chicken and 1 tsp on the inside. That is enough for a 4# bird. Seal up in a plastic bag...after 2 days uncover and leave open to air in fridge for 24 hrs. On the next day you take it out to bring to room temp and then roast...takes about 1 hr to bring to room temp. You can presalt for only 1 day or even a few hours. You will not believe how much juicier the meat is. I use it for thighs and also breasts .Even for an hour or 2 in the fridge covered by a paper towel. They are very much more juicy and tender. So, that means that it's cute, but not functional for your husband's purposes. I don't have that oven, but do have a rotisserie. With good convection, it's not really necessary, especially at lower temperatures. That may be the reason for the limitation. Just put your items on stands so the air gets all around them, and they cook evenly, the fat drains, etc. There is supposed to be a "self-basting" aspect to rotisserie broiling, as gravity pulls the melted fat this way and that, but I haven't seen a difference. Perhaps there would be more with something like ribs if there's a heavy fat cap, but it still doesn't seem logically like it would be all that different. The real thing about the spit is that all sides are exposed to the broiler, so at higher temperatures, that would make a bigger difference.

Gaggenau oven's rotisserie screw on handle falls off

Pictures show spit and the open end of the handle that goes on the spit end with the threads. I have called Gaggenau customer service twice, only to be on hold to speak to someone for over 15 minutes each time. So I gave up. Here is the problem: the screw-on handle for the spit, which allows you to lift the spit with the cooked item from the cradle, does not stay on. The threading is very course and short and, when the spit turns as it does with heavy food on it, the spit and the handle separate—suddenly! The prior model (many years ago with our first 24” oven) was a plastic handle with a threaded metal core which screwed onto the spit and stayed in place. The new model is 100% plastic. It DOES NOT stay on and, I believe, constitutes a real consumer hazard if the hot food and spit fall to the floor or onto a leg or lap or otherwise. Gaggenau support is so terrible compared to the products, I just cannot believe them!

The George one is a pretty simple clean up. Holds up to a 4 lb chicken-no more.

I have the Ronco Showtime as well, love it and use it often. It makes awesome prime rib!

I have a Ronco Showtime and I LOVE it! I use it about 1-2 times a week. The best thing I use it for is a London Broil marinated then put in the basket and rotate. I use it for chickens, of course, hot dogs, roasts.

Except for the spit rods, I have all the accessories for the Ronco Showtime-the basket, flavor injector,extra elstic bands, the works! I checked Ronco's website and they say "contact us for replacement parts" and the website does not show the cost. I'll phone them next week.

I absolutely love my George Foreman. The clean-up is pretty easy. What I like most about owning my own rotisserie is that I can season everything just the way I want. I don't add salt to my food so the store-bought chickens are too salty for me. I've even roasted vegetables in the basket.
