I feel your pain, I am getting daily calls from Miami, 2 within an hour for a guy whose name I have forgotten. One said it was about his job at walmart, another said it was about his meds. In reality it probably about his debts. They really want this guy. I am lucky I can block the number through Cox Cable who is my phone server and if I were you I would call your phone server and ask them about blocking that number. When I say block, what it actually says is that I am busy and can't take the calls right now.

I've been getting collection calls for the 9 years I've had my current phone number. The person who had the number before me was evidently a deadbeat and the collection agencies still can't figure out where she is. I am repeatedly telling them that she is no longer at this number; they stop calling temporarily and then start again. It is not only annoying but embarrasing when guests hear my voice mail go on and it is a debt collector!

I have the voice message option turned off on my home phone. I do have caller ID so I see who calls. If I miss a call from someone I know or need to speak to, it's easy to pick up or call them back.

I have a cell phone number that I give to practically no one. If one of the "chosen few", LOL, call that number they know they can leave a message if I'm not nearby to answer it.

Phones have gone from useful, needful, pleasant tools to horrible intrusions. I love to recieve calls from friends and family; I once had a 1/2 hour conversation with a "wrong number," but for the majority of the time now it's just an irritant.

Years and decades ago I quit "running to get the phone." It was taking up far to much of my mental energy and time.

Twice now we've had phone mail messages on a cell phone that pitch some weird thing and end with a recorded message: "This call is being monitored by officials at the Kankakee County Jail."

I'm sure anxious to respond to that one! LOL

Somewhere I read they are working on a law about Robo calls. Problem is many come from foreign countries and that presents different regulations--like none.
Don't know why, but I get very few calls since I moved and got a different number. I think my phone company gave me a brand new number that no one has had. But I do have a great phone company.

Yep. It all ended once I got a cell phone and dumped the landline. If you truly want it to end, that's the only way I can think of.

My son used to get a phone call from a fund raising entity and he would tell them he wasn't Jennifer, and they would call and call and call. Until the day I got on the phone and told them he was a minor, stop calling him!

Same thing with an attorney's office. His name is the same as attorney, but with a different suffix, like John Smith, Sr. instead of Jr.. He was getting legal stuff. We'd email them and say please stop emailing me! Until one day, I decided to call wherever I had to call. The funny thing is, with Yahoo, it could've been anywhere. He was in our state! Anyway, when they found out they were emailing private client stuff to a minor, that ended immediately.

Being a minor removes him from most every list.

I have to say, I really feel your pain marita. I have a deadbeat ex and they try to find him at my address. Even though I moved after divorcing. And telling them where to find him. You'd think they would want to know how to find them. Guess not! I can't wait until the day they knock on my door and I can show them face to face any and all paperwork that shows he's not there, and will never be associated with me again.

The aggravation from many but not all of such calls can be avoided. As a simple start, I agree with rob that such calls rarely come on my cell phone.

For landlines, some Panasonic cordless phones have a "block caller" function as part of the internal phone book. In addition to adding a number as a contact for future reference, you can also add one to the book as "block this contact". It's easily done and works fine. The caller gets a busy signal when calling.

Another aid (as others have mentioned) is to have a phone with caller ID - if you don't know who's calling, don't answer it. Unfortunately many of the pests use internet calling and frequently change the phony info shown in their caller IDs.

I turned on the call blocking feature for my landline just this week because some robocaller has gotten my number. I'm just the opposite of most of you. I give out my cell phone number to all public requests because I generally never answer my cell. My landline, on the other hand, is a non-published number that I never give out.

I've also started receiving a bunch of catalogs addressed to me as last name first name. If I could figure out who sold my name, I would call them and complain. I use CatalogChoice to request a stop to catalogs, but it annoys me that I now have to start over with another name variation.

I am harassed continually by bill collectors because my phone book listing is just my first initial and my common last name. So every possible deadbeat with the same initial and last name (apparently there are quite a few), who goes into collection, I become a target for their collection company efforts. Finally, I just started saying that "I'm sorry, she died." THAT seems to be the only thing that slows them down for a year or two.

The trouble with Caller ID is that you still have to go TO the phone to see who is calling.

We've had a little rest from the usual robo-calls over the past few weeks. I suspect they will resume now that the elections are over and as the holiday 'giving' season is upon us.

Our land line will be history once we've finished providing an alternate number to all the contacts who need it. The phone companies may not care, but the taxing bodies are going to miss the revenue.

I'm glad the elections are over so all those calls will stop. I don't answer unless I know who it is. We have a Panasonic phone that announces the caller. Unfortunaly it's a machine voice and gives some strange names. If lt's a 1 800 number it says One Zelo, Zelo. Huh?

When one of my DD's friend calls it announces her maiden name which was Anderson as Andresha. ??? It just recently (ess than 2 weeks ago) started using her married name which she has used for Years on her phone.

It does keep me from having to answer a lot of junk calls though.

We had a company showing up on our caller I.D. as "Out of Area" that called us 4 times yesterday morning starting at 6:45AM!!! I was so torqued off, especially because the Do Not Call Registry is a total joke.
