One thing I know for sure - she's not the first 16 year old young woman to get pregnant and she surely won't be the last.
What I find ironic is that her mother was planning to write a book on Parenting. According to reports, the plans for that book are now on hold indefinitely. I'm curious, what was the premise of the book - was it "Parenting - How I did it well," or "Parenting - Don't Do What I Did!" It seems they have some, ahem, issues within the family. Britney sure seems to be a bit lost, but who's to say it's due to the way she was raised? One can only presume so, as she is still pretty young herself. What else can we blame it on? (That's the weak side of me - always seeking somewhere to place the blame, I'm glad I can admit it!)
I was thinking just the other day how I would react if one of my daughters became pregnant as a teenager. My thinking (today) is that I would step in and raise the child and allow my daughter to finish high school and encourage her to go on to College. Granted, Linsay is in a different situation, as she is looked at as a 'working adult' with her own TV show - Zoey 101. On Nickelodeon, no less! I wonder how quickly she'll be released from that contract?!
Life is hard enough when one makes all the right decisions.
I don't believe that any child should be looked at as 'the reason' why so-and-so does not/is not able to achieve all they think they can.
I just hope she didn't do this on purpose (i.e., publicity stunt).
Girls make mistakes but getting pregnant when your bread and butter is starring in a show on a family-friendly network, when you've seen the scrutiny your older sister deals with on a daily basis, has got to rank up there with one of the stupidest mistakes. What the hell is so hard about birth control?
Her name is Jamie Lynn, not Linsay - but that news is too bad, if it is true. I know they were saying she was earlier in the year also, and it wasn't true. But nothing surprises me anymore.
That really sets a great example for our young girls, doesn't it?
There are a few really young girls that get pregnant every year in our school - around age 15 - 16. They bring the babies to ball games and make it look just wonderful.
I told my girls - NO babies! NO fun if you do. I WILL NOT raise them, and I WILL NOT pay for them. They WILL NOT take them to games, etc, and the father will be taken to court and sued for full child support. I am not letting it seem like a romantic notion in any way, shape, or form.
Teen pregnancy happens - and I really wish some would entertain the thought of giving the child a good home with a couple who can raise the child correctly.
This will be such a huge media story - just so sad, isn't it?
It's sad, but I hope she's a better mom than her sister, or she gives the baby up for adoption. She's in for a long hard life, but it can be done, and she can be a good mom (IF she doesn't follow her sister's footsteps).
This morning i heard that Lynn Spears(mom) said she was in shock. That Jamie is a good kid and has never even broken curfew. Then they said that Jamie and the boyfriend have been shacken up. Who lets their 16 years live with their boyfriend? I am disappointed in Disney. They released a statement supporting Jamie. I believe that they should drop her. The show that Jamie is on is for 7-12years olds. It does not send a good messege to kids. Soon our kids will think that getting pregnant is not so bad. Everyone does it!
My Bestfriend got pregnant when she was fifteen years old, had the baby just after she turned sixteen. By the time the child was 6 months old she moved out of her mother's house due to the stress that it was causing. She lived off of social assistance, which in Ontario the monthly income barely covered rent and hydro, for the rest of highschool.
She graduated with honours from highschool, was granted a scholarship for college, and gradauted top of her class in an RPN program. She now has a wonderful 7 year old daughter who is the light of her life. She is an excellent mother. She is a better mother than some "mature" mothers that I know.
I'm not saying that being a yong mom is a good thing, but give the girl a chance. It is my opinion that alot of young mothers have a hard time raising their children because they are believed to fail right from the beginning.
Hopefully Jamie Lynn is not following in her sister's footsteps..... (I'm sure we've all heard the stories about Brittany) But I guess time will tell....
I agree that the news would be a lot more pleasant and interesting if Britney and her posse would disappear from it.
That said, I want to add that my oldest daughter got pregnant at 16. I had never known anyone who got pregnant so young (although I found out later that I actually knew several people who did), and believe me, this was not what I wanted for my child. But I didn't take a hard line, and I'm so glad I didn't.
I maintained a good relationship with my daughter, and went to every doctor's appointment with her. I gave her a beautiful baby shower. She got married, and I tried to be a good mother-in-law. She had a wonderful natural childbirth. I was her labor coach, and held one of her knees when the baby was born.
My granddaughter has been such a blessing in my life. After her divorce, my DD moved back home with the baby and stayed for several years. I didn't raise the baby, who was in daycare most of the time my DD was working or in school, but we had a lot of quality time together. Because she arrived when she did, she was able to know her "Aunt Dear," my DD Jill, who died in 2001. The presence of my DGD at that time helped me immensely, and my relationship with her is still one of the happiest parts of my life.
She'll be 17 next month! She is a super girl, and my DD is a fabulous mother. My DD has also earned a bachelor's degree. She has a great job, and is going for her MBA. She did this all on her own, without any financial support from me. I am honest when I say I'm glad she got pregnant at 16. It illustrates to me the truth in the saying that everything happens for a reason.
If Walt Disney hears about this, he'll be spinning in his grave. I remember when he told Annette (a Mousekeeter in the 1950's) not to wear a bikini in those Beach Party movies. If you notice, she always wore a one-piece suit. But I am not surprised at Jamie Lynn. Young girls have been getting pregnant forever. And her big sister is certainly no advertisement for modesty and self-control.
I heard Britney is pregnant again too. I don't know if that's true or not but what is wrong with that girl. Doesn't she know what birth control is??? She's a horrible mother and I feel sorry for any other baby she may have. As for her sister, Jamie, well look at her roll models....
Taught middle school, and many many of the girls below 16 got preggie. Before I retired, I was teaching THEIR kids. Most of whom had been raised by a grandparent! NOT THE MOTHER!
Spears' mother makes the point that Jaimie always made curfew. Wow! Can you really have sex and still make curfew? Who knew! Besides, Jaime is shocked...it was so unexpected. Golly gee...ya both got the stupid gene. The boy is 19 and she's 16. This might get interesting.
I am disappointed in Disney. They released a statement supporting Jamie. I believe that they should drop her. The show that Jamie is on is for 7-12years olds. It does not send a good messege to kids. Soon our kids will think that getting pregnant is not so bad. Everyone does it!
I think it's illegal to fire someone for getting pregnant.
Doris Day sang it best - Kay sera sera, whatever will be will be, the future's not ours to see, kay sera sera.
Whatever the situation, I hope things work out for the best. As for her big sister - I still enjoy her music and wish her the best to find herself. She seems lost right now to me.
I think it is sad and probably not the best thing for Jamie Lynn - but I also think that none of us can know how hard it is for child actors today (and in the past). I can't imagine the life they live, always in the public eye, not able to have a "normal" life .. some turning to drugs or alcohol, some dealing with eating disorders and others pregnant too young - like Jamie. There really aren't too many young actors and actresses who manage to make it to adulthood "perfectly".
Bunglogirl, hire at will is the law of the land. They don't need a reason to fire anyone. If they did fire her, her family would probably sue with some crafty lawyer trumping up some complaint against, but still....
I think they should let her go, too. Or, at least don't show her belly on that show. They do that all the time. I don't think it's awful she is pregnant. I think she shouldn't be on a kid's show in that condition. Then again, firing her nor hiding her belly isn't going to spare the masses one way or another. Our kids are already so corrupted by the images and examples they idolize and impressions they receive with nothing to counter them.
I read on Entertainment Weekly's website that filming on the fourth and final season of Zoey 101 is finished. I guess they decided beforehand to keep the show to four years. So this won't affect the show at all, and it sorta explains why she wasn't "fired." They've already got all the footage they need; it would probably be WAY too expensive to do anything but air it.
