What is the best part about the gender you are, and what would be the best part about being the opposite gender?

I love being a woman. I am a flirt but get along really well with most people, women and men. I think people still coddle women more than men, I wish more were equal, but I don't think that will change anytime soon.

Being a man would afford me some of those equalities, I work in a business where more and more women are getting the management roles now where it used to be an all-boys club, but the highest management is still all men.

For me, the best part of being a woman is the ability to give birth and breastfeed.

Men can pee with relative ease, but that doesn't compare to the above. LOL

Boy, that's a tough question. I don't know of a tomato that performs well in part shade. That said, the situation you describe should produce enough tomatoes providing the variety you choose is a good producer to begin with. There are other factors which may impact production as much as sunlight. They include zone, size of the pot, tomato variety, fertilizer, etc. Also, how do you plan to use the tomatoes? Do you need enough for canning, just enough for fresh eating, enough to sell? Don't mean to be difficult. Just trying to be helpful. I grow heirlooms mostly and I use 12 - 16 gallon pots. Tomatoes may be grown in 5 gallon pots, but with limited sunlight, I certainly wouldn't try it. The production would be very low. Here are a few dependable varieties that have excellent flavor and decent output. Cherry - gardeners delight, black cherry, galinas, sungold Paste - opalka, san marzano Beefsteak - goliath, Marianna's Peace, Ponderosa, Mexico, cherokee purple, Pruden's Purple ...gosh there are sooo many. Small - Eva's Purple Ball(my favorite small tomatoe for flavor and production), bloody butcher, break o' day Also, you may want to check out the tomato forum. I sold my manufactured home this past December and moved to an apartment in January. I had owned two manufactured homes over ten years but became tired of mowing the lawn and shoveling snow in winter. Now I am in a ground floor one-bedroom end unit apartment. It has a really nice den area with a large south facing window. There is plenty of green space and there are trees outside my unit, then a freeway and beyond that more woodland. There is a rail/trail at the bottom of the hill which extends into the woods and the other end into town. Just this morning I took a long walk in the woods and it was wonderful! With regard to noise; I do hear some of my upstairs neighbor's activity in his kitchen and bathroom from time to time, but I have never heard blaring stereos or TVs. Other than that, it is very quiet here. Since this is an end unit, I only have two neighbors attached to my unit; one upstairs and one behind my unit. Below me is a maintenance/storage area used by the maintenance staff. Since this is a college town, there are plenty of students in this and just about all other complexes in the area. It seems that most here are graduate students, though there is a mix of ages as I have seen middle age people like myself and some senior citizens as well. The kitchen is small, but adequate for my needs, but I especially like the den as it is almost like a sun room because of the south facing window. This makes my unit very bright. The other side of the building faces the parking lot and those units never see the sun. I am only 2.5 miles from work and can either walk or ride my bike into work when the weather is nice. I have done this all of this past week and it is great. I could not do that from where I lived before. With gas prices going out of sight, this is great! I am more and more happy with my move.

As Divamum noted- I am amazed at the change in quality of life for our whole family. We went from tiny horrible nasty 1920's kitchen (fridge blocked a doorway, no counter space, stove blocked doorway, no vent....) to a marvelous kitchen that has the perfect feel. We captured 1920's charm with modern convenience. The space is so functional now- so much counterspace that it doesn't matter if there's a mess, there's still plenty of room. There's better lighting, more room all over. Not to mention a Wolf range that is amazing and a nice new fridge (Thermador freedom). Nothing hides in the back, nothing freezes in the fridge. We have this marvelous invention that is called a "dishwasher". My whole adult life I'VE been the dishwasher... On top of the function, there is beautiful soapstone that goes without oiling for months, and a beautiful floor of checkered marmoleum. Most of all, the function and space have now set me free to cook with my kids and throw dinners together after a long day out at work. We did tons of holiday baking and used cookie cutters for the first time (never had a clean enough, roomy enough kitchen to take that sort of time and care). The sheer space and pleasantness make the kitchen a focus for lots of living and entertainment. I'll also note the little desk we worked in to the side corner allows my husband or I to work late, but still be with family, and/or allows my daughter to do crafts galore. I knew I was yearning for a new kitchen, but I never thought it could make this kind of difference.

Number 1...I love how my kitchen functions and how we can all be in the kitchen at once doing various things at the same time...it's become a favorite family gathering place! My DH & kids even seem to prefer watching the small TV in the kitchen to the larger one in the FR (of course, the fact that the kitchen is HD and the FR is not might also be a factor, but we're talking about a big difference in screen sizes!) When I started planning, it was for a better kitchen...but my real goal, subconsciously, was a kitchen that we could all enjoy working and gathering in. I didn't think about this consciously until I came here...thank you Sweeby! Other things... My prep sink b/c it makes my layout "perfect" in terms of workflow and zones. Trash pullout...I'm another one that absolutely hates a trash can under the sink or a bin/trashcan standing out in the open. My warming drawer b/c it's made dinner prep more relaxed, I no longer struggle to get everything done at the same time...if something's done early, no problem! Put it in the warming drawer...what a relief...no more cold veggies or rewarmed-up, now overcooked veggies while something else got cold while warming up the veggies...you get my drift, I'm sure! Drawers and finally, space for just about everything! Drawers fit so much and can be used in so many different ways w/no worries about things falling off and no getting on my hands & knees to access. Along with the drawers is the full-extension glides...no more scraping my knuckles trying to get to items in the back of the drawer. Soft-close is also nice (both drawers and doors), but as a "nice to have", not a "must"...full-extension is a "must", IMHO! My beloved cherry cabinets. I've always dreamed of cherry but never thought I'd actually have it! My speed-cook oven...I can now make baked potatoes & yams that taste baked, not microwaved, in about 20 minutes. I could go on, but I think I hit the highlights... For me it's only been two years, but I still look at my kitchen and sigh happily...and I still even occasionally do the "happy dance"!

Geez, where do I even begin.....

I can wake up, get dressed and be out the door in 5 minutes if I have to.

3 pair of shoes in the closet and every occasion is covered.

Everything I need for a two week vacation fits into a backpack.

I can be ticked off at my best friend to the point where I want to punch him out, and the next day we're ok. Women carry grudges.. for years. Life is short and so not worth it.

I never have to ask, "Do these pants make my butt look big."

I'm strong enough to open my own doors and ketchup bottles.

I don't have to worry about my underwire bra setting off airport security.

I could go on but you get the point.

Oh, gee.......I forgot about the ketchup bottles. This calls for a revision in my thinking. I'm even having trouble with water bottles these days.

Best part of being a woman for me is being able to give birth,breastfeed and nurture a child. I loved/love being a mother and would have had more children if I could have.

The rest of me is more male centered in the way I view the world. If I were a man I would be respected for being assertive,decisive and courageous. Because I am a woman I am considered to be a beeotch for the same traits. I have always envied men for the way they are perceived.

The irony is I get more flack about being "me" from women. Men are much more accepting of me the way I am. Get more respect from the male gender.

The best thing about being a woman is our ability to nurture close friendships. Men don't seem to have that trait. And of course the mothering part. My children are adopted but I still feel that I was their mother in every way.

I have only had to work 3 years to earn a living. I loved being a stay at home mom and wife. I would be very worried if the support of a family rested on my shoulders.

fran hits it when she mentions the ability to nurture close friendships. I'm an introvert. I also have never gotten into many of the male bonding rituals like hunting, fishing and sports. Through the years my closest friends have been women. I've been blessed to have been married to two women who have never been threatened or jealous of my friendships with other women. Two close friends have died in the last years. At this point I have many acquaintences but no really close friends. I miss that connection.

I like being female now but I don't think I would have in past generations. I hate the idea of relying on anyone else to support me. I see way too many women who leave careers to devote to families, only to be screwed over in a divorce later. With no relevant skills or experience, they basically have to start over to support themselves. I admire their strength and that they choose family over the risks but it's not for me. I love knowing I can always care for myself and, until recently, that wasn't always an option.

Other than that, I do like the more feminine things, like clothes and makeup. I don't spend a lot of time on it but I enjoy dressing up on occasion.
