Tyson individually packaged chicken breasts....

Has anyone tried them? They were all they had at Sam's Club the other day. I sure don't care for them. The "easy open" pack was anything but (at least for me) and the chicken was all slimy and the juices spilled out all over. It was really kinda gross.

Just wondering if it is just me. lol.

we get Perdue's after two bad experiences w/ the sam's brand chicken breasts. the sam's is just full of tendons and there is something wrong w/ the texture, they were very tough. they were sooo bad last time we would not even feed them to the furgirls, we threw them out. we switched to Perdue's which are wrapped 2 breasts together. i like that since we (ok DH lol) don't have to individually separate into ziplocs. there is just 2 of us and often i don't even eat meat so the portioning works well for us. ~ liz

This isn't Sam's brand chicken, I didn't like that either...this is Tyson. They used to just sell the packs of the breasts all together, seemed way less gross then...it had that pad at the bottom of the package, this, the chicken is just sitting there in the juices. Grosses me out. lol.

Most of our poultry booths at the farmers' market sell the chicken tenders separately from the breast cutlets. I don't remove the tendons before cooking but I do cut off any tips of them that are sticking out of the strip. They don't taste any different to me than the rest of the breast meat. I like to make these for an easy summer entree: GRILLED ORANGE CHICKEN FINGERS 1 lb. chicken tenders 1 1/2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard 1 1/2 Tbs. frozen orange-juice concentrate, thawed 1 1/2 Tbs. honey 1 tsp. sesame oil 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper Salt to taste In a bowl, whisk all ingredients except chicken together until smooth. Add the chicken strips to the sauce and toss to combine. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes or up to 2 hours. Meanwhile, prepare grill or preheat the broiler. Lightly oil rack or coat with nonstick cooking spray. Remove the chicken strips from the marinade, discarding any extra marinade. Grill or broil for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until no longer pink in the center. Do not over cook.

You really don't need to cut the "yellow stuff" (probably bits of fat) or the "white stuff" (probably bits of tendon or skin) off. There's nothing wrong with it. Remember, if you eat whole roast or fried chicken, all of that stuff is in the meat. In the breast, under the long, thin piece on the inside that separates from the rest of the breast easily, there is a tendon that sticks out from one side. It's not poisonous or nasty, but it can be tough. You can grab it with your thumbnail against the counter and push the meat away from it with the back of your knife, by holding the knife against your thumbnail, and sliding it away from you, while pressing hard on the knife against the cutting board. But again, it won't hurt you or anything, so it might not be worth the bother. The white "skin" is just a membrane that often occurs between muscles. It is harmless, and in chicken it shouldn't be tough once it is cooked. A similar membrane can be tough on some cuts of beef, pork or lamb, and if you are not long cooking the meat, it helps with tenderness to remove it. Never put anything hot in your fridge or freezer. Cool things to room temp before doing so. The residual warmth from hot items can reduce the quality and shelf life of other items. If you simply must put something in the fridge before it is completely cool, rearrange your fridge contents so that the top most shelf is bare (or contains non perishables that you like to keep cold, like sodas) and place the warm item on that shelf, covered with a damp towel or plastic wrap in which you have poked holes. Heat rises, and this should keep it from affecting other foods. But the heat needs to be able to escape the item quickly, hence the cloth or holes.

I just cooked chicken breasts to take to our church to be made into pounds and pounds of chicken salad for our Christmas fundraiser. Here's the method I used...it worked perfectly. How To Cook Moist & Tender Chicken Breasts Every Time What You Need Ingredients 1 to 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, of similar size Salt and freshly ground black pepper 1 tablespoon olive oil, unsalted butter, or combination of both Equipment Heavy Mason jar or wide drinking glass Wide (10-inch) sauté pan with lid Tongs or spatula Instructions Flatten the chicken breasts: Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness with the bottom of a wide jar or glass. You can also (carefully!) use the handle of a heavy chef's knife. Season the chicken breasts: Lightly salt and pepper the chicken breasts. Prepare the pan: Heat the sauté pan over medium-high heat. When it is quite hot, add the olive oil (or butter, if using). Swirl the pan so it is lightly covered with the olive oil. Cook the chicken breasts for 1 minute without moving: Turn the heat to medium. Add the chicken breasts. Cook for just about 1 minute to help them get a little golden on one side (you are not actually searing or browning them). Flip the chicken breasts: Then flip each chicken breast over. Turn the heat down to low: Turn the heat to low. Cover the pan and cook on low for 10 minutes. Cover with a tight-fitting lid. Set a timer for 10 minutes, and walk away. Do not lift the lid; do not peek. Turn off the heat and let sit for an additional 10 minutes: After 10 minutes have elapsed, turn off the heat. (If you have an electric stove, remove the pan from the heat.) Reset the timer for 10 minutes and leave the chicken breasts in the pan. Again, do not lift the lid; do not peek. Remove lid and take temperature: After the 10 minutes are up, take the lid off, and your chicken is done. Make sure there is no pink in the middle of the chicken breasts. If you want to be absolutely sure it is cooked, you can use an instant-read thermometer to check (the chicken should be at least 165°F). Slice and eat. we dump them partially thawed into marinade or recipes so i haven't been too grossed out but i know exactly what you mean thou LOL. i find the pad icky too, i don't want to see that LOL and i guess that's why there even is one... ~ liz

Around here, any chicken (or poultry for that matter) goes right into the sink into a colander and is rinsed thoroughly so all that stuff goes down the drain followed by soapy water and bleach.

Never bought Tyson fresh chicken before. I usually stick with Jenny-O or a reputable store brand.

I don't like Tyson chicken and I don't like their precooked beef or pork packages. Hormel tastes much better. They are easy to cook if you need a meal in a hurry. Just 4 minutes to heat.

My daughter was a nutrition major (now it is her minor), but she always told me to NEVER buy Tyson chicken. The few times I have bought it, the meat is striated and it is never very tender.

I love chicken breasts wrapped individually, but we always buy them at the Omaha Steaks Store. Have never had a problem with it. And it's so nice--now that it's just the 2 of us--to be able to pull out just a couple of them. Or more, if we're having company.

DH refuses to buy/eat Tyson products. Knows people in meat business, and doesn't trust the company.

Yeah, you do have to be careful with how you handle the individually packaged breasts, more careful than you do with the flat trays that have the absorbent pads. I've purchased some of the individually packaged ones from Costco, can't recall which brand it was, probably just labeled "Kirkland," and I really like the convenience. I need to compare prices, tho, of those versus the "family pack" at the regular grocery store and see if it's less expensive to just use Ziplocs myself.

Liz - Do the Perdues come already frozen, individually wrapped? I buy the big package, divide into single breasts in baggies then freeze and am really tired of doing that. I found salmon ind. wrapped/frozen. So much easier.
