All this Talk About Falling..

I went and did it,I got up early ,had ironing to get done,hubbys at the penn state game,So got my wash basket heading to ironing board down Iwent.on my left hip,hurt right one years ago still hurts,my upperback,neck,shoulder hurts.I couldnt believe it.

I fell about a week ago. I decided to give my computer room a good cleaning and cleaned and vacuumed. I set the vacuum out in the hall with the intent of doing the living room carpet next. But...I set down at the computer and got delayed...it then got dark and I turned off the computer and headed out of the room at a good pace and.....forgot about the vacuum. Long story short....the ER doctor told my husband to watch me for a good month and bring me back in if I started talking and not making sense (hit my head)....give him credit, he didn't ask, "How can I tell?" :o) So far, so good with that, though.....it was such a shock!

hope you two are feeling better.

For myself...I wonder why....okay i am 49 years old and have 48 years experience in walking but still manage to trip over my own to feet..lol

I agree, mwheel, I also hesitate to buy something that calls for a small amount. But the syrup recipe is worth trying. For example, I fix Cherries jubilee every couple of years, and I used Brandy and sugar cubes for the flambee. We don't use either in every day life, so they sit in the cupboard. I'd like to try the syrup and Bailey's Irish Cream over ice cream, but the Bailey bottle would join the brandy bottle on the shelf, along with some other "experiments". Perhaps I'll look at the "travel sizes" and see what they have there.

Found this and it sounds so close to the one I posted except it has mustard in it. Almost Marzetti's Brand Slaw Dressing: (which comes in a glass jar from Your Grocer's Refrigerator Case.) Source: ThatBobbyGirl 2 cups light mayonnaise 2/3 cup sugar 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard cabbage carrot celery salt Combine mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar and mustard in bowl and mix thoroughly until sugar is completely dissolved. Using a large and very sharp chef's knife, slice cabbage into shreds fine shreds. Thinly slice or shred carrot and combine with cabbage in bowl. Sprinkle lightly with celery salt and toss. While stirring, pour just enough dressing over the prepared vegetables to moisten them nicely. (After it sits a while, there will suddenly be more liquid in the bowl than you thought there was- it will come off the veggies. So don't overdo the dressing. You can always add more later if need be.) Cover and chill. Refrigerate unused portion of dressing for later use.

I ironed my grandmother sheets and all her clothes that needed ironing every Sat. Or Fri. afternoons if I were going some place Sat. I think I started ironing for her about the age of 10 or 11. She taught me how to iron. Now that I have a choice I do not iron any sheet..but, I still iron everything my husband and I wear.(except undees) My SIL thinks I am crazy to iron DH and my blue jeans, but I love to have a crisp crease in the front and back of our jeans.

(((alisande))) Here, I'll make it the third one? Maybe. I was driving home the other day, and I had a blowout! Not just a flat tire. We heard BANG! and I said, what was that? He said maybe we ran over a rock? And then the car started to try to swerve. I did keep control and then I heard it--a flat tire. As I pulled over, it was smoking! Smelled like burned rubber to me, and it practically welded the tire to the axle?! What's worse? I just got the car in July (used, it's 18 years old) and I hadn't checked the spare to make sure it fit and was in good shape :O The equipment to change the tire didn't really fit or work well :( The jack would only turn a half turn at a time. The tire iron was too long? It kept hitting the ground. What was cool though? Someone else had fixed a flat in the exact same spot, and accidentally left a tire iron-that fit my bolts. I had another shorter tire iron, but it too, did not fit. So it took three tire irons, a lot of turning for the jack, and holding my breath for the tire to work. Yep, the tire turned out ok. I had planned to buy new tires next month, but now, I will have new tires this weekend. Two more days instead of two more weeks... hurray! Back to normal then. Whew. Now, we don't need a third car incident. How's that for closing the loop? Well, I tried!

i'm so scared of falling like my mother did years ago (broke a vert in her back) it takes me forever to get down our stairs...was that way before becoming creaky knee'd and bad back...

if you're on any meds, all have the potential of causing problems, i swear...

I went through a falling time also, about 3 yrs ago. Maybe it has something to do with age, DH did it for a while also.

Sorry about the trips & falls, hope you both are feeling better soon, I do know your pain!

I knoow that pain too, and have made myself too dependent on a rolling walker ....this balance stuff (or should I unbalance stuff) just takes too long to go away.
Get better soon and pay attention to those feet!! Nanny

I fell two years ago, broke my humorous in 3 places and have a stiff shoulder now. I passed out, didn't expect that at all. Now when I look up, I know to be careful if I look down immediately. I also started to clear out unnecessary stuff, things sitting on the floor (decor). I make sure the area around the picture windows where I have to pull blinds is clear, no tripping. I lifted a 50 lb bag of bird seed two months about ago and injured rotater cuff on my other shoulder. Now I have to sore shoulders. Never thought about the lifting.

take care of yourself and if it continues to hurt a lot you might want to check with a Dr to make sure you didn't break something.

The girl who did my head CAT scan said that was a good reason not to vacuum lol

I have pretty good balance, haven't fallen in years. But both my knees have arthritis so it really hurts to walk up and down stairs. I go slow and hold the rail.
