The content of this thread certainly wasn't what I expected! It's fantastic that you are able to provide them with such amazing documentation for their anniversary. But... I'm surprised by your statement that you graduated in 1938. Are you in your 90s and posting here and surfing the web?!

What good fortune for the school that you are willing and *able* to provide firsthand, personal background of your years there -- and information dating to the school's founding. Let us know how it goes!

To answer the question--yes, I am 92, and yes, I have been using the Internet for many years. My first computer was in the 80's, a TI-99-4A, which used the television as a monitor. I'm not as adept as some on the computer but in this Senior Living place where I live I am better than many.

I have thought about posting some memories of "how it was back then" but haven't been sure whether it would be interesting to the KT members. Maybe I will do it!

You go SeniorGal!!! I would love to read your memories here on the KT. One of my biggest regrets is not recording conversations with my beloved grandmother.

I would love to hear your memories too. My own mother would have been 97 this year, had she not passed on 9 years ago, and my dad.... wow, my dad would have been 110!! I used to love listening to his stories about his growing up years. He was a born story teller!

My DM would have been 87 yesterday. She passed in 2009 and wanted nothing to do with computers. ;)

And yes, we would LOVE to hear stories of your memories, Seniorgal! I've always been interested in the era when you were young and for that reason subscribe to Reminisce Magazine, although the memories readers send in do not go as far back as they used to fifteen years ago, naturally.

Oh yes, do share whatever memories you can with us. I had a 94 year old neighbor (some years ago) who had lived thru the SF earthquake of 1906.... and she kept me mesmerized by the stories she told, as a single woman living an traveling in that era. She really helped me to appreciate the time I lived in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada... and I grew up in SF so we shared that common ground. People, and their memories are so important to make our history come alive.

I knew your age from your past postings and so appreciate your abilities to use technology so well. I am delighted to see that.
What I want to know is what is your secret to having such a great memory and such a clear mind. I am finding it hard to remember things from my past and I have always had a very sharp memory.
So give us some of your secrets and tricks!

Well, Ravencajun, I think mostly I came from a long-lived family.

One thing I do that is supposed to be helpful, though I do it because I enjoy it, is doing puzzles. Every morning I do the Crytoquip and both of the crosswords in the Minneapolis paper. I have done thousands of them over the years.
During the 7 years that my first husband was ill and often in hospitals or rehab, I found I could carry puzzles with me as a means to pass the long waiting times.

Of course my 4 daughters are very computer literate, My youngest, who has worked for a big Tech company for years, has strongly encouraged me and has helped me out of some computer problem situations.

One thing about living to my age is that one finds fewer folks who can empathize with my era. Not too many, even here, are interested in the same things as I am. That's one reason that I enjoy this board.

We had an active writer's group here for a while, but, sadly, all of the other members have died. That does something to you, believe me.

We would love to have you be our KT writer's group leader! You started it with your school story, continue with more stories. And hopefully others will just jump in and tell their stories. It would be great fun to see real life stories. I love reading this kind of stuff.

I agree with you that doing puzzles and word games is very stimulating to the mind. I have several word games on my tablet and do some daily.
I will add more crosswords to the list.

my mother hated hs so much the senior book she had, she must have tossed! it wasn't in her things when she moved here..in fact, some papers of my dad I had seen as child weren't either...it was during the depression and of course being farming family they were hit the hardest. kids that been her "friends" dropped her...think she said she had 2 dresses to wear and it embarrassed her dreadfully....

what a wonderful legacy and family tradition you have to share! unless your family is interested in keeping your things I'd donate them to the school....I'm always so sad that my children want very few of the things I have collected or were my mother's....they tell me to sell them!

My Aunt Marion, not my real aunt, but my mother's only remaining high school friend, is 100. We visit her at least once a year when we're in Michigan. I love prompting her to tell stories of when she (and my parents) were young. Her stories of living through the Great Depression are heart rending, and she and her family weren't as bad off as some. She is a wonderful old soul with a great memory, coupled with intelligence and a great wit. Every year, I fear it will be our last visit, but it was fun visiting her this September, and I hope there'll be many more visits. Her sister lived to be 107.
