I've got a HUGE secret

And my daughter doesn't want to announce it yet to her 3 brothers because it's so early. So I've been sworn to secrecy. My daughter is barely pregnant with her 2nd. Their baby just turned 8 months. They wanted to have the second one soon, but not quite this soon. I am ecstatic and overwhelmed with the reality that these babies will be 16 months apart in age. I am blessed that we were able to move 1000 miles to live 5 minutes away from her family and I get to see my granddaughter every day. I watch her for an hour or two a couple times a week and absolutely LOVE playing with her and feeding her and putting her down for a nap. I missed that with the 4 older grandkids and living 900 miles away from them. And now this baby is gonna be a big sister when she's still gonna be a baby and I get to help my daughter out with TWO little ones! WOW! I am blessed!

That is BIG news, but I guess the 'secret' is no longer a secret.

Grand kids are a joy. I've got only one and she will very likely be the only one.

Now that's what I call a Christmas gift!!!! That's a wonderful secret, I can feel your excitement and happiness. No need to say "happy new year" to you. You have enough happiness to last many many years with your two grands nearby.

Collinw and Jan, I've tried to start hardy hibiscuses from seed several times before with little luck. I have read they are notoriously unreliable. They are in the mallow family and you know how finicky their first cousin okra can be. If the ground is too cool, okra won't sprout. Well, this time I planted them in May in a tray in the greenhouse. The tray of sandy soil had been inside the greenhouse for weeks so the soil was very warm to the touch. When I planted them I broke a vigorous sweat, so it was HOT in the gh. Well, these suckas came up in 3 days. I was very surprised. I think it was the heat. Something else which surprised me was some of the seeds were three years old. They were stored in a clear plastic cube with one of those dessicate things which keeps packaged food dry. Jan, these are open pollenated so I don't know if the seeds will come true. I can tell you they are growing and as the leaves get larger I can see distinctive differences in leaf shapes. I fertilized them Saturday and they were greener today and seemed to have grown overnight. I can hardly wait for blooms because there is no telling what combinations we may get.

Paul, Congratulations on your PVS eggs and Monarch cats! Yes, I bet you'll be getting more Monarch eggs. I hope that you also find those GF eggs that you're hoping for. I love this time of year too. Maryann, I agree about the Monarchs. I didn't mark down when they showed up here last year, but I thought I had some by now. They still aren't here. I'm practically butterflyless. I see an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail about every day; today I watched it nectaring on the orange cosmos and some clover in our yard. I've been seeing a sulphur (I'm not good at IDing and am not sure if it was Clouded, Cloudless, or Orange. I saw my first Silver-spotted Skipper on Thursday; it was nectaring on some violas. I've been seeing Cabbage Whites for probably about two months now. I have no idea if the black butterfly with markings that I've seen flying around here is a Spicebush Swallowtail or the black form of the ETST. Nothing has been eating at any of my plants except the groundhog (it's still here but up further in the yard now) and the slugs. I put shallow dishes outside in the flower beds with beer in them to kill the slugs. I think they eat anything and everything. I don't know if they're the ones that have holes in my hyacinth bean vines but they're holey. The two Dutchmans Pipevine plants that I have outside are real nice looking and starting to climb up the trellis that I made for them. It's not the fanciest-looking trellis in the world, but I guess they won't mind. Yesterday I was working up the garden section where I want to put the Agastache foeniculum and will plant those today. I still have my Dame's Rocket to plant and a lot of other things like I said before. I think it would be kind of ironic if I wouldn't get any Monarchs and I probably have enough to feed several hundred cats. Now, if I don't see any a month from now yet, then I will definitely wonder where in the world they are. Cathy

They like rich soil.mine get huge topping the house.I have a pair of green ones growing in old compost pile in dog kennel.They are already 15 feet plus& If I was better about watering them...would be large like some of the other years. My ones from 2 yrs ago...the seeds blew everywhere from hurrican rita...Still come up too.I know that area is sandy to about 3 ft. poor soil = shorter plants rich soil= tall huge plants also mulch them.yes they do branch out.mine seem to branch out around 3-4 feet.I got red& carmencita which is green with pink veins but the younger foiage is bronzeish cast till older then is green,but is neat.The hummers love them. The year Ivan came to water...sept.It blew my plants down& they had some uprooting.we're 7 ft when that happened.I transplanted them,cut the tip of stalk when it got ratty& they still grew to 15 ft,but we're shaded lower 3 ft Their is a short version out called impala..suppose to stay under 3 ft.I've never found seed...but know its there.I grew one that was from a large seed(it was size of runner bean)I can't find it either.It use to be the one that would return from root.I lost it when moved pond.

I'm so happy for you and so jealous! My granddaughter is 18 months old and would love to be a big sister! And to live 5 minutes away?! Now that is called being BLESSED. Enjoy!

Congrats! My middle brother was a little younger than your GD will be when I was born (16 months) and my other brother was just 18 months when the middle brother was born. I think my mother wanted to just get it all over with! LOL

Wonderful news! I can't wait to be a Grandma, even tho both my daughters are single and have plenty of time. I waited till I was 35 to get pregnant the first time, had my second daughter 14 months later. Two close together is a lot of work for the Mom, it's great you'll be close by to help out. Congratulations, Grammy !

Drewsmaga, I'm glad you are near your daughter because she's going to need you! My son and DIL have a 3 week old and a 14 month old. I spent yesterday with them, and those 2 kids kept 4 adults hopping all day! In a way, I think it's harder than twins! Congratulations.

As the lawyers would say, "you are assuming facts not in evidence." This is a public forum and you have absolutely no way to know who is lurking, or what they might do with the information once they have it. Anyone reading the information could turn around and post it on their facebook, and it would be automatically distributed to their entire friends list, and no doubt many of those would feel a similar compulsion to pass it on.

Believe me, when I was in the Air Force I held a U.S. "Crypto" (a step above Top Secret) and a United Nations "Top Secret" clearance".

The term secret does not mean to only discuss the information in places where you think certain ppl might not hear, it means,,Keep this entirely to yourself, and do not discuss it with anybody, or anything for that matter, not even with your tomato plants while sitting alone in the garden.

My gs was only 9 months old when ds/DIL got pregnant with their second. However.... that 2nd pregnancy turned out to be twin girls!!! So their was lots & LOTS of diapers & bottles & baby tending! But also so very, very much LOVE!

You are indeed fortunate to live close by & can be helpful to the family + share the love.

Congratulations on the good news!
I had my 3rd baby (a boy) when my son was barely 3, and my
daughter was only 13 months. Big surprise, and it all
worked out well. No jealousy since they can't remember
a time when they didn't have 2 siblings. They are now
in their late 30's....

Not quite, but almost, "Irish Twins". She is SO fortunate to have you there to help out. A dear friend believed the old wives' tales that you couldn't get pregnant while you were nursing...ha-ha-ha! Two kids EXACTLY one year apart.

I consider the table a 'relief valve' for these kinds of 'secrets'! (AFAIK, no 'Mericans have been put at risk by this revelation.)

What a wonderful surprise!!!
My daughter just moved home(Florida to Indiana)
with our two little granddaughters and
we are just a couple of miles away and get
to see the girlies all of the time now!

Thank you all for your responses and sharing in my joy. I watched my granddaughter for 2 hours today so Mom could cook up a supply of baby food for the freezer. I LOVE being a "hands-on" Grammy. I missed that with the older grandkids.

pekemom, yeah, I know it works out after the chaos. 2nd son & DDIL's son was 4 & 1/2, daughter was almost 2, and they had preemie twins. Utter chaos for several years. When they told they oldest it was going to be two babies, he had the exact same thought as me, and said , "Mama, we're going to have 4 car seats." Not to mention 3 in diapers and having to be fed. It all turns out ok. The kids are 9-13 and wonderful kids who are so fun to be with. I miss them soooo much.

And today I got "booked" to watch the baby on 1/5 when Mom has her 1st OB appt. WOO-HOO!
