I understand your pain. We are currently dealing with an issue for the 1st time after living in our apartment for 30 years. The new tenants downstairs from us(6 months) cook heavily spiced food and it is suffocating. They cook several curries and other odd things but also use HEAVY amounts of cayenne pepper. This results in a heavy, oily curry smell that is also acrid and bitter. It is quite unbearable to breath the fumes all the time. I have resorted to putting Vicks on my nose or leaving our apartment. I understand their food may taste great, but living in an upstairs apartment the fumes and odors are like how smoke rises. It comes in under our cabinets, floors and any open window and it gets into everything. Our carpets, rugs, drapes, furniture, walls, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, towels and even the window screens stink to high heaven now, thanks to their cooking for 4-5 hours a day. We have to keep our clothes in plastic bags in the closet. The landlord tried to help by putting in a stronger fan over their stove but, thanks to terrible building design, the fan vents out right under our kitchen window and does no good IF they use it. So we have to keep all the windows closed and burn incense, candles, vinegar and water and use room spray constantly, plus wash curtains, screens, counter tops and vacuum 3-4 times a week to just temporarily lessen the smell in between their cooking sessions. And it never goes away. Our property management company doesn't do anything to help so I have spoken to our city rental mediation group and they say that "disagreeable odors" are a infringement of our "right to quiet enjoyment" (just as loud noise is) and it has NOTHING to do with discrimination since the tenants are also an "ethnic" group. It would make no difference if someone was cooking cauliflower, chocolate chip cookies or bacon for hours every day. Our issue is being addressed and we will mediate with the landlord for resolution. According to them, the landlord has to be "aware of his building limits" and has the right to notify people in advance of renting that "strong cooking odors" are not permitted. It also has to do with "destruction of property" as it will take a full replacement of several layers of paint, new carpeting, new blinds, new screens etc when the tenants move out. The odors are so strong that it is even in the paint on the OUTSIDE of the building. Our apartment will also need repainting and possible new carpets, regardless if we move out or not, and he can hold the tenants downstairs accountable for the full cost. So as far as people telling you there is nothing that can be done, that is not true. You have rights as an apartment tenant. We have been given bad or heavily opinionated advice from many people regarding our situation. Since the tenants involved in OUR situation are from an "ethnic minority" everyone thinks any action would be considered discrimination, but as I mentioned above, these types of situations have nothing to do with discrimination. Lots of people think the ONLY answer to tenant problems is to move which isn't always an option. Check to see if your city has a mediation board or group and talk to them. They may be able to help you, if your landlord won't, with the late night cooking issue. Good luck

L, it's something we like too, I like most "peasant food". We always called it "farmer food", and now it's called "southern food", LOL. But I was born in Michigan and my Grandmother is from Ohio, and we ate a lot of beans and cornbread, but we called it "Johnny Cake". Usually Navy or Great Northern beans, though, whereas Elery's Kentucky/Tennessee family mostly had pinto beans. Our cornmeal was yellow, theirs was white. Ours had a bit of sugar, maybe a tablespoon per batch, his had no sugar. His sister informed me at our first meeting that if it was made with yellow cornmeal and any sugar at all, it wasn't cornbread, it was cake. (grin) I was further instructed that cornmeal MUST be white, there must be no flour in the recipe, and no sugar, or it wasn't "right". I'm a heathen, though, I like it all! Annie

We went from a 20 year old Frigidaire quiet cleen to a new Bosch 300 series a few months back. I think around 2019 Bosch changed their rack design, and made some nice improvements to their product lines. I see no issues with thick heavy diner plates and bowls. Even ovesized banquet plates. It use to take 2 days to fill the older American style dishwasher that had only 2 baskets and a disposal for auto clean, with heated drying. Was as quiet as a 50db unit, but the new Bosch is 44db and holds 33% more and takes 3 to 4 days to fill, while cleaning 200% better. I don't need to use the flexible twin flatware baskets, as I can load small items and all my flatware in the 3rd rack nicely. I thought upgrading the flatware baskets would come in handy, but the upgrade to the flexible 3rd rack was the best overall. Though the myway 3rd rack would be better if, it were adjustable. Both have stong points but the adjustable 3rd rack is more versatile in the long run. I just dont have a comparison with old style tines, other than with our old one, that's now replaced, which we had to bend tines every so often to hold various placements. I have loaded plastic bottles by propping them up against each other with bowls along side to sturdy them. Being clear and tall, the cleaning is as good as by hand, and with fully loaded down the 3rd rack comes out 99% clean, with only the top rack water jets. Which is amazing, when the old washer had 85% cleanness with no 3rd rack. I could have bought a more expensive brand with more features, but I have yet to see reason for it, everything fits and gets cleaned proper 1st try! Right now my only setting is automatic sanitized clean with bumped up drying, and slightly lowered liquid drying additive from default. Using the new Finish tablet with hard water additive, as it is cheaper than (Fairy Platinum - Casscade Platinum) cleans just as well if not better, with having the built in hard water softener additive. For less than $470 scratch and ding sale, I made out like a bandit, having a slight crack on the finish along the top of the door, and with full warrenty as new. Without waiting on the order. Note, some have reported Miele 3rd rack tines breaking. The Bosch has better tines on its plastic 3rd rack. The myway has all metal tines with a side mounted plastic flatware tray. All the plastics in the Bosch are of high quality durable plastics. Though the standard style long thin and double flatware baskets are thinly molded, being used primarily on lower end models. I can imagine the grates to keep flatware upright, may crack or break from wear, being the weakest design of their offerings. Remember, the makes who have bells and whistles to make the best cleaning, often have issues with dependability over time. As the extra features are areas that will multiply the chances of failure.
