Well, I did not think it very funny the year I got a riding mower for his business! I have yet to see it and that has been a few years back. He wrapped up the keys and manual and gave them to me.

My husband once gave me a very sexy camisole from Frederick's of Hollywood, complete with "peek a boo" cutouts. I opened it in front of HIS MOTHER! Can you imagine how red my face was?

I am trying it this year. Seriously, we need something for our pool and that is what he is getting! Good thing I have back up as to why I got it - pots and pans, knives, etc. for my gifts in the past, we all use them. Same thing for the pool vacuum right? Jannie, I would have died.

One year a secret sister that was well known for her strange gifts, got me a 12 pack of pop, toilet paper and a broken Holly Hobby plaque. Everyone was looking at me and how I was going to respond to it. Awkward.

My dh and I haven't bought Christmas or birthday gifts for each other in years. That being said, I never understood why women get all excited to get a dishwasher or microwave as a gift. They usually use it to serve others/family. That shouldn't be a gift, it's a necessity! Unless of course, they specifically ask for it.

One year Mothers Day fell on a weekend, and I had bought a nice gift and already presented it to my wife.

Later in the afternoon I was outside mounting a new outboard motor on my boat when one of my wifes uppity, know it all, sister bertha better than you type girl friends happened to stop by the house. As she was walking in from her car she saw me working on the boat and she asked, "What did you get your wife for Mothers Day?" (like it was really any of her business to start with).

Without even looking up I said, "If you gotta know, I got her this here outboard motor."

She immediately copped that nose in the air attitude and says, "An outboard motor, what kind of a Mothers day gift is that?"

To which I replied, "Not that its any of your business to start with, but I think this outboard was a pretty thoughtful gift, this year when we go fishing, she won't have to row the boat!"

I get kitchen gifts, but I'm really happy when that happens.

This wasn't a Christmas gift, but one year on my daughters 9th or 10th birthday, her wacky aunt gave her a case of canned mushrooms. I had mentioned once that I couldn't figure out how my picky eater child could like beets and mushrooms. One thing about it, though. It sure was memorable.

I crack up every year when I open presents from my sisters-in-law. We all live in different states but every year the two sisters seem to have the same idea. I always get christmas things like plates, sweaters, candles, etc. always with a Christmas motif. The funny thing is that they know I take my tree down Christmas night so I just leave the stuff in a box to store until next year. I told them once that they should let me open up the gifts early so I could use them THIS Christmas. They just laughed and said that I wouldn't have anything to open Christmas morning. Seriously? I do not mean to sound ungrateful but, maybe you could buy me something un-Christmas like? LOL

As for hubs gift giving. Guess I got used to his "talent' years ago. His real gift to me was being a good provider, always worked hard, sometimes 2 jobs. He is faithful and easy to cook for. I've seen some friends who lived with just the opposite kind of man. As for getting what I want, when things got easier for us money-wise, I just quietly bought it.
He has done some surprising things through the years. We belonged to a couples golf league and the group would go out to eat at a supper club after golf. One night, with out my knowing, he told the waitress, no matter what I ordered (which was usually the steak sandwich) to bring me the king lobster tail. When she put this huge crustacean in front of me, he asked if I was surprised. I told him, oh yeah and he was going to get a surprise when we get home. The next week at golf league, the men wanted to know what he got....heehee, and the women asked if I was going to get lobster that night. I told them I was still paying for last weeks lobster. LOL Believe me, that is a surprise I'll never forget.

We have never bought those types of things as gifts, that is too funny, Dotmom! About the funniest thing was the year my gifts were all on back order. He bought me clothes and nothing came in!

We haven't really done a lot of gift buying for one another for a long time. We used to but I just don't need any more jewelry, clothes, cologne..... He usually gets me stocking stuffer things that he knows I use and replace regularly. I do the same thing for him. Especially this year!! The fridge and our cat's mouth are our gifts!! LOL!!

I had a very good friend for many years who did all of his shopping Christmas, birthdays, weddings, etc. at garage sales. He looked for new presents still in the box. One year he gave me bedroom slippers that were too small. I didn't say anything but I thank him for them. He was the best friend. Another year he gave me a gift that I still treasure--it is a very nice retractable tape measure which I have had for over 25 years now. Sadly, this guy died of cancer a couple of years ago.

Hubby and I usually get a mutual gift, something for the house that we can both enjoy.

Yes, one year I got a GPS. I don't need directions--I know everywhere I'm going, but DH has really enjoyed it. LOL

If I ask for the same thing 2 years in a row, and don't get it, he will receive for Christmas the next year. That trick seems to work because now I get what I really want (nothing very expensive).

When we were first married, he bought me a laundry hamper and a shovel for our house. I was not impressed. Another time he surprised me with a box of razor blades that someone had given him. I wonder what he wanted me to do with them...?

Years ago, I got a full size pool table, complete with balls etc. I have yet to pick up a pool stick or whatever they're called......

Better than my father-in-law; he had 5 boys and didn't teach a one of them to buy a gift or card for their mother. My dh said his mother never got any Mother's Day gifts till I came in the picture. :( He said the only birthday gift he remembers her getting was a washing machine...complete with a big bow. Wow....thanks! Not!

I know I wouldn't appreciate a "gift" that I could tell was for him anyway. We don't exchange gifts anymore, married almost 42 years now, we can just get what we want for ourselves, and we are not extravagant. Any big purchase is agreed on by both of us.

The worse gift I ever got was a vacum cleaner, and it was not even a good one. It was when we were first married. I was not impressed, but I had been taught you never looked a gift horse in the mouth. I felt like my gift horse had turned into a jackass that year.

One year on Mothers day we bought a new John Deer lawn tractor, it was on sale and we needed one. The salesman said are you buying your wife this for Mothers day? I quickly said no I am buying it for him. So hopefully I will not have to push mow our 3 acres any more. He did not know what to say! Then we both started laughing, he said well you got me that time!

I would rather have a handmade card and dinner made by my hubby than him buy me an appliance that is for everyone else.

it wasn't a gift to me but 2 years ago my MIL bought my DH and pair of orange checkered pajama bottoms. I got a sweater that was too small...but we thanked her anyway.

We also got, as a house warming gift, a plate with a rooster on it..just because we live in the country.

My parents gve me a tiny box to open in front of my aunt & uncle.It was a training bra,I was never soooo embarassed My uncle had this rediculous laugh,He just hollered and laughed.my dad yelled there for your bee stings,uncle yelled bandaid.Both died or Id say look at me now...It wasnt funny at the time.
