Yes, I've done that. Kept this one going for a while and then got tired of too many pots around and tossed it. There are lots of things you can grow from the grocery store. Once there was a very long thread over in the gardening section where everyone shared things they have grown from the grocery store. I've also grown garlic. I think you can do ginger too.

I've done the same as you Old Fixer. It grew, but the cats liked chewing on the tips, and it was so sharp. I threw it out eventually.
Good for you for having it that long! How tall is it??

Maybe they won't produce fruit indoors, similar to avocados

My plant produced a pineapple after about 4 yrs. I was living in Orlando where its warmer. That was the sweetest and best pineapple I ever had, it was tiny though.

I have done the pineapple and avocado and cut green onions and cut celery and lots of sweet potatoes .

By the way jasdip how is your orchid doing? Mine are putting out new flower spikes right now.

This summer we toured the only pineapple plantation in the USA. I learned: Just about any part of a pineapple will grow into a plant and produce fruit. Given all the proper temps and sun and water it takes two years to produce the first single fruit. Each year after the plant will produce but the fruit will be smaller each subsequent year. The plantation only allows a plant to produce twice before it is dug up and the process is begun again. To get it to work state side one needs to be sure it is getting 12-14 hours of sun A DAY for two years.

Pineapple are on average $3.00 in the store--think about it.....

Raven, my orchid literally blooms non-stop. The flowers all finished, and right away, new buds were forming. I have flowers and buds pretty much all the time. Having said that, I do have 1 stem which hasn't formed buds yet, but I'm sure that it will!

Here is a recent pic. What I do find unusual, is that it also grows new leaves regularly. It's quite a bushy plant now!

It's a very happy orchid! Very beautiful too.
Mine were in flower too then about a week ago the last flowers fell off and the stalks turned brown, I need to cut those back. Then suddenly I noticed that they were all putting out new bud stalks. I have several new leaves too.

I've grown green onions from the bottoms of the ones I got at the store.Only did it once just to try it.

I grow beautiful cymbidium orchids,but I can't grow those kinds you have inside to save my soul.
