IF.. big if there ... i recall ... it was cold and wet in highly organic MI peat soil in spring ... presuming of course.. it wasnt dead before winter.. lol .. who knows.. maybe summer killed it.. and being evergreen.. i didnt know it was dead until spring ... i do remember asking some hardcore local gardeners.. if it was worth trying again ... and their caveat was.. NO WET FEET ... they are complete weeds at this house.. cold Z5 MI .... which means hot in summer... in full drainage mineral sand .... and really cold in winter with howling winds .... which always brings me back ot my sand .... someone may also have suggested.. in MI .. repeated thaw and freeze cycles of the organic soil in spring ... also ... all suggestions lead to root rots.. for sure ... ken

Welcome etp. Wintersowing is a great way to start new plants and such fun. I started out slowly several years ago and now do hundreds of of containers each year. Hardy perennials are sown anytime after solstice. This is a good time to start in our zone. I have a few jugs sown and will sow more tomorrow. Annuals can be sown also though in Z: 4 I wait until late March/early April to sow those. As you can see from the comments above, one only needs to use a few strips of tape to close the containers, not wrapped around as shown in the video. I enjoy those KARE 11 garden clips but they just hit the high points as they are limited in time. Glad that you did some more research and found this site. People here are very helpful and friendly.

Thanks Jim!!!! I'm still really excited about it working!!! I have some news about my eyes. I went to the retinal specialist. They put 3 different types of drops in my eyes. I had to pry my eyes open so they could keep going with the drops. Blech. So he said that I have retinal deterioration. Do I have RP (retinitis pigmentosa - where you get tunnel vision and go blind). He said maybe. I asked if there's a chance I could go blind. He said that it isn't a matter of when, but that I'm probably legally blind ALREADY!!! So he's sending me (in a few months probably) for this procedure that's like an EKG for the eyes. If it shows that I'm legally blind, then I won't be able to drive anymore. This would be terrible, because I have trouble walking around where I live because of all of the inclines/declines - it's hard on my ankles, and I just got over having ankle tendinitis (a whole year of it). I love driving to the off-leash areas to take my dogs for a walk. It's so much fun. Anyways, the good news is that he said my vision will get gradually worse - but very slowly. So if I'm not legally blind yet, then I can probably drive for a few more years. Now, I'm asking for prayers that: a) I'm not legally blind b) that I can handle being legally blind if I am. I knew you were facing a battle getting what your daughter needed, but the pneumonia on top of it is a double whammy! I’m happy to hear that you’re on the mend, and I’ll bet those new roses are making you eager to get gardening again.
