Gosh, thank you. A post for little ol' me? It was repairs, remodeling, and projects that brought me here. Some things have been posted in the appropriate forums. Hope you can find them? But the Kitchen Forum seemed to have the most activity over all the others. It's a fun place with lots of variety. Speak honestly, good/bad, like/dislike, pros/cons. Thanks again to all who have joined in, and thanks for making it an interesting hangout. Anyone coming this way, make it summertime and we can meet at my office (aka 'the beach').

I have seen some of your posting's in the "appropriate forums" OldFixer , I was particularly impressed with the windows you stripped all the layers of old paint off, using a heat gun. I can appreciate all that hard work as I also did that to 23 windows in the 1925 era gingerbread brick house that I grew up in. If the gals on this forum figure out just how talented and handy you are you could become the go to person when they need some advice on how to fix something around the house... lol

Glenda - that word is a generic term, not meant to label anyone in a certain category. Someone seems to think I said ALL Southerners were hillbilies who drink moonshine. My quite successful boss is a stout Southerner, and we have fun, interesting conversations about Yankees/Hillbillies. I know he has access to moon, but won't bring me any!! Glad this is called the Kitchen TABLE, not the kitchen ISLAND.

Yes, welcome OldFixer. I think it's okay to have differing opinions and I for one didn't think what you *actually* said sounded nearly as bad as the paraphrasing people are making of it.

OldFixer, you didn't ruin anything for me. Your post wasn't mean-spirited or offensive; you just expressed your reaction to a recipe that didn't sound good to you. So you won't try it, and that's okay. Everyone to their own taste, as my grandmother used to say.

Plenty of people hijack threads every day on the KT. I don't see them jumped on, accused of things they didn't actually say, have their old welcome threads dug up specifically to rescind the welcome while attempting to publicly shame them by saying they ruined an entire thread. All of this for stating a recipe sounds gross.

Posts take new directions ALL the time. I have never, ever seen someone else treated like this.

Because of the brouhaha on the original thread, I am starting a new one. Please keep any snide, snippy comments to ourselves, please. There is no reason to make nasty, ridiculing comments about peoples' tastes in foodstuffs. Differences are what make our wonderful world so very, very interesting.

You should maybe follow your own advice.

Just because someone doesn't like a particular dish; in particular your shrimp and grits, why jump all over the poster. If I liked ketchup on something and someone said that was childish for doing that I don't get all upset and take it personally.

And I sure wouldn't ask to get a new thread started. Are YOU the KT Forum Police? We do have them, people get threads pulled if they don't like them.

Old Fixer didn't do anything wrong, and threads get hijacked all the time.

To "unwelcome" someone shows that you are the immature one. He was a great guy one day and because he disagreed with your dish, now he's not even welcome???

Being a "yankee" from the cold, cold, barren, snow covered and soon to be deep freeze of Northern Wisconsin, I don't have a lot of experience with grits. But I do know cheese well, and the recipe sounded good to me! I can understand why the comments made were offensive to some. I am really jealous of you Southerners this time of the year, I would love to be "freezing" in 50 degree weather, lol. AND you have some great college football teams that are really fun to watch! Seriously, we are not all that different. We have great medical centers, we hunt and use what we kill, and we do have manners in the North. Why don't we capture the essence of the season and let this rest? Peace to all.
