Assuming I could take all my friends and family with me (!), the thing I would miss most about this area is the countryside . . . and my beautiful 30 acres.

I would dearly miss the change of seasons.
I LIKE the snow, as much as I like the other weather options we have here. I would NOT like tornadoes or hurricanes, or even the possibility of those!

I would also miss the hills and mountains... much prefer those over flat terrain.

I couldn't move unless I moved to a warm climate....and probably the only state I'd move to would be Louisiana...much like where I live. I like Tennessee, but gets a little too cold there for me. I honestly am miserable if the temp falls much below 65*. So climate is a biggy for me. Also privacy. I have the best of both worlds here....very private and no close neighbors but close enough to the city that if I need anything from there, it is only about a 45 minute drive.

I would miss the seasons. I love the changes of the weather, the interest in a big wind/rain/snow storm as it approaches. I enjoy our 75-85 degree summers (July/August), but I am always ready for the fun of our fall and winter weather...and yes, I lived in California for a while. I was SO glad to get back to Western Washington weather!

Family most of all. Then the ease with which I can get around the area I know so well after 34 years. I know where things are and how to locate services and supplies. I love living in a temperate climate, and I would not move back to snow, ice and humidity.

I am satisfied with the medical, some shopping but I would miss my great grandbabies and granddaughters. I would like to live in a bigger town, but due to the oil, prices are thru the roof. I do not like small town politics, and I try to stay away from them as much as I can. But I do know there are many who whould help me out if my kids couldn't since my DH is gone now. Even the local truckers. I like the cold, not the ice and people in the most part are very nice in the stores.

We don't do relocation. My DH changed jobs to avoid it. We would miss too many things - although we wouldn't miss the housing prices. We could bank a boat load of money if we relocated to any other market in the country.

I am a native Californian but after 8 years here in Iowa I just could not relocate. This is my home. In addition to friends and family here, I would miss the frendliness of the people, the change of seasons, the lack of crime and traffic. Most of all I would miss dear little Finn, who just turned 3 and is the light of my life.

I would really miss the weather and being close to the ocean.
Our county has always been a tourist destination.

As much as I crank and complain about the snow and long winters here in North Central MN (who else here on KT can claim to have to hand shovel the township road some mornings just to get the car unstuck and to work on time?!) I would miss the beautiful lake that's just outside our house...the deer that visit our back yard in the winter, the clean air, clean water. Not much crime; people who care and are willing to help.

I think I could be happy anywhere....
.......so I'd miss a particular thrift store that I get great deals at..... a particular Safeway store that has 75% off blue tag deals....and "The Garden Of The Gods" park I jog every day.

I also like the idea of seeing a bear, a herd of deer or wild turkeys when I'm walking down my street.

Having just relocated from Extreme SE GA, I miss my yard. Here we bought a garden type of home, so Tony wouldn't have yard work to do. I miss the ease of traffic, we moved from a small town to Birmingham, AL a very busy traffic town. I have had to practically had learn how to drive again. LOL I miss the commissary on base, groceries are expensive compared to the base. I miss the doctors I had and the ease in which we got along. Having to start over with doctors has been a pain..

I don't miss having to drive 45 minutes to a mall or a good restaurant. I don't miss being away from family. I do like that we moved back to my old stomping grounds so I am somewhat familiar with the area, although it has grown quite a bit. I don't miss Tony working nights. I do miss my son who is still in school in GA.

Overall I am happy here. Except for missing my son.

Since both sides of my family came here 310 years ago, we must like PA since most never left. I would not move one mile south of here, because i can't stand the heat. Since I never lived a day outside of PA, it would be very strange to live anywhere else. My dogs and I walked ankle deep thru golden leaves today. Maybe in a week it will hopefully be snow. Family is here so I'd never leave. The only other places in the country I'd live are northern New England and Washington State.

As with Fun and Carol, I would miss our year around great weather and the ocean. BUT, if my family is near me I can live anywhere and be happy.

I like the change in seasons too, but if I moved I would miss the amenities I have in this town.
Walking distance to the beach, parks with brooks running through them, marshlands, historic buildings, 45 minutes away from NYC.
We have a wooded area behind our yard, so I see trees outside my kitchen window.
We often talk about relocating. My husband loves, (did I say loves?) warm weather. We bought a house in Florida that we are currently renting, so we might eventually go back and forth.
We live in an expensive town and many neighbors in our age group have sold and moved once the kids are done with high school. But for us, we can't decide where our next NY home should be.

The change of seasons. I love fall, my favorite season but I like spring too. I love to be in a warm house watching the snow come down in big fat flakes but don't like the slop what comes later. You people in the north know what I mean. I don't like the cold weather because I am always cold. The perfect plan for me would to be in a northern state in the summer, home in the spring and fall and in the south January through March but the perfect plan will never really happen for me.

I don't see us uprooting at this stage of our lives, not after all the effort we put into moving a dozen years ago.

DH and I grew up in suburbs of Chicago. Once he didn't need to commute into the city, it took us three years to find our dream location. We did a teardown to build a new house on an old street in an historic, forested town along Lake Michigan.

We love our house and acre-plus lot on a 'country' lane. We are beside a creek, backing to a conservancy with only two neighbors within 'shouting distance' -- but minutes from a RR station, expressway, and the beach. We're still very close to a wide variety of shopping, top medical care, and entertainment. DS and family are 25 minutes south -- expressway driving. We aren't wealthy, but this town is, giving us stable property values with excellent schools and city services for our taxes. (Local obits are history lessons on Chicago's movers and shakers -- and some 'shockers'! LOL)

We enjoy three beautiful seasons here, and a taste of winter. We escape to Maui for two months -- glad to have a major airport nearby yet *unheard* from our home.

First of all friends and family. walking downtown and knowing so many people who smile and say hello. My doctors and organizations I belong to and support. I would certainly miss the three so very different seasons. Our winters are very very cold , which makes us appreciate the wonderful spring season, and our wonderful Falls with the fields of wheat and grains being harvested and all its lovely colors. Hope I never have to move.

We "did" relocate from the north (Ohio) to the south (Georgia) and will never relocate again. We LOVE Georgia. We don't miss a thing about the north.

I would miss my family if they did not go with me. I would miss my home and the weather I love snow and the changing seasons. I could not tolerate hot weather all of the time. I like to be snowed in by myself too.

After thinking about this for a while, I think that I would miss my friends most of all. I could probably live anywhere but I think it would be so cool to be able to live in a place where I could garden year round and never be cold again.

Arkansas girl put it perfectly.....We live in Pa., I go to Florida for 6 weeks in the winter, sometimes hubby comes down, sometimes not...But, I'm trying to talk him into buying a little place in paradise for those cold winter months and being in Pa the rest of the year....Our kids are all grown so we're not needed here to take care of them....Although he loves it in Florida, I can't seem to get him to budge......................So I keep telling him, I love him dearly but if he want's to stay in the cold, I'll miss him.....

Since I have an old one of a kind home, it would be hard to replace that. I love the location here. Three minutes to the 14 movie complex, four minutes to a mega grocery store, two miles to doctor and dentist, five minutes from daughter and 15 minutes from son. Three hours to the ocean, two hours to Phila, three hours to NYC, and two hours to Baltimore and DC. Perfectly located.

The friendly people. I noticed the difference on our trip out West this past Summer. The closer we got out West...mostly in Utah, the more unfriendly and downright rude people got. People in Kentucky are extremely friendly even to complete strangers.

I don't like the cold weather here, though, and wish I could go south. I also don't like humidity...so I'm not sure where that would put me. Once the kids finish college I have no idea where they will end up. Or if I'll stay here. I have some friends, not real close ones, though.

We relocated from Georgia to Alabama a couple of years ago. The weather is basically the same so that's not an issue.

I mostly miss my doctor and dentist. I have found a good dentist here but I'm not happy with my doctor and I'm still looking for a replacement. It's not easy.

Yes I have!! His name is Bob Gilbert. He almost walks you your car talking. He doesn't mind if he is called Bob. I call him Dr.Bob. He is in Trussville. He works out of Premier Urgent Care Clinic I think the name of it is, you can make appts. or walk in & they are pretty good at getting you back within like 15 minutes of your appt. time. The phone number is (205)623-3220. They are open Sunday thru Friday. They take apptsl. Monday-Friday. On Sunday it is first come first served(we have never had to wait on a Sunday). The staff is friendly and nice. Plus they take the military insurance, a lot of doctors don't accept TriCare Prime Retired.

This subject was a real eye-opener for me. Other than my doctors--and I'm really sort of dependent on them right now--I couldn't think of a single thing I'd miss. Maybe I should reconsider moving back down south after I know I'm going to be okay and with the doctor's permission.

Also the housing market needs to gear up around here before I could consider selling.

When moving, trying to find new health care providers can be difficult. We were fortunate in finding a great family doctor. Then financially he had to give up his practice but referred us to another doctor whom we like really well. For us elderly on Medicare, it gets harder and harder to find a provider who takes Medicare. Our opthamologist is excellent and my orthopedic doctor was "taught" by my orthopedic surgeon in Ohio, so we really lucked out there. Found one dentist....horrible. Found another, good but extremely expensive. Can't find an old fashioned dentist who will just clean my teeth and that's all.

I did relocate some years ago and I can tell you that I still miss:
the quality of the fresh food available in NYC
The restaurant food
the cultural events easily available in NYC, much better than in Florida
Autumn in NY
Christmas season in NY
I could go on and on. We relocated for the health benefits for my dh, and it did give him many more years of life. He passed in 2009, but he loved living in Florida. During the years we did sometimes visit family in NYC, and enjoyed that, but inevitably, had to return to Florida. Now, thankfully, my children are have relocated near me, so that is a compensation.

The changing of the seasons and living in the country.
The first snowfall of the season, beautiful fall leaves, and spring. The slow days of summer and sipping iced tea.

We moved far from our family in 1977. Big move to the great state of Texas from Ohio. Big change for me who was so used to being around our family. Really missed them. But I made up my mind that this was where my family was now and learned to just go with the flow. High phone bills in those days back home. Now we are in Georgia and we are closer to Ohio but not back home. Weather is still hot like Texas in the summer but we do have seasons here. I think that wherever your family is is home. I still miss my sisters and cousins and their families. Parents are all gone now. We are the older generation now. I do have a sister and her family nearby, one son here in Georgia and 2 grandchildren. The other son and his family live in Florida. So we travel more. Home is where the heart is,

I guess I would miss friends, the change of seasons, being within an hour's drive of the ocean, proximity to two large cities (Boston and Providence), the convenience of services, shoppping, transportation, doctors, etc. Last year I sold the house I lived in for 35 years and moved into an apt. I haven't missed it at all but I am within 8 miles of where I lived before.

lol..we moved from san diego to Detroit, for a job...and as I watched the game yesterday with bright sunshine at the new stadium with the heat on, and dh ouside blowing leaves..wondered why! but then as a cyber pal said as they landed in orange county, people going 70 mpr in 4 lanes of heavy traffic and smog everywhere, she remembered!

I have lived in the northeast, on the west coast, in the south Pacific, and now, the southeast, in that order. I've visted all over. And I love all of this great land. I liken it to having children. There is something good and bad about every age (0-12, they can't do anything on their own, but a whole world is opening right before their eyes, for example). There is something good and bad about every place. I've lived in small towns and bigger cities. And visited, on an ongoing basis, larger cities. I like them all.

I'd miss my family, because somewhat like lily, my family has been here since the late 1700s. They've been born here, died here, there is history here on which they've made their mark. Currently, everyone in my immediate family lives here, and I love seeing them constantly. All year long.

The weather is great in Tennessee. Not too hot, not too cold. The humidity typically doens't bother me as it does those who visit. We don't get snow storms. We get an inch or two at a time. Four inches+ is very atypical. The change of seasons is the part I embraced first when I moved here from the extemely even Monterey, CA (which was fantastic because it was very even keel and never too cold or too hot. But not hot enough I could walk barefoot outside).

I guess I'd learn to love wherever I landed, just like I always have. It did take me 20 years, literally, not to miss California food. The freshest seafood and produce. Mmm. What I'd miss about Tennessee? Yep, just family. It's nice here, but distinctive terrain, weather, etc.? Not really.
