Someone stole 3 sets of very special expensive LCD lights off of one of our trees probably while we were out today. Stripped the whole tree. They were the kind of LCD lights that flashed different colours. Over a hundred dollars worth of lights gone! They started off being pastel colours in the dusk and bright colours in the dark. They were the centerpoint of our decorations this year. Of course they didn't steal the cheaper common lights....oh no, they had to steal the best. I am not a happy camper tonight.

So sorry to hear that Heather. Sounds like what people do around here. We don't decorate much for that very reason.

Yes, For instance, the soil forum has both a conversations and a gallery sub forum. You can then upload pics to the GW server (under 64k I think) that way there is not need for having the photoson a separate webserver. Seems it would be far more useful to people here than a convo pit.

For some reason while driving in the car, i picked up a radio station in Minneapolis, Minnesota, probably a 5 hour drive from us, some of the things the man said on talk radio were so true, you spend all the time picking out gifts, only you argue with maybe a spouse if you should get it or the other thing (fighting), the greed in the person getting the gift, the have to spend time with "those relatives) and it went on and on like this, and the ending was what is so Merry about Merry Christmas? I think one of the most perfect gifts for me would probably be that everyone at my house could fend for themselves and basically let me stay in bed and just leave me alone - lol, but that will never happen! we took Matthew to work for 7 am this morning, on the way there people were at future shop (your american best buy) they opened at 6, Wal-mart was a zoo, Carley and i stopped in there on the way home, give me a pat here, we came out empty handed, and to zellers at the mall(these stores may be bought by Target). it was crazy all over the place, so much for peace and goodwill towards men, people were like they came out of a jungle, they were rude, mean and just well......!-lol. I'd much rather "chat" with all of you here! Enjoy your day, we're starting - Carley and I our holiday jigsaw puzzle, drive carefully too, it's raining here! and 33! ps think of Matthew working at the sporting goods store today, hope is doesn't get hit with a hockey stick by anyone! debbie

I love the angel story. I love the thought of Cherryfizz learning mew and growl - my dogs only speak growl but I'm getting there. I love the bake a cake. A few weeks ago someone in this country had a special display at their dungeon at the castle (a tourist attraction, you understand, not a private home!). Instead of 'Santa's Grotto' they had 'Satan's Dungeon', where the song being played was 'Robins roasting on an open fire'. People called the local radio station and said it was an insult to Christianity. I found it hysterical - and I'm a Christian priest. OK, I wasn't so taken with Satan but the robins ......ROFLMAO! Santas and robins are OK - but they're not the reason for the season. Family-feeling is great - but it's not the reason. Being generous is great - but it's not the reason. I'm listening to a TV programme behind me now about gift-buyers for the stars in the States and they're talking about how big 'A Patriotic Christmas' is this year. Don't get me wrong there is NOTHING wrong with loving one's country, I'm patriotic - but it's not the reason for the season. There are so many things, perfectly nice things in themselves, that have been added to the celebration of Christmas over the centuries that the world is in dire danger of forgetting entirely the real reason - the birth of the Saviour of the World. Everett - please don't be offended if I say that maybe you've been given the best Christmas present of all - that awful feeling that it's all hollow, what's being presented to us and that there has to be something more. There is - and you're ready to find it, to find God in Christ. If you think it's right, pray, ask Jesus to come into your life. It's not a magic, instant formula, not many people ever see fireworks, I never have. But this might just be the time your life begins to change. Take care, Alice

Darling baby, kgwlisa. This is my Christmas spirit right here!! We had a little accident with my holiday decorations this year and I spent a better part of Saturday trying to find replacements. I had a snow globe leak in a rubbermaid tote full of decorations. It sat and sat all year and when I opened it up, everything was covered in this horrid black mold. :( Some of those decorations I have had quite awhile and I felt really bad. But I still put up the tree and garland, my holiday houses and my nativity set. My kids got so excited for the nativity set. The older two both wanted to be the ones to put baby Jesus in his place. THAT is what Christmas means to me. I was worrying a little about what gifts to get for people, how was I going to get all the decorations out, when would I get the Christmas cards done??? Who cares. If someone misses my card or doesn't like my gift then boo freakin who. It's not about all that. Life is so complicated that I just really have to do what really counts this year. My baby has been in the pediatric ICU several times this past year and I am just thankful to be together at home. All those kids and babies in the hospital for Christmas makes my heart break. I so hope we can get through the holidays without her going in again. I think when we get stressed, it's because we're focusing on what other people make Christmas out to be instead of what it really is and should be.

This is the first I have heard of this kind of stealing. Some people just stink. Now what will you do? Will you put new lights up or leave as is?I don't know what I would do.

They were nice lights too! Heather was very happy to find two additional sets this year so I can just imagine how nice that tree looked. Wonder if she'll find them listed on Kijiji tomorrow but how do you prove they were yours.

I wonder how many of those Christmas inflatibles will fall victim to knives.
It used to be that vandals just took a single bulb. I guess now it is the whole string. Guess the Grinch really tried to steal Christmas!

With the way the ecomony is, I am not surprised. It is sad and I feel for Heather. Even if they catch them, they probably won't do anything. I would put out a BIG sign, and tell everyone about it and be Grinch--no decorations. But then it probably won't do any good except make me feel worst.

Unfortunately there is no point in calling the police. They are too busy to deal with small complaints like this. The thieves know this, and are likely not to be caught. What we can do is try to put a notice in the paper where they do bricks and bouqets and see if it gets inserted. If it was a teen that stole it, the parents may see the post and put two and two together when their kid comes home with lights that were not in a box. We will drive around and see if we can spot the lights...they are really unusual, I've never seen them up on anyone elses property before and at least we will get an idea of who might have taken them even if we can't prove it.

I would call the television station. There will be other stories like stealing the nativity from the poorest church in town. However, your story would be first.
