Coppola "Pinot Noir" is very good medicine. You don't know me (I've been lurking and on other parts of GW for a while) ,but you are going through a whole lot of stuff and I've been there, done that. Does your tooth hurt? If not, the nerve to it is most likely dead but still do not munch on that side and see or at least talk to your your dentist a.s.a.p. Been there, done that. And, it is always a holiday, an impending trip, a family event. In my honest opine, tooth first, and the other stuff later.

Clare - you have my sympathy! Crowns, colonoscopies, and the holidays all mixed together - not a great combination. I hope that it all comes together for you in the best way possible. I've had problems making docs' appts. now also. They are either on vacation or are overloaded with patients trying to get everything done before the new year.

Clare, sorry to hear about your health problems. Yes, problems come all at one time for me too.

As for your tooth, Be very careful not to break the tooth. You had a crown which means you had a root canal. After a root canal, without the nerves, the tooth will become brittle. That's the reason for the crown is to protect the dead tooth.

You can purchase a night guard to help protecting it and to help keeping your tongue away.

Hubby's broke too! Dentist put a temp crown on it.
Hey we have a car that is making a grinding noise in the steering (outside not PS), the door handle on the passenger side self destructed and the window stuck on down when hubby got the mail Thursday. It is a Honda Accord. It needs inspected by the end of the year or it turns into a pumpkin. Alternate vehicle for him to drive is Diesel truck.
We need another car but he wants to get his fixed so buy stock in the fuel companies before he drives that huge truck to work.
He has 2 aunts and both are in the hospital.
Right now we are in the middle of an ice storm.
It comes in waves...

By golly, I'd show up at the Dr.'s office and MAKE them give me an answer about the colonoscopy! I am so sick of doctors. They and their staff don't care about your problems, just how much money they can get out of you.

The drug stores usually have some stuff you can put in/over your tooth to tide you over a few days til you can get in to the dentist. I don't know what its called, but I've seen it before. I am thinking its like a soft wax or something??

Yes drug stores do sell stuff that helps when you have a painful tooth. They do have wax stuff that can patch a hole temporarily. And that Pinot Noir sounds good,too.

Crown, colonoscopy........oh, crap! You have my sympathy. I've often wished we could simply grow new teeth, like horses.

I agree with Junkyardgirl...drive over to your doctor and reschedule your colonoscopy and find out what's going on -- IN PERSON.

And, like other posters mentioned, there are over-the-counter products for a broken cap at your drugstore.

Or, you could try some denture adhesive or soft wax from a candle (after it cooled!) to put over your tooth to tide you over till you can get to your dentist.

Try to relax! All will get resolved in the coming days!

Usually a dentist will work you in if your are in pain. Even if you're not, I'd call first thing in the morning and sound pitiful. :)

About that colonoscopy. You are right, Doc's schedules are jammed packed right now, for the reason you mentioned. Everyone is wanting to get in before the end of the year and everything starts over on their deductible. Don't know what to advise you on that, but I wouldn't quit bugging them until I get an answer.

at the end of nov i decided to get into a new dentist before my insurance rolls over to next yr, why pass up a free cleaning and x-rays lol. i knew it would be hard but i'm sure because i have insurance they squeezed me in lol. that and the fact i haven't been to a dentist since june 05 when i contracted a staph infection from a cleaning and nearly died, they probably figured i needed alot of work lol. luckily i just need to get back on a plan to replace my 35+ yr old fillings that are pulling away from the teeth and a cleaning. i had my consult appt last thur and my cleaning is this wed. with a very cool high tech dentist who uses lasers for everything, no shots or drilling!

we're having a bad week too thou :-( wed a.m. my furbaby sandy tore a ligament in her knee just running in the backyard but we didn't know at the time what was wrong. my husband now says she 'stepped on a pop-top & blew out her flip-flop' appropriate for our FL lifestyle lol, that's a jimmy buffett margaritaville line BTW lol. i HAD to leave for work and he HAD to teach till 11 a.m. so we had to leave her home alone, against my wishes. i was sure she'd be dead by noon when he returned to get her to the vet and was planning on punishments & revenge for dh for not calling in. she has a tear and if we can keep this terrier (terror) calm, no running, no jumping no life basically lol for 3 weeks she should recover. otherwise she'll completely tear the ligament and need a $4K surgery and spend 6 months w/ no running, jumping etc... the very next morning our oldest cat, momma cat, died... the only bright spot turned out to be the dentist visit lol something i'm avoided doing for more than 2 yrs but luckily everything is o.k. hope you can get in the dentist quick! ohh you know they sell a temp dental putty at target or walgreens, that might buy you time.. ~ liz

Sorry, Clare, that's awful. I had 3 broken teeth for a long time that needed crowns, I'd get them fixed and the filling would just fall back out again. Finally the dentist told me I needed crowns on them, got one fixed (the most irritating one) last year. Have two more to go and one of them is a little sharp, even after having the dentist smooth it over. So, I feel your pain.

I got paid on Friday, but my direct deposit was over $350 less than what I should have gotten paid. Isn't that nice? Something's really messed up because my electronic pay stub shows the higher amount, but that's not what was deposited in my bank account. GRRR! I'm off tomorrow so I'll probably get to spend my entire day off finding out what happened and how to get it fixed. I just hope I don't have to drive into work to do it.

I broke a molar last December, found a dentist the week between Christmas and New years to fix it, boy was I lucky! I have no insurance, so it really cost me! You have my sympathy!

I think I jinxed myself by posting about my teeth, cause while I was flossing my teeth after I posted, another part of one of my broken teeth came off. ) :
