I'm not a Union fan one little bit, but if someone in the Union would be upset with you, then you need to be a professional and stand up for yourself. Not complaining but a statement of facts if asked. You will do your job very well and want to maintain your standards without complications..(co worker) Hold your head up high. You just as worthy of a fair evaluation as anyone. Just a clue, some of the co workers buddies probably already know what she's like. I think you have a good plan. Stay level headed, stay strong, do your work extra well. Keep in touch with your supervisor, isn't that what he's for anyway? I mean doesn't he have to know what is happening, good or bad? HE should have to deal with what ever happens to the neglected clients. That's her job and HIS job to make sure she is keeping up. I was thinking about my various jobs in the past. I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem letting any of my supervisors in on a problem that I could not take care of myself. Isn't it destructive to have her neglecting her clients and passing them on to you when your hands are already full? Ask your boss to help you solve this by first stating what you want to do to fix this, asking for him to be there for you if your co worker needs help understanding her job requirement/ duties. HE should be the one investigating though. Is it so hard to actually see what her work load is, and what your work load is? Isn't there some sort of paper work that indicates what work goes to who. (did that make sense?) Plain and simple, she's going to have to find someone else to walk on. You can do your clients and learn to say NO to her. I think you are really giving her way to much power. Sure the politics are intimidating but you can show anyone your worth by acting worthy. I kinda doubt Karma will catch up with her, I DO think that her refusal to do her job in a timely manner will catch up with her. What does your supervisor say about that? It's not your responsibility to micro manage HER is it?

Susan- I'm not sure how things are done in your office but I have a question. If your supervisor were to write her up or put her on probation or give her a bad review - would anything be done? Or would the union jump in and protect her? As a former supervisor for a branch library I had difficulty trying to get one particular library clerk to do her job. I supervised 10 employees- and this one woman was in charge of the other 4 assistants and she made out their work schedule. Needless to say she gave herself the best schedule, long holiday weekends called in sick every time we had work to do that she didn't want to do and gave herself all the simple easy tasks. She'd been getting away with this for years under the previous head who looked the other way and gave her great annual reviews. Unfortunately I was unaware of her history and I wasn't permitted to see her previous employee reviews. I came into the library and tried to make changes that were fair to everyone. She resisted my suggestions. She would call in sick and then we'd see her on the sidewalk with her friends or she'd call one of the girls in the office and tell her that she was out shopping. I wrote a detailed employee manual and job description based on our library's policies and Civil Service (union) descriptions and then had a meeting and asked everyone how we could implement this to make the library more efficient, eliminate work backlogs and create a more pleasant work environment. Everyone agreed to the proposed changes and willingly worked to improve our library. Everyone except one. When the time came for her annual review I tried to go a little easy on her, it was honest without being brutal and I praised her for the things she did well (not many) and made suggestions for improvement. She went to the union and complained that I was harassing her and since her previous ratings had been good it was difficult to argue against that. The union representative went to my supervisor and complained. My supervisor gave me my annual rating and critiqued me for being too harsh on one employee. After a year of that I decided to transfer to another branch. It just wasn't worth the hassle especially with the union backing her. What options are available to your supervisor? Is there a written, detailed job description that lists all the duties your coworker is expected to perform? Is there a daily or weekly checklist that he could use to measure her performance? You're right that you boss is responsible for making sure she does her job. It not only affects your work but also the moral of the entire office. Good luck.

Yes the wall color has to change .Ia m not so sure you need a bunch of little decor stuff at all. The space looks well organized and displayed . Less stuff at the counter maybe a nice large piece of tranquil art where all the little pieces are now . I think in front of the till needs to be free of display so customers have room to stand and a place to put purchases . I find a lot of little stands just a cluttered look . You have honey where are the containers for the honey? A nice stool to be able to sit at the counter would be better than a chair and on wheels even better . IMO astore needs to not have too much stuff not related to what you want to sell . All handouts near the door in one rack , what is the purpose of the cabinet by the shopping carts ? The whole point is to sell heakth itms so less stuff that makes the space look even busier than needed is not good . Please no grass growing over your head ever . Good lighting and IMO not flouescant but at least chnge those bulbs to LEDs you are a health store so the lighting needs to be better for your health . I like stores to have very distnct organization of like products not organized by supplier but by use . When looking bor Vitamin B for instance I want to see all those choices in one place not scattered every where . I know ome suppliers are very adamant about their stuff together but you need to talk to the customers about what they like .
