Aw, you didn't get to hold the baby? What's a grandma to do? Too bad they didn't have to keep it longer, though. That would give them a better idea of parenthood.

He and I couldn't agree what to get his dad for his 46th birthday, this Saturday. Went to Bass Pro and youl woulda thought we'd find something. Left empty handed, BUT

GS did get to drive back to his mother's. Dang good driver!

He had better be a good driver with a baby in the car! I knew he would do well the minute you said he had to cut his talk with his favorite GM short because the baby was due to wake up soon. He shows a great sense of responsibility. Congrats. to PJR.

He did say baby woke up at 4 am, at different intervals, but he took care of it, and they both slept until time to get up for school.

GS has a 5 year old sister, so he's good with little ones :o)

I am totally confused by this post, but I don't have the backstory so let me see if I have it correct.

Was this a parenting class where your grandson had to care for an electronic doll that has memory to show how your grandson handled all the needs of the doll? If that is it, awesome job! If not, babies are $500? ;-)

Now I get what this post was about, I couldn't figure out why he got an A for having a baby for one day and it cost $500! I read the other post about why he had a baby for a night. Some of the things that went through my mind were pretty funny!

The $500 is the cost for each baby for the schools program, which I think is great.

Great for your grandson on getting an A. I think they should have a couple dozen of these babies in every single high school in this country. Hopefully this program gets more funding to do just that. And hopefully the kids get the baby for at least a week.

Glenda, I pray that someday, if and when I get grandbabies, that I will have the relationship with them that you have with your grandson. You two together remind me of how my mom and daughter were before my mom died. My daughter was only 11 at the time, but she still at 24 remembers her with such love and misses her so much. Almost as much as I miss her.

Noe *I* am confused. Your GS has a sister? I don't think I've ever seen you post about a GD.

'Baby wrangling' for only a day isn't going to teach much. If a student was issued a 'baby' for an unknown length of time...THAT would have an impact. Knowing in advance when the baby would wake is another misleading factor.

I wonder what would happen to birth rates if everyone contemplating having children was issued a TEENAGER for an unknown duration. LOL

chisue, GS's mother remarried after the divorce from my son and had a child. I don't have a GD.

GS had just taken the baby home from school, and knew when the baby would turn on for the FIRST time. The rest of the attending the baby was NOT regulated.

I am quite sure the school would not offer the program if they did not see any benefit EVEN for a short duration.

Sure hope this thread doesn't go downward. Was just sharing a time in my GS's life.

I don't think anyone is taking away from his success Glenda. It's not his fault that he could only do it for one day and it's still great that he did it so well.

I do agree that it would be more beneficial for a longer amount of time. Hopefully the school will continue to see the value of it and be able to offer a longer experience.

I wish I had one like that in high school. I had to carry around a 10 pound bag of beans for a week, lol.

OK, thanks for explaining. The five-year-old is your GS's sister, but not your grandchild.

Hey, I'm glad he did well! I wasn't questioning his performance, and I'm glad the 'baby' demanded attention at random times.

I wasn't familiar with a program like this that was only for 24 hours. I could probably even cope with parenting a teenager for a set length of time, knowing there was a time it would end. (Before you take offense, I'm talking teens in general. The year our DS was 17 was *unforgettable*! LOL)
