Update on Homeowners Insurance

Thank you again for the advice you all gave me in my original post.

I had the interview over the phone and we made a few changes in the policy. The replacement cost of my house went up, I reduced the amount of my sewer back up from $20,000 to $10,000. It is an unfinished basement with cement walls and floors so the only thing that really needs to be covered are my appliances - furnace, washer and dryer and freezer. I cleaned everything out after last major flood.

I also changed my deductible from $500 to $1000. The agent told me they don't even offer the $500 deductible anymore but mine was grandfather in.

The agent was really nice and answered all my questions about the types of things that can be claimed. I didn't know half of what she told me that was claimable.

My monthly premium went down by almost $30 a month which makes me very happy. She said it was too bad I didn't drive and have auto insurance, she said it would go down 25 percent.

I was surprised when I asked about the value of the contents. She said it was an automatic percentage of the replacement cost of my house and much more than the stuff I actually own or would have to replace.

I had answered the initial questions in the first call when they wanted to know the type of floors, walls, etc that I had, and how many bedrooms.
