Kathy, I hope by being busy your time will pass by fast until next weekend. If I had not retired two and a half weeks ago I would be going back to work today. It sure feels good not to have to go.

I'm back to work too. I worked Christmas Eve too, and will work New Years Eve and Jan 2nd.

I am exhausted...going to think seriously about handing over the reins to the next generation....I was exhausted last year, too, now that I think of it.

Someone cleared and rinsed the plates off for me, for which I'm thankful, I believe it was a guest...I'm going back to bed for a few moments to reflect upon all this.

Anyone else back to work today?

I would have been if I was not using vacation time... I am also so exhausted today. We have had company or gone somewhere for the last 3 days. I have eaten too much and I don't drink alcohol very much so this time of year it's more than I am used to. I feel fat and bloated and my eyes are retaining so much water! LOL.. OK.. I think I am getting off track from the original question.. :)

I'm back. I was here at 6:30, matter of fact, as traffic was ultra light. That was a great way to start the week back up. My Supervisor won't be in today, so I'll be able to work at my own pace and get as much (or as little) done as I care to.

I didn't sleep well last night, as my DDs are at my Mother's for the next few days (daycare is closed - gotta love it). My Mother had a house full of guests, but luckily, most of them are departing this morning.
I was a little nervous fearing that they wouldn't get much (any?) rest, being away from home, sleeping on an air mattress on the floor in my mother's bedroom, with a dog in the next room (DD #1 is terrified of dogs) and about five more people in the house than they're accustomed to.

Despite the fact that I really need the break, I'm regretting leaving them over there already. It'll be a long couple of days for me. I have horrible 'mommy guilt,' and I'm open to advice on how to get over this. I know I'm a better mommy when I'm away from them for a day or two, but I don't enjoy it as much as I should and spend most of the time feeling guilty about not spending all my available time with them.

Janemarie, I ate way too much too and I'm quite bloated as well. I have a large cup of peppermint tea steeping now. I hope that will help with the tummy a bit - it's feeling not too jolly after all that rich food.

mrsjjb, do it more often. That'll help you get over the feeling. I think you need a break from each other. I didn't know until today (other DD works at the same facility & told me) that my DD was to work, and called in, saying she didn't have daycare today, so she couldn't come in. She knows darn well I'd have watched them. I guess I'll chalk that up to her being immature (at 30?) Next time she calls whining about being broke, I'll tell her she should have worked the 26th.
Sorry to vent, but I feel better.

I'm back to work today too. I didn't do a darn thing for Christmas and I'm still exhausted and want to go back home and go to bed. LOL

Grammahony - LOL! You remind me of my Mother.
I'll take that advice and try to follow it. I know you're right. It's hard for me. Not real sure why.

... but not quite "forever".

Just until they put you into that box ...

... and slip you under the grass.

Which makes it more important to live each day to the fullest - these are the days that you worked all of those years to gain for yourself ... to enjoy. Right?

And don't forget ...

... when "able-bodied" folks sometimes have told disadvantaged people that they themselves are not disadvantaged ...

... some of the disadvantaged have been known to have replied, "Not yet!".

While some of us are fortunate enough to retain pretty well full possession of our faculties until death ... many are not that fortunate.

So each day while enjoying good health is precious.

As are most of the days when our health is not as good as it was in earlier times.

Grammahony & mrsjjb-Funny-I have the exact opposite problem. When my DD is at my MIL, or I'm away and DD is with DH, I enjoy myself too much! I trust them both 100%, so I know she'll be fine and I don't worry (maybe about stuff like eating too much candy/or not sleeping great). But I feel sort of guilty that I "should" miss her more. I'm a stay-at-home mom and with her normally 99% of the time, so I think I just get burned out of being with her constantly.

But to answer the original question-I'm always working! But DH is off for a while, so that's nice to have him home, although he spent the whole day prepping and painting DD's new room (I can't help since I'm pregnant)

I'm back to work today, and I am very tired. DH had to wake me because I went back to sleep after the alarm went off.

Teresava - you lucky girl, you! Perhaps the guilt comes from being a work-outside-of-the-home Mommy syndrome thing. I was listening to Dr. Laura yesterday. She gave us Moms an earful! She makes it plain and simple, but for some reason, it's not that cut and dry in my house.

Susan on - it will get easier. I must admit, however, when the alarm went off this morning, I was SHOCKED! I truly could not wrap my brain around the fact that it was time to get up and get moving!

I'm retired, so every day is the weekend!

OJ, thanks for the reminder. How silly of me to think it would go on forever. I won't be slipped under the grass either. My point to Linda was.. the great feeling of not having to go back to work.
I used to listen to Dr. Laura a lot. She has some good points, and some I don't agree with. If your a single mom, you either work and support yourselves and your children, or you go on the system. I prefered/could work, and had a great job from the age of 27-57 1/2. Linda and a few of the others here know the work schedual we had. I didn't get a lot of time off, and when I did, I felt guilty too, if I wasn't home with the girls. But I need ME time too. Everyone does. So a couple hours every other week is a great break.
I must have done okay, as I have 4 grown daughters, none did drugs (other than 1 did a little pot) or are alcoholics, and I'm very proud of them.
One is able to be a SAHM, and she's busy 24/7 running them here and there, keeping them busy and in sports.
Just make it quality time when you are with them. Besides Gramma may want some special time with her DGK's.

I don't officially go back until the 2nd. But I spent a lot of time yesterday & today making/receiving calls & doing emails. So I'm actually working, just not in my office. It's pretty frustrating - I really need some downtime. Hopefully tomorrow & Mon. will be quieter.
