Dh gets his spinal implant tomorrow...

Keep good thoughts for him! This is the permanent one. He was supposed to get it sometime in January but the doctor said he had a cancellation and could get him in this tomorrow. He is so relieved, the pain is so bad he really hated the thought of being in this pain until January. The temporary one was in for 4 days and he loved it. So tomorrow is hopefully the last day he'll be in this pain!

Soon we can start walking again!

Colorcrazy, so, a fellow walker-user, and now you've accepted it. Good for you! I haven't reached that point, but it has only been several weeks. I haven't been out side with it by myself. The weather has been too bad for that. My DD takes me every where I need to go. She folds the walker, puts it in the car and off we go. When I can get out, there are sidewalks and roads right outside my door; that will help. I have found that I can get around in the house without it for the most part, but so far I still take it with me and hold on to the furniture, doors, etc, just in case. I have a tray for it which adds a little weight to it so I lift it to turn it around a lot; I call that physical therapy. OT for a minute. I see you live in Arlington. I lived there from about age 7 to 12, when my family moved to Vienna, VA for a couple years, then back to Arlington, where I graduated from W-L. Later, marriage took me and my DH to Richmond, and then to Bristol, but back to Arlington and finally Augusta County. More later, maybe. Linda, from a walker to a quad cane; that sounds very brave. I have a quad that I got when I had my first knee replacement, and used it again for the second knee. A couple years ago I got a regular cane for going out, but used the quad for when I got up in the mornings. I'm thinking about going back to it here in the house, but I don't want to risk anything until after the next scan. I've seen the HuriCane, but haven't tried one. Years ago I had a very elderly friend at the pool who all ways decorated her cane. She was quite a fun lady. I may have to be thinking about decorating mine. Maybe we should organize a KT Group of WalkerWonders? That could be fun. Tomorrow is Girls Day Out, and it is supposed to be nicer weather. Yea! Sue

I was worried he couldn't keep up on my power walk since he's only around 12 or 13 pounds. I walk pretty fast while husband goes slower. Guess what? He walked 2 and 1/2 miles in the 90 degree weather always out front, never stopped , and seemed to like it. Coming up the sidewalk he knew when we got to the picket fence gate that he lived here, stopped dead in his tracks. Friend came visiting with a toy but he is not good with soft things. Finds a way to rip them and take the stuffing out. This was one of those Fat Cat products(cat burglar) and appeared to be well made..He needs to chew so it will mostly hard things. Cracks me up when I come in here and he's asleep on his bed, when I check on him in a minute or two, he is always on the chair I just left looking guilty. I don't care. I'm going to pick my battles. He can't hassle the cats, he can't jump up on people, and he can't be destructive..I hope for the best because he is a sweet appealing little guy who lost his first home. She supposedly had RA and he IS energetic and needs to work it off. There is a 30 day money back period which I hope I won't need..I'll do a picture when I figure out how.

After reading this article about Jerry Lewis to hom he said that it is the proceedure the doctor wants him to do....I must have missed something because the last one I emember him telling me about was the pump one and he didn't want it because it's still keeping him on the medication he so wants to get away from. He siad the doctor discussed this neurostimulation with him a few months ago but he really doesn;'t want to do it until he retires. It sounds wierd to me ...I would think it be more helpful now to help get him through his last few years of work. He sees the doctor again in 3 months and I want to go with him to ask more questions. My DH trusts this doctor completely and he has been a great doctor, but this makes no sense to me. His nephew's wife works for a very well known orthopedic surgeon and I'm going to have her ask him about it today. But he did say he would have it done at that time and can;t wiat to try it. He just hates the medication. He works and functions just fine on these meds, been on them for aver 2 years now. BUT he hates the fact of what it nmay be doing to the rest of his body although he gets hisliver and kidneys, etc checked often. This morning he got up and went to work, I tried to get him to stay home but he hates to waste his sick leave hours. He says it feels better but the pain has shifted from one side of his back to the other and the anke isn't as bad as it was before. I told him he should take a day to stay off of it, but he;'s stubborn and went on. He did say he'd come home early if it got worse. But so far it is helping...we'll see and keep our fingers crossed for at least a few months!! Thanks all!

Special thoughts for DH's relief!!! I know this can't compare to his pain, but both times when I was pregnant, I didn't have awful morning sickness, but a dull ache that lasted most of the day. It got to a point where it really was depressing to know I'd feel like this all the time for months and months. But at least in my case, I knew there was an end in sight (with a happy reward!) I hope you both are able to be out and about again VERY soon! Cute pic! Poor grandbabies just want to play with their Papa!!

I have been thinking about you and wondering how this was coming along. You and your DH will be in my thoughts and prayers. It sounds like a big procedure. Does the doctor give an estimated time period that it will take for him to be healed completely after this?

With Jason and all of his back troubles, I can't tell you how many times I have said "All I want is for Jason not to hurt anymore." What a wonderful Christmas gift for you both.

Vikki, I'm sending your dh a great big wish for a painfree holiday. I hope it works as good as the temp.

My niece took a while finding her right pain med but when she did, she was a whole new person in every way. So I hope your dh will be much better very soon too.

Thanks everyone. He is scheuled for a 3:00 surgery this afternoon. Have to be there at 1:00...to sit and wait! He's nervous but excited to finally have it done. Heather he will be off work for a week and should be good to go after that. He is bummed that he will miss Thomas the Train this week end though :O)! We are all taking the boys to the Day out with Thomas event about an hour away on Saturday. Now he can't go. He has missed so much lately with the kids and decided he would do this in pain....but now he can't. We'll go again next year though...he can go then. Our youngest son will be staying with him to help him that day. I feel bad leaving him, but he insists that both of us shouldn't miss it.

I'm so glad to know the trial implant helped with his pain Vikki. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed he comes out of this pain free. How wonderful!

Let us know how he's doing, please. Didn't realize that he was having it done until I read your post.

I wish Twinkie would look into something like that. We're looking at surgery #3 in the next month or so.

Oh Vikki I know how how much he has suffered and I hope this is as successful as the temporary one was.

You know how excited I am for you and your DH!!!! I hope so much it gives you back your life together--you know, going places and having fun which is impossible with a bad back. Let us know how he's doing--how long before he can drive, etc???
